A Study of Visualization Method for Learning of Entropy
application/pdfThe idea of entropy was introdured by Clausius in 1850 for the new thermodynamic property of substances, and the new defurition of entropy was developed by Boltzmann and others in the field of statistical mechanics. In twentieth century, entropy has been extended to the economics theory, information theory, and others, but the role and meaning of entropy is same in points of showing the change from equilibrium state, the stability and the probability of observing state. Even though entropy is used in many fields of science, it is not easy for students to understand entropy visually. This paper deals with the development of the educational multimedia applications on learning of entropy. We discuss on several defurition of measurable distance between particles, and on the visuafuation of change of entropy.departmental bulletin pape
Thermoelectric Effect in a Magnetic Field
application/pdfThe heat flow in an electric field and a magnetic field perpendicular to it is discussed. The response to an impulse electric field is analyzed instead of a static electric field. This method clarifies some quantum mechanical aspects of the problem, which is difficult to see in a static electric field. In most cases, the semi-classical theory is valid. This result intensifies the importance of Landau diamagnetism expected to lead to a significant thermoelectric effect. In some cases of low temperature such that the relevant phonons are not excited, the relaxation is forbidden not only for excited states having lower energy than in equilibrium but also for the whole electron system owing to Fermi statistics.departmental bulletin pape
Compahson between Electrical Resistivity Changes Obtained by Rossiter's and Experimental Equations during Heating Cu-15at.%Pt Alloys
application/pdfThe changes in electrical resistivity during continuous heating of Cu-15at.%Pt alloys with an Li2 type structure, annealed at various temperatures and immediately quenched, are carefully examined; the relationships between the residual resistivity and the temperature coefficient of resistivity and the order parameter deduced from differential scanning calorimetory are experimentally investigated, and an experimental equation which can deduce changes in electrical resistivity during continuous heating is proposed. Also, the electrical resistivity curves calculated using the experimental equation are compared with those calculated using Rossiter's equation and obtained by the electrical measurement. The results reveal that the resistivity curves calculated using the experimental equation obtained are generally in good agreement with the results of electrical measurement but the value of the resistivity ratio calculated using Rossiter's equation becomes considerably lower than that of the experimental curve as the temperature increases.departmental bulletin pape
Writing Motion Recognition Using Neuml Networks
application/pdfThere have been introduced some human interfaces in the past for partially sighted or blind person regardless of requiring its performance with reasonable price. We proposed a guide system to help handicapped persons to control elevator as a human aid. In our system, it recognizes a motion of hand writing as a gesture in the elevator based on neural networks. All we need to build up this system are a personal computer and a low priced web・camera. This paper describes an application of writing gesture for handicapped person using simple, but not problem oriented algorithms in a sense. Our experiments result in the recognition rate of roughly 90% in a limited 2 class classification and 40% in a limited 13 class classification. We have learned that our system doesn't give an appropriate response of recognition rate with increasing the number of classes, which must be improved in our future experiments.departmental bulletin pape
The Image Response Characteristics of Plants in the Near Infrared Wavelength Region
application/pdfThe variety of plants exist on the earth. Although the green plants play the important role on the optical reaction (photosynthesis) which gives the terrestrial origin of the oxygen indispensable to the life, it is not well known what optical reactions exist in fact. In this paper,Firstly the response characteristics of the various vegetables is shown. Secondly the chlorophyll fluorescence in the 685nm and 740nm wavelength region which is excited by the Ar blue laser (λ=488nm) is shown and the image of the red and near infrared fluorescence is presented as well. Furthermore, the fluorescent characteristies of plants due to the environmental stresses such as the water, NaCl, temperature and pollution gases, is discussed from the standpoint of the global environmental problem.departmental bulletin pape

Integrated Online Sign Detection Using Writing Stroke and Writing Pressure
application/pdfIn the field of user detection, many detection methods using biometrics attracts are reported in recent years. We reported an online sign detection system using writing stroke and writing pressure. Our system is improved to be able to distinguish similar online sign form using differences of the number of writing strokes. In this paper, we investigate better relationship between writing stroke and writing pressure for sign detection.Im proving our user detection system based on these considerations, user detection performances were evaluated. From our evaluation results, proposed method correctly detected registrants and non-registrants. Between Noh and Kyogen: The Heart That Dances and the Heart That Does Not Dance, Part Two
application/pdfFollowing the discussion in Part One which looked at varying degrees of Noh and Kyogen dance starting with a situational dance followed by a theatrical dance that delineates the character's state of mind, we will continue with the examination of the third group of dance--a theatrical dance that sublimates the motif of a play, with a focus on Noh's pure dance. It will be followed by the main discussion of the treatise: The heart that does not dance. We will clarify the relationship between the state of mind of Noh's main character and the varying degrees of dance elements adopted in a play. Ball Throw Simulation in Game
application/pdfIn this paper, we propose a simulation method of a ball throwing in baseball. It is considered that a ball is thrown with arbitrary initial velocity and angular velocity. The velocity and angular velocity are dumped by air viscosity. The lifting power of a ball is expressed by the vector product between its velocity and angular velocity. A simulation program is constructed by C++ compiler. Several simulation results are presented. The proposed method is applied to a ball throwing game.departmental bulletin pape
