Cilj projekta TIMREX je osnovati diplomski studij koji rezultira dvostrukom diplomom s oznakom EIT RawMaterials kvalitete. Studij iz područja istraživanja mineralnih sirovina se temelji na postojećim relevantnim diplomskim programa koje izvode University of Miskolc (UM), University of Zagreb – Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering (UNIZG-RGNF), Luleå University of Technology (LTU) i Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST)
Risk assessment and management of hydrocarbon leakage accidents in the environment : master's thesis
Rizik predstavlja razinu vjerojatnosti pojave nekog neželjenog događaja. Pojava neželjenog događaja u industriji rezultira štetom po zdravlje, okoliš i imovinu te negativno utječe na reputaciju kompanije. Kao najznačajniji rizik za okoliš, koji se povezuje s aktivnostima koje s provode u naftnoj industriji, pojavljuje se primarni rizik od istjecanja fluida u okoliš. Učestalost naftnih izljeva i ukupna količina izlivene nafte značajno su smanjeni u posljednjih 30 godina, iako je došlo do povećanja tankerskog i cjevovodnog transporta nafte i naftnih derivata. Još uvijek ne postoji univerzalno prihvaćena metodologija za procjenu rizika za okoliš u naftnoj industriji. Zbog jednostavnosti primjene, preporuča se primjena postupka opisanog u ARPEL-ovom dokumentu, u kojem je predstavljen okvir za provođenje procjene rizika od izljeva nafte. Okvir prati šest koraka, a to su redom: planiranje procjene rizika, analiza opasnosti, analiza scenarija vjerojatnosti izljeva, analiza posljedica te karakterizacija i upravljanje rizikom.Risk represents the level of probability of the occurrence of an unwanted event. The occurrence of an unwanted event in industry results in damage to health, the environment and property, and negatively affects the company's reputation. The main risk for the environment associated with the oil industry is considered to be the primary risk of fluids spill into the environment. The frequency of oil spills and the total amount of oil spilled have decreased significantly over the past 30 years, although the transportation of oil and petroleum products by tankers and pipelines has increased. To date, there is still no generally accepted methodology for environmental risk assessment in the oil industry. Due to the simplicity of application, it is recommended to use the procedure described in the ARPEL document, which provides a framework for conducting an oil spill risk assessment. The framework includes six steps, namely: risk assessment planning, hazard analysis, oil spill likelihood scenario analysis, consequence analysis, and risk characterization and management

Nuklearna energija izrazito je efikasan izvor energije korišten u svijetu. Sve veća potražnja za energijom vodi ka izgradnji sve više nuklearnih postrojenja, no velika opasnost koju iskorištavanje takve energije nosi dovodi do sve više razmatranja o njenom korištenju. Nadalje, razne vrste radioaktivnog otpada i istrošenog nuklearnog goriva, kao nusprodukt proizvodnje nuklearne energije, predstavljaju veliki problem kada je u pitanju njihovo zbrinjavanje. U svrhu što sigurnijeg i boljeg načina skladištenja i odlaganja tih nusprodukata, proučavaju se razni načini kojima bi se isti mogli zbrinuti. Kada su u pitanju visoko radioaktivni otpad i istrošeno nuklearno gorivo, skladištenje u duboke bušotine, tj. duboke geološke strukture, smatra se jednim od mogućih rješenja problema proizvodnje nusprodukata nuklearne energije.Nuclear energy is an extremely efficient source of energy used in the world. The ever-increasing demand for energy leads to the construction of more and more nuclear facilities, but great danger that the exploitation of such energy carries leads to more consideration of its use. Furthermore, various types of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel, as a by-product of nuclear energy production, represent a major problem when it comes to their disposal. For the purpose of a safer and better way of storing and disposing of these by-products, various ways of their disposal are being studied. When it comes to highly radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel, storage in deep boreholes, i.e. deep geological structures, is considered one of the possible solutions to the problem of nuclear energy by-products production
Modifications and advancement in the sweetening process of natural gas : master's thesis
Prirodni plin se smatra tranzicijskim energentom. Povećanjem njegove potražnje povećavaju se količine za obradu, a sastav plina koji je potrebno obraditi postaje sve složeniji. O složenosti sastava prirodnog plina (složena mješavina organskih i anorganskih komponenti) ovisi i broj procesa koje je potrebno primijeniti pri obradi kako bi plin bio spreman za transport, prodaju i korištenje. U radu je prikazan pregled procesa obrade prirodnog plina s naglaskom na procese izdvajanja kiselih plinova. Rastuća potreba za smanjenjem emisija i smanjenjem onečišćenja nameće izazove plinskoj industriji u pronalasku učinkovitijih i ekološki prihvatljivijih procesa. U radu je opisan odgovor industrije na povećane ekološke standarde u smislu unapređenja i poboljšanja nekih procesa za izdvajanje kiselih plinova.Natural gas is considered a transitional energy source. Higher natural gas demand causes the increase in the quantity and complexity of composition of natural gas that needs to be processed. The number of processes that need to be applied during natural gas treatment in order to transport, sell and use natural gas, highly depends on the complexity of the composition of natural gas (a complex mixture of organic and inorganic components). This thesis presents an overview of natural gas processing with an emphasis on gas sweetening methods. The growing need to reduce emissions and pollution poses challenges to the gas industry in finding more efficient and environmentally friendly solutions for processing of natural gas. Also, the thesis describes the industry’s response to increased environmental standards in terms of improving some of the natural gas sweetening methods
Utjecaj zvučnih valova na protočna svojstva stijena i fluida : završni rad
Zvučni i seizmički valovi u naftnoj industriji se koriste za istraživanje i procjenu prilikom seizmičkih i karotažnih geofizičkih mjerenja, za određivanje stratigrafske slike ležišta. Također se zvučni valovi koriste u mnogim drugim situacijama u industriji kada je potrebno ukloniti ili detektirati različita oštećenja, te kao posredna metoda detektiranja promjena u procesu. U ovom završnom radu istražena je literatura u kojoj su se autori bavili proučavanjem utjecaja zvučnih valova na geološka i fizikalna svojstva stijena, ali i interakcijom stijena i fluida, tj. načinom na koji valovi mogu mobilizirati pojedinu fazu, poput zaostale nafte, i povećati proizvodnju
Landslide and erosion inventory mapping based on LiDAR data: A case study from Istria (Croatia)
The Istrian Peninsula, in the western part of Croatia, belongs to an undeformed part of the Adriatic Plate. The central part of Istria is the area of the Eocene flysch basin, i.e. “Gray Istria“, which is prone to weathering and active geomorphological processes. The siliciclastic rocks of the basin are homogeneous hemipelagic marls (Globigerina marls with a maximal thickness of 150 m) overlain by gravity-flow deposits or flysch-type rocks. The high erodibility of the Istrian marls led to the formation of steep barren slopes and badlands exceptionally susceptible to slope movements. This research presents the application of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data for the landslide and erosion inventory mapping at a large scale. Airborne laser scanning (ALS) was taken in March 2020 for the pilot area in the City of Buzet. Based on the characteristics of the acquired LiDAR Point Cloud, a bare-earth digital elevation model (DEM) with 30 cm resolution was created. Different topographic derivative datasets such as slope, hillshade, contour lines, roughness, curvature, flow accumulation and stream power index maps were created to interpret the LiDAR data. Visual identification and mapping of landform features were done on the study area (20 km2) at a large scale (1:500) to produce detailed landslide and erosion maps for implementation in the spatial planning system. After preliminary visual interpretation of LiDAR DTM and field verifications, it was concluded that three types of landforms could be mapped, i.e. badlands, unstable slopes and landslides. Badlands were first identified on the digital orthophoto maps 1:5.000 as areas with sparse or no vegetation, and then the boundary of the entire affected slope was mapped in detail on the LiDAR DTM morphometric derivatives. Additional field checking showed that badland boundaries based on digital orthophoto images and LiDAR DTM have significant deviations. Badlands dominantly appears in the form of plane forms on steep slopes and less often as linear forms such as erosion gullies or torrent beds. Unstable slopes were categorised as areas with dense sliding where the exact landslide boundaries could not be mapped due to the coalescence of landslides or poor contrast between affected and unaffected areas due to the intense erosion. Landslide identification on the LIDAR DTM morphometric derivatives is based on recognising landslide features (e.g., concave main scarps, hummocky landslide bodies and convex landslide toes). A digital orthophoto map from 2020 was used during landslide identification to check the morphological forms along roads and buildings, such as artificial fills and cuts, which can have a similar appearance to landslides on DTM derivatives. Sliding is most often along contacts between weathered and fresh flysch-type rock, especially at places with concentrated surface runoff (e.g., near roads), which typically cause small and shallow landslides. The final result of the visual interpretation of LiDAR DTM derivatives is multi-hazard inventory map which can be implemented in the spatial planning system of the city of Buzet
