Solving the chaos model-data paradox in the cryptocurrency market
In this paper we test for nonlinearity and chaos in some cryptocurrencies returns and volatility. Financial markets are characterized by the so-called chaos model-data paradox , that is, it is relatively easy to design theoretical dynamic financial models that behave chaotically, but it is hard to find robust evidence of this kind of chaotic behaviour in real dataset. In fact, this paradox has been taken as an evidence that support the Efficient Mar- ket Hypothesis (EMH). In this paper we apply new robust computational methods based on statistical procedures to reconstruct the underlying attractor and to estimate the Lya- punov exponents based on the Jacobian neural nets. We have tested nonlinearity and chaos in some digital cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple and Litecoin). The results show strong evidence against EMH supporting the hypothesis that those time series come from an underlying unknown generating process that behave nonlinear and chaotically. This fact points out that a potential explication to the chaos model-data paradox lies in the meth- ods traditionally used in the literature which are not robust and do not have the capability to find chaos in financial time-series data
Pain intensity and sensory perception of Tender Points in female patients with fibromyalgia: A pilot study
Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a condition that courses with chronic pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, impaired quality of life and daily function. Due to the lack of blood, imaging or histological confirmatory tests, the diagnosis of FMS is based on the presence of widespread pain and presence of tender points (TPs). Our aim was to assess the pain pressure thresholds (PPTs) and subjective pain perception (SPP) of all 18 TPs while applying a normalized pressure in female patients with fibromyalgia. An exploratory descriptive pilot study was conducted in 30 female patients with FMS. Sociodemographic data (e.g., age, height, weight, and body mass index), clinical characteristics (e.g., years with diagnosis and severity of FMS), PPTs (assessed with an algometer), and SPP (assessed with a visual analogue scale) of all 18 TPs were collected. A comparative analysis side-to-side (same TP, left and right sides) and between TPs was conducted. No side-to-side differences were found (p < 0.05). Significant differences between all 18 TPs were found for PPTs (p < 0.0001), and SPP (p < 0.005) scores were found. The most mechanosensitive points were located in the second costochondral junction, the occiput, the trochanteric prominence; the most painful while applying a normalized pressure considering the TP and side were those located in the gluteus, trochanteric prominence, and supraspinatus. The current study describes PPTs and SPP, as assessed with algometry and visual analogue scale, respectively, of all 18 TPs in female patients with FMS. TPs exhibited significant PPTs and SPP differences between TP locations with no side-to-side differences
The Verbal Component of Mathematical Problem Solving in Bilingual Contexts by Early Elementary Schoolers
The main aim of the present study is to analyze the differences that may exist when students
address the resolution of verbal problems in their mother tongue and in the language of instruction
when these are different. We understand that knowing the type of verbal problems and
their semantic structure can be helpful for students’ contextual and mathematical understanding
and will allow teachers to improve instruction during the first years of elementary education in
bilingual schools specialized in the area of second language acquisition as well as in CLIL (Content
and Language Integrated Learning). This study shows how children, as they are acquiring a greater
command of the second language, show similar effectiveness to those students who work on mathematics
in their mother tongue. This transversal study was conducted on 169 bilinguals studying in
international schools. The sample was made up of 80 1st grade students (39 girls, mean age of 7.1
years and 41 boys, mean age of 7.3 years); and 89 2nd grade students (38 girls, mean age 8.2 years,
and 51 boys, mean age 8.2 years). The exploratory analyses let us show how 1st grade students
demonstrate lower effectiveness in solving problems when they do it in a second language, compared
to 2nd grade students whose effectiveness is higher in carrying them out. It is also relevant
that in first graders, the largest number of errors are found in the simplest tasks as students’ effectiveness
is less when they are taught in a second language, since it takes them longer to create effective
resolution models. This fact will allow us to reconsider appropriate strategies and interventions
when teaching mathematics in bilingual contexts
Esfuerzos de alta intensidad durante la competición en el fútbol profesional
El objetivo de este trabajo fue cuantificar el número y duración de los esfuerzos de muy alta intensidad y esprint (EMAVS) y el intervalo de recuperación entre ellos en 36 futbolistas profesionales de primera y de segunda división. Los jugadores fueron monitorizados a través de dispositivos GPS durante dos partidos oficiales. La duración promedio de los EMAVS fue de 2,58±0,44 segundos con un intervalo medio entre los mismos de 107,07±67,00 sg. La FC media durante los EMAVS se situó en 164,92±12,39 p.p.m., alcanzando el 85% de la FC máxima. No se encontraron diferencias significativas entre la duración de los EMAVS, los intervalos entre ellos y la FC alcanzada (p≤ 0,05 en todos los casos), con gran variabilidad individual. La utilización de la duración de los EMAVS, los tiempos de recuperación y la FC alcanzada durante los mismos, serían de gran utilidad para diseñar los entrenamientos interválicos en el fútbol

Durante la Edad Media, los dioses de la naturaleza que habían animado el paganismo abandonaron su existencia inmortal sobre la tierra. Sin embargo, no desaparecieron por completo: algunos pervivieron aletargados, convertidos en símbolos: eran planetas, regían los días de la semana y controlaban los metales, dotándolos de sus cualidades morales o mágicas. Modelos de feminidad de los años cuarenta: Ingenuas y pitucas en el intercambio cinematográfico Argentina-España
En la década de 1940, en un periodo de aislamiento internacional, Argentina y España coincidieron en intercambiarse un número importante de comedias sentimentales. En ellas podía observarse dos modelos de feminidad: la ingenua y la pituca. Ambos estereotipos eran adaptaciones hispanas de modelos narrativos hollywoodienses. El intercambio se hacía en virtud de la política autárquica española que era, a la vez, un control de la balanza de pagos y, en principio, una garantía del contenido de las películas, pues lo importado y lo exportado provenía de países afines por cultura, tradición o ideología
La pericia caligráfica y la influencia de las distintas tipologías de firmas existentes en su cotejo
La presente investigación consta de un análisis de los distintos elementos influyentes en la pericia caligráfica y trata de determinar cuáles son las variables más apropiadas para realizar un cotejo de firmas que cumpla con todas las garantías y que hagan que el riesgo de error sea inferior. En relación con este asunto, se analiza, en concreto, cómo influye la velocidad en la ejecución de la firma, la riqueza gráfica que posee y la homología entre la firma dubitada e indubitadas en el resultado del análisis realizado por el experto. Asimismo, esta investigación también trata de dilucidar cómo influyen las distintas tipologías de firmas en el análisis de firmas, estableciendo qué porcentaje de errores y aciertos se cometen en cada una de ellas.
