    Immersive Reconstruction of the Samnite Culture through Extended Reality

    This paper presents the survey and virtual reconstruction of 3rd-century BC “chamber-type” tombs discovered at Santa Maria Capua Vetere, on the southern slopes of Monte Massico. Photogrammetricbdocumentation of the surviving frescoes enabled the digital restoration of their architectural and decorativebelements, allowing visitors to re-experience the funerary environment as it once appeared. From theborthophotos of the interior walls, the paintings were analyzed and reconstructed to recover their original geometries and color schemes. Since the tombs are severely damaged and their wall paintings are nearly lost, the immersive virtual environment now serves as the only means to restore their ancient splendor and convey to contemporary audiences the sensory experience once evoked by the funerary rites. Through advanced visualization technologies, the project transforms archaeological data into a shared, meaningful space where users can engage with the world of the dead that ancient visitors encountered

    Advancing profiling of secondary antioxidant metabolites in Allium cepa PDO leaf extract: Online comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry and pre-column DPPH assay

    The food and agricultural processing industries generate significant amounts of phenolic-rich by-products, which hold potential as natural antioxidant sources for a wide range of applications, including functional ingredients and nutraceutical formulations. Allium cepa leaves represent a promising source of bioactive compounds. However, due to the complexity of their chemical composition, advanced analytical techniques are required to fully characterize the secondary metabolite profile and identify specific phytochemical classes or fractions with high nutraceutical potential. In this context, an online comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatography (LC×LC) approach was developed and optimized for the in-depth characterization of the phytochemical profile of Allium cepa PDO leaf extract. Key parameters in both dimensions, including flow rate, stationary phase chemistry, and mobile phase composition, were investigated to enhance peak capacity and orthogonality. The optimized method combined reversed phase in both dimension (RP-LC×RP-LC), offering high orthogonality (A0: 70.46 %) and peak capacity (nc: 1788.88). and significantly improving the separation of multiple secondary metabolite classes by effective employment of the 2D separation space. Further hyphenation with high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), enhanced compound annotation compared to mono-dimensional (1D-LC) techniques. A total of 147 compounds were tentatively annotated belonging to multiple classes such as flavonoids, saponins, phenylpropanoids, isoprenoids, terpenes, dipeptides, fatty acids, and lipids. Additionally, the antioxidant activity of Allium cepa leaf extract was assessed by coupling a pre-column 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay with the LC×LC-DAD-HRMS platform. This integrated approach enabled the identification of individual contributions of flavonoids, isoprenoids, and phenylpropanoids to radical scavenging activity.The method allowed an in-depth exploration of Allium cepa phytochemical profile, demonstrating to hold significant potential for the standardization of antioxidant biomarkers, with promising applications in the nutraceutical industry

    Complex genetic landscape in CLL: Clinical impact on patients’ survival and insights into the altered molecular pathways

    : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is characterized by a remarkably complex landscape. We performed a molecular characterization of liquid biopsies from 137 leukemia samples and 10 healthy subjects. Almost all patients express single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) mutations of the TP53 gene and the most common (n = 132 patients) was the Pro72Arg missense mutation. It was associated with significantly higher overall survival (p < 0.001) in untreated patients (n = 73) compared to treated patients (n = 58). However, this TP53 mutation is identified in both patients and healthy volunteers being likely a germinal mutation classified as SNP. In addition, a rare missense SNP mutation (Arg337Cys) of TP53 gene, correlated positively with clinical outcome (204 months; p = 0.00001) was also found. Its effects on p53 stability and function were subsequently evaluated. A missense mutation (Met541Leu) in the KIT gene was found in 18 patients and it was also significantly associated (p < 0.05) with a favorable outcome in untreated patients (n = 10) compared to treated ones (n = 8). We performed a comparative analysis among CLL patients classified into three prognostic groups (Binet A, B, and C). Survival analysis confirmed that Binet C patients had a significantly reduced survival compared to Binet A patients (p < 0.05)

