    Hominoid

Hominoid is an experimental game about the choices that people make and the stories they tell themselves as they go throughout experiences in life. The player experiences the game as a being between human and animal, implied to be a coyote. The core loop of the game is simple: the player finds objects hidden in a vast desert and dig them up. They then choose to experience its story or not, and in doing so also choose between becoming closer to humanity, or more animalistic. The real substance in the game comes from the stories attached to each game that the player can experience – whether that’s text, twine games that open in browser, audio, or images

Choosing the Best Entity for Investments Trading After Understanding the Tax Limitations and Restrictions

    No full text
The trading of various securities is subject to market rules. However, when securities trading is completed within a business entity, the entity is subject to tax limitations and restrictions. The tax benefits cannot be the dominant purpose for the entity structure; economic substance including profit motive and business purpose for each transaction must be able to be shown. The trading of investment securities must be housed in the right entity to gain the best economic results as well as to minimize the tax burden. The entity selection process must first consider the characteristics and nature of the securities (e.g., currencies, options, derivatives) trading. Then, the tax prohibitions of each entity must be reviewed in an effort to describe what will qualify and will not be abusive under the tax rules. A team of investment professionals and tax professionals must be involved in the final entity decision

Liberated Education: Sustainable Paradigms and Pathways for Black and Latino Communities Beyond Formal Education

    No full text
As the innovation and educational entrepreneurship sparked by the global pandemic continues to reshape the educational ecosystem, communities are left questioning how to manage and sustain new programs. This dissertation investigates the sustainability strategies employed by founders of liberated educational programs that operate outside the formal school system. These programs are specifically designed to provide educational alternatives for Black and Latino communities in the United States. Using a qualitative, multiple case study approach, this study draws data from interviews with four program founders, program handbooks, website analysis, analytic memos, and virtual tours. The application of Bronfenbrenner’s Process-Person-Context-Time (PPCT) model guided the data analysis, leading to the identification of the critical factors central to program longevity: founders’ motivations, sustainability and innovation strategies, communal collaboration, organizational operations, and the implementation of unconventional pedagogical approaches. This research provides philosophical and practical recommendations for aspiring program founders seeking to sustain new and innovative educational models outside conventional school systems

Beyond the Curriculum: The Influence of Teacher-Student Relationships in Special Education

    No full text
This study explores the experiences of high school special education students and their relationships with their teachers. The research question at the heart of this study is: What are the perceptions of high school students with special needs regarding positive, sustained relationships with their teachers? Literature regarding the influences for both teachers and students and relationship-driven pedagogy is presented. This study is grounded in Nel Noddings’ ethics of care, Lisa Delpit’s “warm demander” model, and literature regarding relationships during the COVID-19 pandemic are included as frameworks to explore how these relationships develop, are maintained, and how they have changed since 2020. Using a constructivist, qualitative interpretive approach, five senior high school students receiving special education services were interviewed regarding their experiences building positive, sustained relationships with their teachers. Interviews occurred over a six-week period in a one-on-one setting. Data from the interviews was inductively coded and four key themes were emerged: mental health and emotional support, honesty and trust, teacher access and availability, and high expectations. These findings suggest that positive, sustained teacher-student relationships can play a critical role in both academic and personal development. This study adds to the growing body of literature on special education and teacher-student relationships by centering student voices and offering implications and recommendations for teachers, school leaders, and policymakers seeking to create more supportive learning environments for students with special needs. Keywords: special education, teacher-student relationship, qualitative research, relationship-driven pedagogy, resiliency, caring, warm-demander, COVID-1

Unraveling the Decline: A Phenomenological Narrative Exploration of Chinese Students\u27 Experiences and Decisions in Selecting U.S. Higher Education

    No full text
This study examined the declining trend of Chinese student enrollment in U.S. higher education by incorporating recent enrollment data and findings from the 2024 Open Doors Report. The researcher employed a phenomenological narrative inquiry approach and conducted semi-structured interviews to explore the lived experiences of Chinese international students through the lens of the push-pull theoretical framework. The analysis confirmed several well-established push-pull factors, including the influence of exchange programs and parental guidance. One counter theme emerged as most participants described a desire to avoid China’s high-stakes exam system. The study identified six additional themes: flexible admissions, desire for independence, merit-based employment, practical experiences, immigration stability, and social concerns. These findings deepen the understanding of the complex experiences shaping Chinese student mobility and retention and offer valuable insights for institutional leaders and policymakers
