Transitions of Power and Consequential Measures: The U.S.’ Restrictions of Chinese Diplomats During the Trade Wars of 2018-2020 and the First 100 Days of the Second Term of the Trump Administration

    No full text
This work aims to study the restrictive measures imposed to Chinese diplomats in American soil under the eyes of Power Transition Study, and it has as its temporal limits the period between the beginning of the Trump Administration’s Trade Wars in 2018-2020, and the first 100 days of his second term in 2025, with these periods being analyzed under a comparative framework. Ergo, the specific objectives: (a) To present A.F.K. Organski’s Power Transition Theory and to frame the current relationship between the US and China in its parameters; (b) To present the measures in question and to organize them into a descriptive timeline; and (c) To point out how these measures qualify as an attempt by the USA to inhibit Chinese industrialization and to stop its overtaking process

Di una bambola scomparsa, di un cofanetto e di alcuni elementi in osso e avorio dal Museo Provinciale Campano di Capua

In two showcases located on the first and second floors of the Museo Provinciale Campano, bone and ivory objects are exhibited, some characterized by unusual shapes. For the majority, information about their discovery context is missing, but comparisons can help determine their original function. This is the case of three fragments, likely part of funerary bed elements, which feature iconographic motifs such as a waterbird’s head, particularly popular during the late Republican era. For other objects, the circumstances of their acquisition by the museum can be traced, such as a box decorated with bone, ivory, and metal elements, reflecting 19th-century antiquarian tastes. A remarkable story concerns an ivory doll that disappeared in 2010. It was discovered in 1879 in a tomb at Minturnae, along with a defixio on a rectangular lead tablet. This intriguing context enhances the fascination of this object, buried next to a young or very young deceased woman.

Global Andrology Forum Clinical Guidelines on Antioxidant Use in the Treatment of Male Infertility

    No full text
Purpose: Antioxidant (AOX) therapy has long been investigated for the management of male infertility. It has potential benefits, but persistent controversy affects its broad acceptance and clinical utility. This study aimed to develop standardized, evidence-based guidelines for AOX use by synthesizing the best available evidence and achieving global expert consensus. Materials and methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted by senior experts of the Global Andrology Forum (GAF). Additionally, data on the real-life use of oxidative stress (OS) testing and AOX use obtained from the largest global survey of practicing physicians conducted by GAF, which served as a reference point for this study. In phase one, 151 international specialists (>5 years' experience) participated in a modified Delphi process to evaluate AOX therapy in male infertility. Experts reviewed draft statements and rated agreement on a 10-point Likert scale. Statements achieving >80% consensus (with score >7/10) were accepted. The original eight statements were expanded to 19 and finalized into 18. In phase two, 84 senior physicians (>10 years' experience) graded the Delphi-approved statements using the GRADE approach. Results: Four out of the 18 statements failed to reach consensus and were excluded. Of the final 14 statements, seven (50%) were graded as "Strong" and seven (50%) as "Weak." Current evidence indicates that AOX therapy can reduce OS, improve sperm quality, and potentially enhance reproductive outcomes. However, benefits vary by agent, regimen, and patient population. The guidelines emphasize the need to document OS and to consider underlying factors before initiating AOX therapy, and caution against indiscriminate or prolonged use. Conclusions: Developed through a dual-validation process and endorsed by a globally diverse expert panel, these GAF guidelines represent the first standardized, evidence-based guidelines for AOX use in male infertility. By addressing heterogeneity in research and practice, they provide clinicians with practical, safe, and patient-centered recommendations for rational AOX therapy worldwide

Androgen receptor in melanoma progression: the role of TRPM8 and its intersection with androgen signaling

    No full text
    1. INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Background Melanoma is one of the most aggressive skin cancer, because of its metastatic potential and drug-resistance. Recent data from our laboratory have shown that the androgen receptor (AR) promotes the migratory phenotype and immune-escape in melanoma-derived cells. On the other, the transient receptor potential melastatin 8 (TRPM8) channel, a calcium-permeable and non-selective cation channel, has been identified as an androgen-responsive protein, capable of interacting with AR and influencing the calcium-dependent signaling pathway in prostate cancer and melanoma-derived cells. This study aims at investigating the intersection between TRPM8 and the AR-mediated signaling in melanoma progression. Methods Data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA-SKCM) showed that both AR and TRPM8 are upregulated in metastatic melanoma, as compared with the primary and normal counterparts. Western blot analysis confirmed these findings. Studies with new TRPM8 pharmacological modulators have shown that TRPM8 blockade reduces androgen-induced migration in both metastatic and primary melanoma cells. TRPM8 blockade also prevents the androgen-induced cytoskeletal changes and ruffle’s formation, as shown by immunofluorescence analysis. Co-immunoprecipitation and co-localization approaches have shown that hormone stimulation rapidly promotes the assembly of AR/TRPM8 complex. Blockade of TRPM8 perturbs the complex assembly. Androgen exposure induces a rapid phosphorylation of PKC, FAK, and ERK, which was counteracted by TRPM8 inhibitors. These signaling effectors control the cell locomotion mediated by the androgen-coupled AR in various cell types. At last, hormone stimulation upregulates PD-L1 levels. AR blockade by the antagonist, bicalutamide, and inhibition of TRPM8 both prevent such effect. Similar results were achieved by inhibiting FAK or ERK. Conclusions Our findings identify TRPM8 as a mediator of the androgen-driven signaling in melanoma cells. The AR/TRPM8 axis orchestrates calcium-dependent activation of PKC, FAK, and ERK, fostering cell motility on one hand. On the other, PD-L1 upregulation and the consequent immune-escape follow. TRPM8 blockade interferes with these responses. In sum, pharmacological inhibition of TRPM8 might be envisaged to counteract the hormone-mediated invasion of melanoma and amplify its responsiveness to immune therapy in clinical setting
