L’ISTITUTO DEL GARNISHMENT NEL REGNO UNITO E IN FRANCIA

    No full text
Garnishment, an institution of forced execution, had a significant historical and legislative evolution in the legal systems of the UK and France, with common roots in the principles of Roman and Canon Law. The operational methods show the differences between the systems in balancing the efficiency of debt collection with the protection of debtors' rights. The institution is relevant in transnational contexts, its widespread application stems from its ability to balance effectiveness and speed.

Digital representations for natural heritage: enhancement strategies in the “De+Humans” project

    No full text
The New European Bauhaus, through its implementation strategies, proposes a multidisciplinary vision to promote the values of beauty, inclusion, and sustainability. The “Designing with more-than-humans” project applies this vision to the Cratere degli Astroni Nature Reserve, utilising digital narratives that blend real and artificial images to raise awareness of the human-nature relationship and territorial identity. Through a transdisciplinary approach, the team analysed key local elements, exploring physical and perceptual relationships. The digital repre-sentation, combining macro and micro perspectives, visualises the dialogue be-tween these elements in a video-graphic work that overlays aerial footage, textual content, and AI-generated images, offering new perspectives on natural heritage

Current evidence of unicuspid aortic valve in young adults: A systematic review and metanalysis

    No full text
Unicuspid aortic valve (UAV) is a rare congenital valvular anomaly, often misdiagnosed as the more prevalent bicuspid aortic valve (BAV). The aim of this study was to explore demographic, clinical characteristics, diagnosis, surgical options, short and long term outcomes of young adults with UAV. A systematic review and meta-analysis of literature were conducted for studies (1971-2024) including patients (>= 14 years old) with diagnosis of UAV. Among the 2953 studies retrieved, 67 case reports, 6 case series (n = 130) and 13 retrospective studies (n = 918), were included in the analysis. Data from retrospective studies were aggregated using a random effects model for estimating the pooled risk ratio and mean difference. UAV is mostly unicommissural in adults (mean age 36 years old at diagnosis, 76-79 % males). The most common conditions associated in UAV patients were aortic coarctation (from 3.8 to 12 %), ventricular septal defect (3 %) and Turner syndrome (3 %). In general, the diagnosis was performed with TTE and confirmed with TEE (+/- 3D-TEE). The most common types of surgery were AVR. Dilated ascending aorta was described in 44 % and 35 % of retrospective studies and case reports, respectively. Concomitant ascending aorta replacement/repair was reported 38 % and 27 % of retrospective studies and case reports, respectively. Overall survival was reported in 3 studies, ranging from 95 to 98 % at 10 years. UAV should be considered a separate entity from BAV. Further investigations with regards to the possibility of a familial incidence, associated histopathological changes in the aorta, and ideal follow up and intervention are needed

Antithrombotic therapy in patients with atrial high-rate episodes (AHREs): Current evidence and open questions

    No full text
With the increasing use of cardiac electronic implantable devices in recent years, the identification of asymptomatic atrial arrhythmias, including atrial high-rate episodes (AHREs) and device-detected subclinical atrial fibrillation (SCAF), has become common in clinical practice. AHREs have potentially important clinical implications because they are considered precursors of atrial fibrillation (AF). Although to a lesser extent than clinical AF, both AHREs and device-detected SCAF are associated with thromboembolic events, however routine use of anticoagulants in these conditions is not recommended. In addition, patients with AHREs are at increased risk of cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction, heart failure, and cardiovascular hospitalization. The relationship between stroke and AHREs and the potential benefit of anticoagulant therapy in this setting is the subject of ongoing debate. In this review, we aimed to appraise the available evidence and current gaps in the risk stratification and management of patients with AHREs/device-detected SCAF

IL BRIGANTAGGIO E LA SUA REPRESSIONE NELLA STORIA D’ITALIA. A 160 anni dalla Legge Pica

    No full text

Discovery of the First-in-Class Dual TSPO/Carbonic Anhydrase Modulators with Promising Neurotrophic Activity

    No full text
In searching for putative new therapeutic strategies to treat neurodegenerative diseases, the mitochondrial 18 kDa translocator protein (TSPO) and cerebral isoforms of carbonic anhydrase (CA) were exploited as potential targets. Based on the structures of a class of highly affine and selective TSPO ligands and a class of CA activators, both developed by us in recent years, a small library of 2-phenylindole-based dual TSPO/CA modulators was developed, able to bind TSPO and activate CA VII in the low micromolar/submicromolar range. The interaction with the two targets was corroborated by computational studies. Biological investigation on human microglia C20 cells identified derivative 3 as a promising lead compound worthy of future optimization due to its (i) lack of cytotoxicity, (ii) ability to stimulate TSPO steroidogenic function and activate CA VII, and (iii) ability to effectively upregulate gene expression of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor
