Multiple Discharge between Charged Polymer Surfaces and Droplets

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn the case of the discharge from the pendent drop to the charged polymer surface, an electrostatically stressed liquid surface is distorted into a stable conical shape. This report presents the results of the electrostatic discharge between a pendent drop and the charged polymer surface. It was found that the multiple discharge appears only in the case of the positive charging polymer. This discharge depended on the conductivity or the surface tension of the sample water. It is considered that this multiple discharge is a kind of Trichel pulse corona.departmental bulletin pape

Spatial Distribution of Cu Atoms Sputtered from Copper Target in RF Magnetron Sputtering

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe spatial distribution of Cu atoms sputtered from a copper target in an RF magnetron sputtering was measured by the use of a quartz-crystal deposition monitor. At Argon pressure of 20 Pa, the angular distribution of sputtered atoms had a cosine-like distribution. At the lower Argon pressure, however, the deposition rate decreased at the front the target. This decrease was due to energetic neutral Ar atoms which bombarded and evaporated the growing films at the front of the target. The spatial distribution of Cu atoms sputtered from the target was simulated using the Monte Carlo method and compared with the observed result.departmental bulletin pape

Studies of a Dynamic Type Ice Storage System Using Supercooled Water

    Get PDF
application/pdfAn ice storage system using supercooled water for ice making sluny-ice was constructed in this research to find conditions of stable and efficient operation. The system was consisted of a storage tank with the volume of 1.5 m3, as piral double-tube heat exchanger 22 m long, cold and hot brine tanks, a heater and refrigerating machine of the rated capacity of 2.2 kW. Stability of ice making was realized by improvement of water-exit part of the heat exchanger, proper arrangement of the heater and the water pump, and use of extended region of the water path between ilie outlet of the heater and the inlet of the heat exchanger for melting ice particles in the circulating water. A method to calculate an instantaneous ice-packing factor from the measurements of temperatures of water was easy and proper. Two control methods for operating the system steadily were applied to the system. The method which controls the temperature of the supercooled water at the exit of the heat exchanger showed better performance in producing ice than the method which controls the temperature of the brine at the inlet of the heat exchanger. A COP of about 1.5 based on the power consumption of the refrigerating machine was attained.departmental bulletin pape

Study on the High Emciency Input and Compression Technique for the Multiple Point of View Image Communication

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn order to improve reality of image communications such as musical concert, we proposed a new multiple points of view image communication system. In this paper, at first stage, input and compression technique was focused. The concept is based on spatial resemblance between plural cameras when they are arranged. Each camera image is taken in turn in frame switch unit and is compressed by MPEG2 coding unit. From the experiment using the model system, spatial resemblance and compression rate was evaluated and possibility of the proposed system was confirmed.departmental bulletin pape

A Clustering Method of Japanese Documents by Self-Organizing Maps for Full Text Database

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn this article, we propose a document clustering method with Natural Language Processing and Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) on our Web based DBMS (Data Base Management System) for clinical cases. The system is implemented in Java language on the Internet server, and all documents of clinical cases in the database are written in Japanese. We tested the system ability to evaluate for the correct clustering of clinical cases, that each document has 30 attributes in an input-vector for SOM-learning. For the result of this ability test, it shows that 73.9% of clustering datasets are correct answers. Thus, it seems that our method is available to search the similar cases in the database.departmental bulletin pape

A Study of Ball Extmction in Soccer Match Video

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe purpose of this research is to identify the place of ball in soccer match game video. As a first step, we tested a simple image recognition algorithm that exploited color and shape of balls. First of all, color distribution of balls in color space was investigated. The results showed that these distribution could be approximated with the rectangle in the red and green two dimensions color space that normalized by brightness. After edge detection (by Sobel filter), outline recognition and detection of circles by hough transform were carried out. Although experiment was carried out about 4 kinds of balls, only ball was not able to be extracted. To extract ball precisely, more detailed color information of ball would be necessary.departmental bulletin pape

Surface Effect in Landau Diamagnetism and Density Matrix

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe density matrix of free electrons confined in a large box is calculated by perturbation. The relation beteween the second order term and the average value of magnetization is discussed. The uniform convergence of Z(β) in the limited region near β=0 requires some restriction on the shape of くM(μ,H)>. Exact derivation gives the conclusion that a divergent term in with H→0 is non-existent.departmental bulletin pape

Reactive Ion Etching of CVD Diamond Thin Films in O2/CF4 Plasma

    Get PDF
application/pdfReactive ion etching (RIE) of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond thin films has been investigated in depth in O2 gas plasma mixed with CF4 and electrodes distance. The optical emission spectrum of the RF plasma was monitored to explore the etching mechanisms. The large etch rate is obtained by using O2/10-20%CF4 at electrodes distance of 1.5cm, RF power of 100W, O2 flow rate of 20sccm, total pressure of 20Pa plasma conditions. The emission intensity of O has a peak around O2/10-20%CF4. The results of etch rate and emission intensity agree well with each other.departmental bulletin pape

Condition for Maximum Sensitivity in UV/Millimeter-Wave PCD Technique and Characterization of Epitaxial Layer and Subsurface Damage in Si Wafers Using Its Technique

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe technique for high measurement sensitivity in UV/Millimeter-wave PCD technique with 100 GHz millimeter wave has been discussed theoretically and experimentally. The maximum sensitivity was obtained near the matching between a radiated 100Ghz wave and Si wafer samples. The technique detected epilayer contamination as 1011 cm -3 order of Mo and Fe induced in the epitaxial crystal growth process. The technique also detected very slight subsurface damage induced by mirror polishing in commercial level wafers. The PCA signal with the technique well reflected removal of the damage by SCI cleaning. The behavior of PCA measured well agreed with the recovery of gate oxide integrity in MOS devices. The damage depth was determined to be 21 nm. PCA in UV/Millimeter-wave technique well revealed the subsurface damage induced by the final mirror polishingdepartmental bulletin pape

Quasiparticle Band of Antiferromagnetic Semiconductors -Single-Site Approximation for the s-f Model-

    Get PDF
application/pdfFor the s-f model in an antiferromagnetic semiconductor, the effect of the antiferromagnetic ordering of the localized spins on the conduction-electron state is investigated over a wide range of exchange strengths by combining the effective-medium approach with the Green's function in 2 x 2 sublattice Bloch function representation. The band splitting due to the reduced magnetic Brillouin zone occurs below the Néel temperature. There is a marked effect of the thermal fluctuation of the antiferromagnetically ordered localized spins on the conduction electron at the energies near the top (bottom) of the lower- (higher-) energy subband.departmental bulletin pape
