Numerical Flow Calculations with Orthogonal Body Fitted Curvilinear Coordinate System
application/pdfBody fitted curvilinear coordinate systems (usually abbreviated to BFC) are widely used for calculating the flow around arbitrary complex bodies, but generally they are not orthogonal. The accuracy deteriorates if the departure from orthogonality is too large, and orthogonal coordinate systems make the application of boundary conditions more straightforward. In this study, the method for generating the orthogonal BFC is suggested, and five kinds of BFC grids (one non-orthogonal and four orthogonal grids) are generated. The two-dimensional calculations were performed for the flow around a circular cylinder with these orthogonal and non-orthogonal grids. The calculation results were compared with the measurements. The validity of our method for generating the orthogonal BFC is confirmed.departmental bulletin pape
Fabrication of MgO thin films deposited by sputtering and their discharge properties
application/pdfMgO thin films have been deposited on quartz glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering using a MgO target in Ar/O2 mixture gas. The films were evaluated using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The columnar structure of cross sections for MgO films deposited by the sputtering gas of Ar/O2 mixture becomes clearly with O2 percentage increase. The breakdown voltages for electrodes of MgO films were measured under various Ne pressures by the V-Q Lissajous method. The breakdown voltages for MgO films deposited in Ar/O2 mixture decreases with O2 percentage increase.departmental bulletin pape
Development of crystallization and phase separation in borosilicate glass -Research works accomplished by using Electron Microscope System: XIX (1)-
application/pdfCrystallization of Pyrex(R) glass was investigated at 550-830℃. From the study of X-RD, it was found that heating Pyrex at 700°C for 36 h resulted in partial crystallization. From the study of SEM, the partial crystallization started by heating Pyrex at 650°C for 48 h (or 600°C for 70 h). The crystallization originated from nucleus at the surface, propagated into all directions, and saturated at the average radius size of 7μm. In these samples which underwent partial crystallization, phase separation (probably spinodal decomposition) was observed at the region where there is no crystal. Probably the phase separation is one of the cause of crystallization at temperatures lower than reported value.departmental bulletin pape
A Proposal for an Expression Method by Codifying Changes in Mouth Shape when Uttering Japanese and Its Evaluation
application/pdfWhen we do such things as lipreading, we look at the changes in mouth shape occurring during utterance. In recent years, some research into lipreading using information technology has been pursued. The researchers have proposed some expression methods for movement of lips and the periphery of the mouth. However, the methods they propose, optical-flow and measurement of minute changes in lip features, yield time-series numeric data about movement of lips and the periphery using utterance video images. Therefore, it is difficult to express movement of lips during utterance. Additionally, when we utter Japanese, there are some rules about the movement of the lips. In this paper, we propose a method by which changes in mouth shape when we utter Japanese are expressed as coding. We establish that mouth shapes of all Japanese articulation can be expressed by coding. We also establish that it is possible to generate coding changes in mouth shape using Japanese words phonetically.departmental bulletin pape
Echocardiographically Measured Ejection Fraction Still is a Strong Prognostic Tool in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease: a Long-term Retrospective Cohort Study --Ejection Fraction as a Prognosticator--
application/pdfBackground: Echocardiographically determined left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is a prognosticator of coronary artery disease (CAD). However, few studies have shown the superiority of LVEF to cineangiographic or cardiopulmonary exercise measurements as a long-term prognostic tool of CAD. Methods and Results: We retrospectively followed up 204 consecutive patients with CAD. All underwent echocardiography, cineangiography, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. There were 18 and 54 cardiac deaths during the first five-year and the entire 20-year follow-up period, respectively. Univariate Cox proportional regression analyses revealed that at 5 years from entry, the number of diseased vessels, LVEF, peak oxygen uptake (peak VO2), and the oxygen uptake efficiency slope (OUES), whilst at 20 years, age at entry, diagnosis (myocardial infarction), number of diseased vessels, LVEF, peak VO2, OUES, and the VE/VCO2 regression slope were proved to be significant prognosticators. However, multivariate Cox regression model revealed that only LVEF and OUES, and LVEF and peak VO2 were independent prognosticators after 5 years and 20 years, respectively. Conclusion: Echocardiographically measured LVEF still is the most valid tool in evaluating long-term prognosis of patients with CAD.departmental bulletin pape
The Proposal about Water Seal CAN Loss Estimation Method of Canned Motor Pump's Design
application/pdfThis paper describes the canned motor of the representation rank of the shieldless pump of common liquids, such as water, oil, and a medical fluid. And the new method of measurement the eddy current loss of CAN in the partition for escape prevention of liquid is proposed. This is a very important theme as global envirorunent problems from now on. In the business world, these technical data is very impmtant technology. And the research and know-how are desired strongly. So, the simple CANLOSS measuring device which we devised is proposed here. This paper measured the CAN loss of integral-type pump motor.departmental bulletin pape
The simulation of the abnormal phenomenon of the ultrasonic motor of common disk type plezo-electric element bending traveling wave vibration
application/pdfConsideration of Mr. H.V.Barth of Russia is famous as an ultrasonic motor using the progressive wave ingredient by an oscillating phenomenon. Since Mr. Toshio Sashita announced the progressive wave type ultrasonic motor by bending wave motion, especially in 1983, research of an ultrasonic motor (USM) has changed from the advantage to the real appearance perfonned briskly. This paper performs the behavior of excitation by bending and progressive wave type ultrasonic motor's oscillating simulation of a piezo-electric element using with the simulation software "ATILA" that joint developed with NY.RPI, and succeeded more detail of mechanical motion of the progressive wave and the operational characteristics.departmental bulletin pape
ACTIVITY of GLOBAL COMMUNICATION LEARNING PROGRAM
application/pdfGlobal Communication Learning Program is an experiential English learning program opened to the students of all departments based on the notion that the acquirement of "global engineer" is indispensable for the engineers to be able to go out into the world from universities on the basis of overseas training courses which our university has so far paid much effort for and has attained fruitful outcomes, which as a result has made way for roughly three types of programs. They are; (1) Overseas training course: "Long-term Study Abroad," "Overseas English Training," and "Overseas Specialized Training" (2) Domestic training course: "Interchange Program accepting Students from Overseas Partnership Schools" (3) Intramural training course: "Innovation of English Conversation Class" establishing "free talk time" at International Center. The aim of these courses is to foster the students who are equipped not only with the ability to make "conversation" in English but also with the experience of "communication" in English as well as the understanding of foreign culture which forms the basis of mutual conversation. This document summarizes the outline and partial outcomes of these courses, predicts the effects expected from the continuation of these efforts and indicates the goal in the future.departmental bulletin pape
Processing of Experimental Waste Water of Laboratory using the Rice Bran
application/pdfThe processing using the rice bran of a waste water discharged in a laboratory experiment of analytical chemistry was examined. The rice bran showed a good pH buffer action for an acidic aqueous solution of pH2 which prepared the sulfuric acid. From the result of the EDX measurement, it was confirmed that the element of Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn and Pb which is included in the experiment waste water made chemisorption in the rice bran. From the result of an atomic absorption measurement, the proportion of adsorption of the Cr3+, Cu2+, Fe3+, Mn2+ and Pb2+ ion was 71, 83, 32, 32 and 46%, respectively. Though the selective adsorption character for 5 kinds of heavy metal ion was not recognized, there was the remarkable adsorption on Cr3+ and Cu2+ ion.departmental bulletin pape
