    In the 17th century, the hill of Posillipo was the site of Villa Muscettola, a rare example of a farmhouse-museum, constructed between the 1630s and 1650s by Giovan Battista, a Neapolitan magistrate, with the intent of housing his extensive collection of ancient and modern statuary. Conceived as an open-air exhibition space, the residence was later bequeathed to his brother, Francesco Antonio. Drawing upon a wide array of archival sources, the essay reconstructs the villa’s history and architectural features, while emphasizing the pivotal role played by magistrates in the development of suburban villas within the Neapolitan landscape. The villa’s decline during the 18th century and its disappearance from the urban fabric—particularly following the proliferation of multi-storey buildings from the 1960s onward—underscore the importance of recovering its historical memory.Nel Seicento, la collina di Posillipo ospitò la villa Muscettola, un raro esempio di masseria-museo costruita tra gli anni trenta e gli anni cinquanta da Giovan Battista, togato napoletano, per accogliere la sua ricca collezione di statue antiche e moderne. La residenza, lasciata in eredità al fratello Francesco Antonio, fu concepita, infatti, come uno spazio espositivo all’aperto. Attraverso l’esplorazione di molte nuove fonti di archivio (dall’ASNa e dall’ASBN), il saggio ne ricostruisce la storia, la sua architettura sottolineando il ruolo dei togati nell’insediamento di nuove ville nel paesaggio extraurbano.     Systematic Review and Pooled Analysis of Functional and Sexual Outcomes of Minimally Invasive Surgical Treatments for Benign Prostatic Obstruction

    Background and objective: Minimally invasive surgical treatments (MISTs) for benign prostatic obstruction have been developed with the aim of providing superior symptom relief in comparison to pharmacological treatment, while minimizing the impact on sexual function. The aim of our study was to assess key MIST outcomes and to propose a definition of procedural success. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted in February 2025 in the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases. The protocol, which follows the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines and PICOS (Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcomes, Study design) criteria, was registered on PROSPERO as CRD42024543361. The review focused on randomized controlled trials and prospective studies evaluating surgical and functional outcomes of MISTs (Rezūm, UroLift, temporary implantable nitinol device [iTind], transperineal laser ablation [TPLA], Optilume) for BPO. We assessed the risk of bias and graded the certainty of evidence from the articles included. Pooled analyses were performed to compare perioperative and functional outcomes between study groups. Key findings and limitations: The 24 studies included in the review found that most MISTs were effective, showing improvements at 12 mo of ≥50% in the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and maximum flow rate (Qmax), and of ≥1 point for at quality of life (QoL) questionnaire. Anejaculation rates were 5% with TPLA, 3% with Rezūm, 1% with iTIND, and 0% with UroLift and Optilume. Complication and retreatment rates were low, although the follow-up duration was inconsistently reported and mainly limited to 24 mo. On the basis of these results, we propose a definition of procedural success that comprises achievement of all the following outcomes: IPSS reduction of ≥50%, Qmax improvement of ≥50%, QoL improvement of ≥50% (or ≥1 point), the absence of intraoperative complications and Clavien-Dindo grade ≥III postoperative complications, and preservation of erectile function and of antegrade ejaculation. Conclusions and clinical implications: MISTs represent a promising tool for benign prostatic obstruction management and provide effective symptom relief while preserving sexual function

    AI methods for enhancing and recognizing archaeological features in heterogeneous geophysical datasets

    In this study a methodological framework for enhancing the detection and interpretation of archaeological features through near-surface geophysical surveys, in particular Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and magnetic gradiometry (MAG) is presented. Consequently a combined approach based on spatial analysis techniques and Artificial Intelligence, specifically Self-Organizing Maps (SOM), is devised to support automatic feature enhancement and recognition. This method has been experienced using GPR and gradiometric surveys, performed in a use case inside the archaeological area of Grumentum (Southern Italy). The results highlight the effectiveness of this approach in improving the readability of complex and heterogeneous geophysical datasets and increase the reliability of archaeological interpretations and in identifying subsurface remains and facilitating their interpretation. It is expected that the approach herein proposed can be promptly generalized and applied to other application fields

    Climate Change Perception and Sustainable Behaviors: A Cross-Sectional Study in Southern Italy

    Background: This study aimed to evaluate risk perception about climate change and the sustainable behaviors adopted by adults. Methods: An anonymous questionnaire was administered between February and April 2024 among parents of adolescents in southern Italy. Results: A total of 765 parents agreed to participate in the survey, and the average respondents’ age was 47.3 years (28–78). Overall, 67.6% of respondents were extremely concerned that heat waves will negatively affect future generations. This concern was higher among respondents aged 41–50 years and >50 years, males, those who did not need additional information about climate change, and those who had received information about climate change. Regarding climate change concerns, 25.9% and 52.1% of participants were very or extremely concerned about climate change, respectively. Males, those who had one child, respondents aged 41–50 years and >50 years, and those who did not need additional information about climate change were significantly more likely to have concerns about climate change. Moreover, 34.5% of respondents engaged in sustainable behaviors. Finally, those who believed that climate change will negatively affect future generations and those who were extremely concerned that heat waves will negatively affect future generations were significantly more likely to engage in behaviors that mitigate the impact of climate change than those who were not concerned. Conclusions: These findings highlight the need to plan and design interventions on this topic

    Temperature control during pars plana vitrectomy

    Purpose To evaluate the impact of temperature-controlled pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) on structural and functional outcomes in a rabbit eye model in vivo. Methods Ten healthy New Zealand White rabbits underwent temperature-controlled PPV in the right eye (group A), using a device specifically designed to heat the infusion fluid/air and integrated into the vitrectomy machine, and conventional PPV in the left eye (group B). Both eyes received ophthalmic examination and electroretinography (ERG) before and 1 week postoperatively. After 1-week ERG, rabbits were enucleated and then sacrificed. Histological and immunohistochemical examinations were performed on enucleated eyes and expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and vimentin investigated. Results Postoperatively, only group B showed significantly decreased amplitude and increased latency of a-wave at 3 cds/m(2) (p = 0.001 and 0.005, respectively). Significant increase of b-wave latency at 0.01 cds/m(2) was detected in both groups (p = 0.019 and 0.023, respectively). Postoperatively, amplitude of oscillatory potentials (OPs) increased significantly in group A (p = 0.023) and decreased in group B. In both groups, OPs latency significantly increased at 1-week test (P < 0.05). A greater number of eyes without structural retinal alterations was detected in group A compared to group B (6 vs 5, respectively). GFAP expression was higher in group B than group A, even if the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion Temperature-controlled PPV resulted in more favorable functional and structural outcomes in rabbit eyes compared with conventional PPV, supporting the potential beneficial role of the intraoperative management of intraocular temperature in vitreoretinal surgery
