    Shared Culture in Intimate Relationships

    Get PDF
Almost everyone identifies with some kind of culture and the definition often varies among researchers and disciplines of the field. Culture has an influence on every aspect of one’s everyday life, including the role it plays in close relationships. Although intimate relationships and culture have been widely explored in psychological research, limited studies have explored how these two factors may go hand in hand in creating what may be a newer concept, a mini-culture (smaller, unique cultural groups that develop within larger societies or organizations). The purpose of this study was to explore how this awareness of culture sharing and creation would affect relationship satisfaction. It was hypothesized that positivity resonance would play a mediating role and that a higher frequency of cultural sharing would lead to increased relationship satisfaction. We recruited 154 participants who completed several self-report questionnaires about their current relationship and elements of culture sharing. Positivity resonance and relationship satisfaction were also measured, followed by a visual scale to measure the perspective of the interconnectedness of the relationship. The results showed that positivity resonance and the degree to which students felt interconnected with their partners played a mediating role in this study. Moreover, the regression analysis found that higher shared culture did show a positive relationship with relationship satisfaction. The implications of these findings enhance our understanding of how becoming aware and practicing a shared culture between couples leads to the creation of a mini-culture and thus, increasing relationship satisfaction. This research contributes to the ongoing literature on intimate relationship research and relationship satisfaction and cultivates conversations about the concept of mini-cultures

Examination of the Interaction of Tourism Seasonality, Hospitality Enterprise Size, and Patronage Rate in Visitor Flow Dynamics in Kisumu Region, Kenya.

    Get PDF
Tourism seasonality has significantly impacted hospitality enterprises\u27 financial stability and operational efficiency. However, its interaction with enterprise size and patronage rate remains underexplored, particularly in urban destinations such as Kisumu Region, Kenya. This study examines how tourism seasonality, hospitality enterprise size, and patronage rate influence visitor flow dynamics. A mixed-methods research design was adopted; the study integrated quantitative analysis of visitor numbers with qualitative insights from key industry stakeholders. Results indicate that Seasonality significantly affects visitor numbers, with larger enterprises exhibiting more pronounced seasonal fluctuations than smaller ones. However, patronage rates do not significantly moderate these trends, suggesting that customer behavior remains relatively consistent across seasons. The results highlight the need for tailored business strategies based on enterprise size and policy interventions to promote Kisumu as a year-round destination. The study contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable tourism management by providing empirical insights that inform business resilience and policy Planning in seasonally affected urban tourism destinations

Event Planners and Plants: Creating a Blooming Experience

    Get PDF
This research examines how event planners and horticulturists can collaborate to enhance guest experiences through events hosted at arboretums and public gardens. The meeting and event industry offers diverse opportunities, aiming to create memorable, engaging experiences that encourage return visits. Unique venues such as botanical gardens blend natural beauty, education, and community engagement, elements that traditional spaces often lack. Horticulture, rooted in the art, science, and business of plants, benefits from partnerships with event planners who bring expertise in design and guest experience. Based on existing literature, this study explores how thoughtful event design featuring sustainable floral arrangements and nature centered themes can elevate events and promote environmental awareness. Arboretum venues foster deeper community connections and broaden public appreciation for horticulture. Key findings suggest that creative collaboration between event professionals and horticulturists results in meaningful, immersive events that attract new audiences and redefine how we gather in nature inspired spaces

Conical Radon Transform for Medical Imaging

    Get PDF
The 2D Conical Radon transform is an alternate approach to medical imaging that is more efficient than the conventional method used in the PET Scan. Here, a 2D Conical Radon transform is used to reconstruct a function or image from a line integral on a 2-dimensional cone with a fixed angle and axis of symmetry at each data point. Implemented in MATLAB, this method uses a single Reimann Sum to produce images in a faster and less computationally expensive way. The V-Line transform is an alternative understanding of the 2D Conical Radon transform in which it is theoretically proven that a function enclosed in a circle of fixed radius can be retrieved using the transform. This proof works with the basic setup of single scattering optical tomography (SSOT)
