Service Quality Dynamics: Exploring the Impact of Novelty on Customer Enjoyment and Satisfaction with Serving Robots
Get PDFThis report examines the influence of customer novelty on enjoyment and satisfaction in the context of serving robots within the foodservice industry. With a focus on addressing concerns surrounding service quality, the study utilizes the SERVQUAL model to evaluate reliability, assurance, tangibles, empathy, and responsiveness. Moreover, it investigates the levels of enjoyment and satisfaction in robotic service interactions. Through a comparative analysis of two distinct consumer segments, Explorers and Traditionalists, the study reveals that Explorers, characterized by novelty-seeking behavior, express higher satisfaction with robotic service. The findings suggest that businesses can enhance satisfaction by leveraging novelty in human-robot interactions. Furthermore, the study sheds light on the dynamics of human-robot interactions in hospitality, offering valuable insights for businesses aiming to optimize their use of serving robots. By understanding and capitalizing on evolving consumer preferences, businesses can effectively adapt their strategies to meet the changing demands of the market
Human Second Metacarpal Nanocrystal Analysis
Get PDFFemale human bones dated to the 6th - 8th century CE were uncovered in Greding Germany after archaeologists discovered a medieval cemetery. Age-at-death estimates have been determined, and data from several techniques are currently being analyzed to learn more about these samples. The purpose of this project is to study the diaphyses of the second metacarpal (mc2) bones excavated using wide-angle x-ray scattering data collected at beamline 1-ID of the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory. The diffraction data were refined using the Rietveld method to obtain lattice (‘a’ and ‘c’) parameter values of the carbonated hydroxyapatite crystalline phase. One goal of the project was to investigate if there is a correlation between age-at-death and the lattice parameters. Another goal was to determine if ‘a’ and ‘c’ show spatial variation in the mc2 bones. The data were also compared to a modern mc2 sample

Identity Shifting Behaviors, Perceptions of Diversity, and Perceived Discrimination in South Asian Employees
Get PDFWorkplace discrimination is a significant issue in the workplace for minority racial and ethnic groups, especially for South Asian employees in the US. This study investigated the relationship between perceived workplace diversity climate and identity shifting behaviors (manifestation and suppression behaviors of group identity) that South Asian employees might display at work. Furthermore, it was also expected that perceptions of racial discrimination experiences would mediate this relationship. It was hypothesized that perceived diversity climate will be negatively related to suppression behaviors and positively related manifestation behaviors, mediated by perceptions of racial discrimination. Participants were recruited from social media, Prolific, and the SONA pool of a university in Chicago (N = 297). Results found that the relationship between perceived diversity climate and suppression behaviors was completely mediated by perceived racial discrimination. However, there was no mediation in the relationship between perceived diversity climate and manifestation behaviors. The study is a starting point for research with the demographic of South Asian workers and a deeper look into identity shifting at work

Police Identity and The Role of Media in a Contemporary Society: A Look at the Personal and Professional Effect on Law Enforcement
Get PDFAbstract This research study examined the impact of media on law enforcement and the secondary impact of this media on the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve. In addition, the study examined whether those perceptions influence police and community interactions and/or behaviors on the daily basis. This study describes the perceptions of police officers both professionally and personally as it relates to media coverage and the changing of their normal police tactics. The specific events that were focused on in this study included the shooting of Michael Brown by police in Ferguson, Missouri in August of 2014, and the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis, Minnesota in May of 2020. This mixed methods study was conducted to identify how the media’s portrayal of police impacts police perceptions, police identity, police-community interactions, and the emotional well-being of police officers. Police officers were surveyed utilizing a modified national poll to ascertain comparable data. Data from this study was coded into 3 dominant themes, that were related to the daily interactions of police officers and the impact of media coverage of police-related incidents of violence, and then the content was analyzed. The focus surrounded the perceptions and attitudes towards police officers and the effect those perceptions and attitudes had on daily interactions. The findings indicated that media coverage of police-related incidents of violence impacted police officers. The majority of the police officers reported changes in their daily interactions as a result of media coverage both personally and professionally. Today, police officers are faced with a wide variety of circumstances which play a role in the way they perform their duties. This study has indicated that police officers are attributing their personal and professional perceptions of the attitudes of the public towards them to the media. These officers are faced with negativity, as a result of media coverage, which leads to officers altering their daily interactions just to ensure that they go home safely. Police officers are faced with challenges every day and one of those challenges includes the impact of media coverage sensationalizing police-related incidents of violence. This study and future studies surrounding the impact of media coverage and law enforcement continues to be a significant factor in the interactions between the police and the community. Studying the perceptions and attitudes of the public towards the police initiates a foundation to establish an effective police-community relationship. Effective media coverage leads to effective police-community interactions/relationships. Sabbath Keeping as A Virtue for Shalom

In this article, I argue for the retrieval of a broader understanding of Sabbath keeping practices, drawing on the Sabbath theology of Thomas Aquinas. I argue that understanding sabbath keeping as being primarily about the development of virtue rather than simply obedience to law makes Sabbath more attainable and more effective for transformation of workers seeking to advance shalom
A Systematic Exploration of Theoretical, Conceptual, and Methodological Alignment of Social Network Analysis in Organizational Behavior
Get PDFThis systematic review examines how Social Network Analysis (SNA) is used in the study of Organizational Behavior (OB). Industrial-Organizational Psychology Literature suggests SNA tends to be applied using either a structural or relational approach (Erikson, 2013). Some researchers claim that this methodology is applied inconsistently due to the intermingling of two distinct underlying frameworks and the exclusion of individual differences and interpersonal factors limits the relevance of SNA (Erikson, 2013; Kilduff & Lee, 2020). Results indicate the structural perspective is slightly dominant across the use of SNA, but the use of both frameworks is increasing. Directionally, study methods aligned with the theoretical framework presented. The use of moderators and individual difference variables was common, although SNA metrics were used as sole predictors as frequently. More transparency about the alignment between theoretical support and methodological decisions is recommended
Church Reform in a New Cultural and Ecclesial Context: Diagnoses and Positive Starting Points
Get PDFCarlos Schickendantz discusses why the Church\u27s governance needs reform and the extent to which the Second Vatican Council recognized this. He explains how the Church should incorporate accountability into its structure and why its hierarchy should share power with the laity. Schickendantz describes why the sexual abuse crisis highlights the exigency for these reforms and how they all have precedents in thought resulting from the Second Vatican Council. The current synodal process also addresses two other important contemporary issues: women’s role in the Church and “the inclusion of marginalized people in a decolonial perspective.” As Schickendantz writes, “The synodal process, which must include multiple spaces for listening especially to those marginalized in society and the church, recognizes in each person and social group a wisdom necessary for the mission of the Church. There is no enlightened minority that knows what is best for the Church. And the social and cultural peripheries have a privileged point of view, as theologies based on the option for the poor have shown.” Some of the Church’s recent experiences in Latin America are offered to illustrate the synodal process in action