Para ello, se realizará un recorrido a través de cuestiones como el delito de falsedad documental, la historia de la escritura, quiénes son los mayores referentes de esta disciplina, el cotejo de firmas en documentos fotocopiados, las distintas tipologías de firmas existentes en base al método de falsificación, las variables que son recomendables que se cumplan en el cotejo de firmas o escrituras, la normativa existente en esta disciplina, la valoración jurídica de la prueba pericial caligráfica, etc., desgranando y desarrollando cada una de ellas.
La metodología aplicada para llegar al objetivo previsto será cuantitativa. Se utilizará en la parte experimental, a través de la cuantificación de respuestas de los cuestionarios realizados. Por otro lado, también se realizará un análisis cuantitativo desde una perspectiva multivariante, con la finalidad de averiguar cuáles son las características que deben poseer preferentemente las firmas objeto de estudio. Por último, se lleva a cabo un análisis del contenido de los resultados mediante su interpretación y mediante un registro observacional a través de especialistas (grupo de discusión).
El objetivo principal de la investigación consiste en establecerse como un inicio para conseguir que la pericia caligráfica tenga un protocolo estandarizado que recoja todos los requisitos y variables estudiados y que se utilice de forma unificada por los profesionales
Therapeutic Potential of EWSR1–FLI1 Inactivation by CRISPR/Cas9 in Ewing Sarcoma
Ewing sarcoma is an aggressive bone cancer affecting children and young adults. The main molecular hallmark of Ewing sarcoma are chromosomal translocations that produce chimeric oncogenic transcription factors, the most frequent of which is the aberrant transcription factor EWSR1–FLI1. Because this is the principal oncogenic driver of Ewing sarcoma, its inactivation should be the best therapeutic strategy to block tumor growth. In this study, we genetically inactivated EWSR1–FLI1 using CRISPR-Cas9 technology in order to cause permanent gene inactivation. We found that gene editing at the exon 9 of FLI1 was able to block cell proliferation drastically and induce senescence massively in the well-studied Ewing sarcoma cell line A673. In comparison with an extensively used cellular model of EWSR1–FLI1 knockdown (A673/TR/shEF), genetic inactivation was more effective, particularly in its capability to block cell proliferation. In summary, genetic inactivation of EWSR1–FLI1 in A673 Ewing sarcoma cells blocks cell proliferation and induces a senescence phenotype that could be exploited therapeutically. Effects of Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation on Countermovement Jump and Squat Performance Speed in Male Soccer Players: A Pilot Randomized Clinical Trial
Abstract: It has been suggested that Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (PENS) can increase
muscle strength. No previous study has investigated changes in performance in semiprofessional
soccer players. This study compares the effects of adding two sessions of PENS to a training
program versus the single training program over sport performance attributes (e.g., jump height
and squat speed) in healthy soccer players. A cluster-randomized controlled trial was conducted on
twenty-three semiprofessional soccer players who were randomized into an experimental (PENS
+ training program) or control (single training program) group. The training program consisted
of endurance and strength exercises separated by 15-min recovery period, three times/week. The
experimental group received two single sessions of PENS one-week apart. Flight time and vertical
jump height during the countermovement jump and squat performance speed were assessed before
and after each session, and 30 days after the last session. Male soccer players receiving the PENS
intervention before the training session experienced greater increases in the flight time, and therefore,
in vertical jump height, after both sessions, but not one month after than those who did not receive
the PENS intervention (F = 4.289, p = 0.003, η 2 p: 0.170). Similarly, soccer players receiving the PENS
intervention experienced a greater increase in the squat performance speed after the second session,
but not after the first session or one month after (F = 7.947, p < 0.001, η 2 p: 0.275). Adding two
sessions of ultrasound-guided PENS before a training strength program improves countermovement
jump and squat performance speed in soccer players
