有病者歯科診療のUpdate : 10年前の知識で抜歯していませんか?
The field of dental treatment has experienced significant shifts over the past decade, beginning in the 2010s. These changes have been driven by several factors, including the emergence of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), the establishment of the Action Plan for Drug Resistance Control, and updates to the Medication-related Osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) position paper. To maintain high standards of care, dental professionals must consistently integrate new research findings into their practices and strive to improve the overall quality of dental treatments.journal articl
Kebede Michael and the Ethiopia-Japan Academic Partnership : A Review
Kebede Michael, a prominent Ethiopian intellectual, is celebrated for pioneering academic cooperation between Ethiopia and Japan in the 20th century. His book "Japan Indemin Seletenech" stand out as reflections of his vision for Ethiopia's development and his admiration for Japan’s modernization model. This review focuses on his strategic efforts to foster bilateral relations through educational and cultural diplomacy, emphasizing his vision of learning from Japan's rapid modernization while maintaining Ethiopia's national identity. We conducted historical and contextual analysis, content analysis of Kebede’s works, comparative educational diplomacy framework, based on the books, articles, research papers, and archival documents authored by Kebede and other relevant scholars to analyze his role in shaping Ethiopia-Japan academic relations. The findings highlight his advocacy for Ethiopian students to pursue higher education in Japan, particularly in science and technology fields, positioning Japanese education as a model for Ethiopia’s modernization efforts. By critically assessing these sources, the review demonstrates how Kebede’s intellectual diplomacy—based on education and cultural exchange—laid the foundation for lasting academic cooperation. Furthermore, it evaluates the long-term influence of his contributions, revealing how his ideas continue to impact current partnerships between Ethiopian and Japanese universities, with important implications for research collaborations, student exchanges, and capacity building.journal articl
Pericoronary adipose tissue : potential for pathological diagnosis and therapeutic applications
Excessive accumulation of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is known to be a risk factor for coronary artery disease and heart failure. In particular, it is thought that inflammation of pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) affects the pathology of various coronary artery diseases (CAD). EAT and PCAT are thought to be new therapeutic targets for preventing cardiovascular disease. Although there are no established drugs that specifically reduce inflammation of EAT or PCAT, the basic approach is to improve lifestyle-related diseases through exercise and diet, and to use metabolic improvement drugs and anti-inflammatory drugs as soft support. Potential candidates include statins, SGLT2 inhibitors, and GLP-1 receptor agonists. In addition to conventional treatments that target substances within blood vessels, treatments that target EAT and PCAT by directly enveloping the coronary arteries and myocardium from outside the body are expected to further suppress cardiovascular events.journal articl
Dairy Intake and All-Cause, Cancer, and Cardiovascular Disease Mortality Risk in A Large Japanese Population : A 12-Year Follow-Up of the J-MICC Study
Aim: We examined the association between dairy intake and all-cause, cancer, and cardiovascular disease mortality in a cohort of the general population followed up for 12 years across Japan.
Methods: We conducted a longitudinal cohort study of 79,715 participants from the Japan Multi-Institutional Collaborative Cohort study (57.2% women, mean age 54.7 years old). The amount of dairy (milk and yogurt) intake was determined using a validated short-food frequency questionnaire. The hazard ratio for mortality according to sex-specific tertile of dairy intake was calculated using Cox proportional hazards regression models with adjustment for potential confounding factors and dietary factors by sex.
Results: During the follow-up period (932,738 person-years), 3,723 participants died, including 2,088 cancer and 530 cardiovascular disease deaths. The highest tertile of total dairy intake (versus the lowest tertile) was associated with a 19% lower all-cause mortality risk (hazard ratio=0.81, 95% confidence interval: 0.70-0.92; P for trend=0.001) in women. Similarly, we observed inverse associations between milk intake and all-cause and cancer mortality risk in women, yogurt intake and cardiovascular disease risk in women, and yogurt intake and all-cause mortality risk in both sexes.
Conclusion: A higher total dairy and milk intakes in women and yogurt intake in both sexes were associated with a reduced risk of all-cause mortality in the general population across Japan during the 12-year follow-up period.journal articl
Black Soldier Fly Larvae Meal as a Sustainable Alternative to Fishmeal in Juvenile Swamp Eel Diets : Effects on Growth and Meat Quality
The rising scarcity and cost of fishmeal due to overfishing and environmental challenges demand alternatives. Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae (BSFL) meal, with its nutritional value, shows promise as a sustainable supplement for aquaculture species. This study evaluated the effects of BSFL meal supplementation on growth performance, survival, feed conversion efficiency, and meat quality in juvenile swamp eels (Monopterus albus) initially weighing 4.0 ± 0.5 g. The eels were fed diets with 0% (control), 10%, 30%, and 50% BSFL meal for three months. Growth performance was assessed using the absolute growth rate (AGR) and the specific growth rate (SGR). Feed conversion ratios (FCRs), survival rates, and meat quality metrics, including fillet percentage, crude protein, and moisture content, were analyzed. Statistical differences among groups were evaluated using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test for pairwise comparisons. The 30% BSFL group exhibited superior performance, achieving the highest AGR and SGR (p 0.05). These results confirm that 30% BSFL supplementation optimally enhances productivity and meat quality in swamp eels, highlighting BSFL meal’s potential as a sustainable aquafeed alternative.journal articl
更年期以降をいきいきと過ごすために
During menopausal transition (climacteric period), estrogen secretion drops sharply with the decline in ovarian function, causing menstrual irregularities and other various climacteric symptoms. As the average life expectancy increases, the period of estrogen deficiency after menopause is also increasing, making it important to prevent and manage osteoporosis, arteriosclerosis, dementia which are caused by estrogen deficiency, and breast cancer, the leading cancer in women. In order to live a fulfilling life after menopause, it is also important to participate in society through hobbies, local activities, volunteer work, and other activities. In addition to paying attention to disease prevention and health management, interacting with many people, enjoying conversation, and living a fulfilling life will help maintain and improve quality of life and extend healthy lifespan.journal articl
女性の健康と肥満
Body Mass Index (BMI) is commonly used to assess body size. Obesity is diagnosed at a BMI of 25 or higher. Obesity in women increases the risk of menstrual irregularities, infertility, and complications during pregnancy and childbirth. It also involved to fetal and postnatal complications.
The concept of “preconception care” has become increasingly popular in recent years. This concept indicates the importance of being aware of one’s health “before” conception in order to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery. This knowledge is also important for those who do not choose pregnancy and childbirth, as it can lead to a healthy future.
In this presentation, I would like to focus on obesity, a common health problem, as one of preconception care. In order to help obese women have safer pregnancies and childbirths, I would like to provide information that all women -before, during, and after pregnancy- should know now.journal articl
脳アミロイド小体とアルツハイマー型認知症の関連
In this study, we investigated the origin of the brain corpora amylacea (CA) and its association with Alzheimer’s disease, with the aim of identifying indicators for dementia assessment. The cases were autopsied at the Department of Forensic Medicine, University of Tokushima, and the postmortem examinations were performed within 48 h of death. The immunostaining results showed that almost all brain CAs were positive for ubiquitin and neurofilaments, which suggests that brain CAs contain components derived from protein processing systems and that the proteins are of neuronal origin. We analyzed the correlation between the number of brain CAs and the sum of neurofibrillary tangles and senile plaques, and identified a significant positive correlation only in male cases.
Therefore, we suggested that the number of brain CAs in the hematoxylin and eosin-stained brains of male patients with a strong positive correlation can be evaluated as a simple preliminary test for the Braak classification using Gallyas–Braak staining.journal articl
