    On the Internal Structure of the English Small Clause

    application/pdfThis paper is an attempt to investigate the phrase-internal structure of so-called "small clauses" in English, which appear smaller in size than full clauses, in the sense that though they can express predication relation with the subject and the predicate within themselves as a clause normally does, they lack the complementizer, the inflectional node, especially Tense element, and sometimes even a verb. It has often been claimed that they should be analyzed as a maximal projection of the predicator, which can be any lexical category; a noun, an adjective, a preposition, or a verb. But there are some pieces of evidence suggesting that they also have a functional layer over the lexical projection, as the full clause does. It is demonstrated that the functional projection in question is an AgrP, not an IP, however. Therefore, "small clauses" are not so small as have been thought, but still are "smaller" than the full clause.departmental bulletin pape

    application/pdfThe actors of the Kyôgen comedic theatre perform in an empty space of the Noh theatre. They almost never use stage sets; props are also minimal. Using dialogues and the actors' movement, Kyôgen has developed simple and efficient ways to indicate places. Kyôgen has also, devised ingenious blocking patterns to indicate changes of places--multiple entrances and exits, characters being on stage but out of the scene, going places, and travels. Thus, Kyôgen's empty space becomes an ever-transformmg three-dimens10nal entity. The repertory of Kyôgen plays reflects the lives of common people, particularly of the latter half of the Muromachi period (1338-1573). And, Cd2+ ion which dissolved in the aqueous solution formed again the CdS fine particle using thioacetamide (CH3CSNH2) by the coexistence of sodium hexametaphosphate (NaPO3)n=6 as surface chemical modifier.     Difference between Heating Electrical Resistivity Curves in Cu-13at%Pd and Cu-13at%Pt Alloys with the Same Ordered Structure

    application/pdfThe electrical resistivity of Cu-13at%Pd and Cu-13at%Pt alloys ordered and disordered by annealing at various temperature and immediately quenched, is measured during continuous heating, and the results obtained are compared each other. Also, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) of each sample is performed to obtain the order parameters at various temperatures. Resistivity measurement reveals that in both alloys of Cu-13at%Pd and Cu-i3at%Pt, the eiectricai resistivity increases just below the order-disorder transition temperature (Tc) and general feature of the electrical resistivity change during heating is similar to each other in both alloys. The residual resistivity in Cu-13at%Pd alloy decreases in proportion to [order parameter (S)]3.8 and in Cu-13at%Pt alloy decreases in proportion to S4.8. While, temperature coefficient of electrical resistivity increases in proportion to S2 in both alloys. However, in samples disordered by quenching from higher temperatures above T■ the electrical resistivity of Cu-13at%Pd alloy initiates to increase anomaly at lower temperatures, while the electricalre sistivity of Cu-13atPt alloy initiates to decrease at the same temperature. Such difference between the resistivity change in both alloys is ascribed to the fact that the ordering process from thermally disordered state to orderd state is different between both alloys.departmental bulletin pape

    Control of Vehicle Suspension Using Neural Network

    application/pdfHolographic neural network, which is new algorithm of neural network, is applied to the control of a vehicle suspension. For the simplified suspension model, using the feedback gain obtained from the optimal control theory, the equation of motion is solved by Runge-Kutta method. The displacement, velocity and control force obtained is adopted as training data for neural network. For simulation the road displacement is assumed to be sinusoidal and its frequency is changed from 1.0Hz to 4.0Hz by 0.1Hz intervals. As the trained network is tested, the results for the road frequency not contained in the training data agree well with the results obtained from the optimal control theory.departmental bulletin pape