Mineralogy, geochemistry, micromorphology and WRB classification of a soil-sedimentary sequence on limestone in Monte Coronichi (Istria, Croatia)
The aim of this work was to analyze a soil- sedimentary sequence in a vineyard on the Istrian peninsula in order to relate its properties to climatic conditions and to classify it according to WRB. Regional climate is moderately warm with hot summers (Csa). The profile consists of recent Terra rossa overlying two red palaeosols on limestone of Lower Eocene age. The designations and depths (in cm) of the horizons are: Ap (0-30), Ap/Bt1 (30-70), Bt1 (70-110), Bt2 (110-170), 2Btb1 (170-200), 2Btb2 (200-230), 3Btb3 (230-260), 3Btb4 (260-300), R (>300). Its (micro)morphology (color, structure, clay coatings, Fe/Mn nodules) indicates long and intense weathering and pedogenesis (interrupted by erosion/sedimentation cycles). Accordingly, pHKCl values are lower than 4.2. The soil is (heavy) clay, with clay content increasing with depth. However, this increase is interrupted in 2Btb1 and 3Btb3 horizons, which contain less clay than the horizons immediately above. Nevertheless, both 2Btb1 and 3Btb3 have abundant illuvial clay. Along the profile, CEC increases with increasing clay content, and its values indicate low-activity clays. The main soil minerals are kaolinites and illitic material, with significant amounts of quartz and hematite. Distribution of the three most abundant oxides reflects weathering intensity: SiO2 decreases with depth, while Al2O3 and Fe2O3 increase. The whole sequence is named Rhodic Lixisol (Clayic, Cutanic, Hypereutric, Profondic). Considering that Lixisols are soils of seasonally dry (sub)tropical regions, and in agreement with the results presented here, one can conclude that the studied profile developed in a climate different from the present one. Infrared-radio relation in the local Universe
The Square Kilometer Array (SKA) is expected to detect high-redshift galaxies with star formation rates (SFRs) up to two orders of magnitude lower than surveys and will thus boost the ability of radio astronomy to study extragalactic sources. The tight infrared-radio correlation offers the possibility of using radio emission as a dust-unobscured star formation diagnostic. However, the physics governing the link between radio emission and star formation is poorly understood, and recent studies have pointed to differences in the exact calibration required when radio is to be used as a star formation tracer.
We improve the calibration of the relation of the local radio luminosity–SFR and to test whether there are nonlinearities in it.
We used a sample of Astrophysical Terahertz Large Area Survey (H-ATLAS) sources and investigated their radio luminosity, which was derived using the NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS) and Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-cm (FIRST) maps. We stacked the bins of infrared luminosity and SFR and accounted for bins with no detections in the stacked images using survival analysis fitting. This approach was tested using Monte Carlo simulations.
After removing sources from the sample that have excess radio emission, which is indicative of nuclear radio activity, we found no deviations from linearity of the mean relations between radio luminosity and either SFR or infrared luminosity.
We analyzed the link between radio emission and SFR or infrared luminosity using a local sample of star-forming galaxies without evidence of nuclear radio activity and found no deviations from linearity, although our data are also consistent with the small nonlinearity reported by some recent analyses. The normalizations of these relations are intermediate between those reported by earlier works
Influence of wellbore damage on the efficiency of brine water injection rate into the reservoir : master's thesis
U diplomskom radu obrađen je utjecaj stupnja oštećenja pribušotinske zone na učinkovitost utiskivanja slojne vode u ležište. U tu svrhu teoretski je opisano oštećenje pribušotinske zone (skin faktor), kao i uzrok njegova nastanka i način uklanjanja. Opisan je način utiskivanja otpadne slojne vode u utisnu bušotinu te ono što je cilj rada, proračun za određivanje količine utiskivanja slojne vode u jedinici vremena s obzirom na različite veličine oštećenja i ograničenja ušća bušotine.This master thesis deals with influence of wellbore damage on the efficiency of brine water injection rate into the reservoir. For this purpose, damage to the perforated zone (skin factor) is theoretically described, as well as the cause of its occurrence and the method of removal. The method of injection of brine wastewater into the injection well is described, and the calculation for determining the amount of injection of brine water per unit time with respect to different sizes of damage and limitations of the wellhead has been given
