Jisc R&D progress update autumn 2018

    No full text
Jisc undertakes research and development projects with the aim of producing new services that Jisc members can use to improve education, research and the student experience. All Jisc research and development work is done in close collaboration with Jisc members using our co-design approach. Currently all our research and development work is steered by our co-design visions, but these will soon be superseded by a new approach called co-design labs. Co-design labs aims to make our R&D work more responsive to the needs of Jisc members and the opportunities offered by emerging technology. We will do this by convening a diverse group of sector experts to focus on how emerging technologies associated with the fourth industrial revolution such as artificial intelligence, internet of things and 5G will change education and research. This group will monitor trends and identify areas that need to be explored in more depth. We will pull together a group of experts from the sector to work on these areas for a couple of months to identify new ideas that could be developed by Jisc, by institutions or by other stakeholders. We believe this will lead to a regular flow of new insight, leadership and services created by the sector for the sector. We will discuss this approach in more detail on the learnings webinar

Next generation [digital] learning environments: present and future

    No full text
Co-design 2016 saw the launch of the Next Generation Digital Learning Environments challenge asking: » What would an environment do for sta and students? » What kind of learning experiences would an environment need to support? » What learning and teaching practices aren’t currently supported in environments? The changing nature of student and sta behaviours was something highlighted by many commentators; technology-led pedagogies, and emphasis on system features was another; and of course many people in the sector were commenting on the rise of analytics and the role that data may play in future systems. This retrospective of Jisc’s co-design work is therefore focused on technology and practice now, and what is emerging. It aims to inform the sector and provide a base from which new developments may emerge