    Nella storia della pratica allestitiva, come propensione volta all’accomodamento dello spazio costruito, l’opposizione archetipica del Novecento si reifica nell’incontro/scontro tra il lavoro di Carlo Scarpa e quello di Franco Albini: due protagonisti della scena museale che operavano con approcci diametralmente opposti. Il primo progettava allestimenti concentrati sull’enfasi della bellezza degli oggetti ma, al tempo stesso, lavorava sulla loro integrazione in armonia con il contesto. Un esempio rilevante è il lavoro che Scarpa ha realizzato al museo di Castelvecchio a Verona, dove restaura la fabbrica e si occupa di come esporre le opere al suo interno. Franco Albini, invece, interveniva sullo spazio in maniera non definitiva e attraverso degli allestimenti leggeri, modulari e modulabili in funzione delle necessità. Nel suo caso il rispetto per il “contenitore” passava tutto dalla estrema reversibilità dell’oggetto che aggiungeva. L’utilizzo di telai in ferro smontabili sia nella mostra di Arte Contemporanea italiana a Stoccolma nel 1953 che allo stand di Montecatini, con Franca Helg, per la fiera campionaria di Milano del 1961; dimostra questa attitudine reversibile. L’archetipo dell’opposto, perciò, può vivere in queste due modalità che si confrontano con l’indispensabile volontà di agire sull’esistente, senza escludersi necessariamente a vicenda, ma è proprio l’interpolazione formale dei due approcci a trasformare l’opposizione pragmatica in un incontro prolifico

    Il contributo esamina la risposta ad interpello n. 96/2025, in cui l’Agenzia delle Entra- te ridimensiona il concetto di accessorietà ai fini IVA, riconoscendo tale qualifica solo al servizio di parcheggio connesso a un parco tematico, ma non al noleggio di ombrelloni e cabine. L’analisi si confronta criticamente con la giurisprudenza unionale e nazionale, che valorizza la funzione economica dell’operazione e l’unitarietà dell’obiettivo perseguito, alla luce della prospettiva del consumatore medio. Si evidenzia, quindi, l’eccessiva rigi- dità della prassi amministrativa, auspicando un’interpretazione più aderente ai principi di diritto europeo

    WaveCORAL-DCCA: A Scalable Solution for Rotor Fault Diagnosis Across Operational Variabilities

    This paper presents WaveCORAL-DCCA, an unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) framework specifically developed to address data distribution shifts and operational variabilities (OVs) in rotor fault diagnosis. The framework introduces the novel integration of discrete wavelet transformation for robust time–frequency feature extraction and an enhanced deep canonical correlation analysis (DCCA) network with correlation alignment (CORAL) loss for superior domain-invariant representation learning. This combination enables more effective alignment of source and target feature distributions without requiring any labelled data from the target domain. Comprehensive validation on both experimental and numerically simulated rotor datasets across three health conditions—i.e., normal, unbalanced, and misaligned—demonstrates that WaveCORAL-DCCA achieves an average diagnostic accuracy of 95%. Notably, it outperforms established UDA benchmarks by at least 5–17% in cross-domain scenarios. These results confirm that WaveCORAL-DCCA provides robust generalisation across machines, fault severities, and operational conditions, even with scarce target domain samples, offering a scalable and practical solution for industrial rotor fault diagnosis

    The NO Pathway as a Target in Patients with Stable and Advanced Heart Failure: An Additional Arrow in Our Quiver!

    The nitric oxide (NO) pathway is a fundamental regulator of vascular tone, myocardial function, and inflammation. In heart failure (HF), especially in advanced stages, dysregulation of NO–soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC)–cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) signaling contributes to endothelial dysfunction, increased vascular resistance, myocardial fibrosis, and impaired cardiac performance. Chronic inflammation further reduces NO bioavailability, exacerbating HF progression This review synthesizes current knowledge on the role of the NO pathway in HF pathophysiology, with a focus on stable and advanced HF. Special attention is given to patient subgroups with comorbidities such as chronic kidney disease, where modulation of NO signaling may be particularly beneficial. We also evaluate therapeutic strategies targeting NO bioavailability and sGC stimulation. Evidence shows that impaired NO signaling promotes systemic and pulmonary vasoconstriction, elevates ventricular afterload, and worsens cardiac remodeling. Pharmacological agents that restore NO levels or activate downstream effectors such as sGC improve vasodilation, reduce fibrosis, and enhance myocardial relaxation. These effects are especially relevant in advanced HF patients and those with renal impairment, who often exhibit limited responses to conventional therapies. The NO pathway represents a promising therapeutic target in both stable and advanced HF. Modulating this pathway could improve outcomes, particularly in complex populations with multiple comorbidities, highlighting the need for further clinical research and tailored treatments
