    Knowledge Discovery System based on a Temporal Query Language and the Genetic Algorithm

    application/pdfThis paper proposes a knowledge discovery system that aims to predict future behavior of time-series data. The points of this system are twofold. First, we develop a flexible query language, which is named temporal query language, TQL for short. Similar to the regular expression on the text strings, TQL can express a combination of patterns using temporal operators. Second, we develop a powerful data mining algorithm that is based on decision tree learning. The algorithm starts with a given set of patterns, which is called clues, and then express time-series data in terms of the clues. In order to make a better prediction, we develop a mechanism that improves the quality of the clues. The essential idea of the mechanism is based on the genetic algorithm.     Effect of substrate temperature and film thickness on the secondary electron coefficient of MgO thin film electrode by sputtering

    application/pdfMgO thin films were prepared on quartz glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering using a MgO target. The secondary electron emission coefficient for MgO thin films was examined in relation to substrate temperature and film thickness. The breakdown voltage for MgO thin films was measured by the V-Q Lissajous method. The determination of the secondary electron emission coefficient was based on the measured breakdown voltage and Townsend's breakdown criterion. It is found that the secondary electron emission coefficient has a maximum at the substrate temperature of about 500℃ and the film thickness of around 20nm.departmental bulletin pape

    application/pdfWe have investigated complex perovskite oxide ceramics with nominal composition of (Ba1-xCax)(Scv2Nbv2)03 (0.35 < X < 0.50). It has been confirmed that solid solutions could be prepared with whole range of x by continuous change in cubic lattice constant with x. However, impurities are easy to be included in the ceramic samples and it is very difficult to prepare single phase samples. Contrast of back scattered electron image reflects homogeneity for distribution of chemical composition. The back scattered electron images were observed for selected ceramic samples with the composition to obtain knowledge for phase generations in the samples.     application/pdfThis study examined about possibility of the ionic microphone, which works with RF discharge. RF discharge that is circuit configuration of harmonic oscillator produces plasma, and it moves at particle velocity of the sound wave. Consequently oscillation frequency deviation corresponds to the particle velocity of the sound wave. It was possible to obtain the audio signal, when the modulated signal was demodulated.     Polyomino Packing Models and Their Solutions for Engineering Layout Problems

    application/pdfIn this paper, the authors discuss optimization algorithms for engineering layout problems in industry, such as sheet metal design, VLSI floor plan design and so forth. We propose game-theoretic algorithms by constructing polyomino packing models for those problems. First of all, we showed effective performance of topological features for minimizing the layout area. Then, introducing layout constraints among individual pieces, the optimization algorithms were extended successfully without major changes in originals. A part of these results has been presented individually in society conferences or journals including this journal. In this paper, organizing the whole results, we construct a set of polyomino packing models as a general optimization algorithm and also, show its applicability for the varieties of actual layout problems.departmental bulletin pape

    Adiabatic circulation and thermal equilibrium

    application/pdfThe relation between the apparent stability of adiabatic circulation and thermal equilibrium is examined. The condition of both constant temperature and constant sum of chemical potential and gravitational potential implicitly includes the gravitational equilibrium. While no entropy change occurs with the transfer of a small portion of gas in adiabatic equilibrium, the transfer of an independent particle certainly causes the increase of entropy. The quantity of energy supply is calculated which is required to cause an adiabatic circulation under the boundary condition of initial isothe1mal equilibrium. Also the thermodynamic process is considered to cause reversibly an isothermal cil・culation under the boundary condition of initial adiabatic equilibrium. When the adiabatic equilibrium is attained it corresponds to the extremum of total energy. Stationary adiabatic circulation is kept with no additional energy supply.     Discharge properties of CVD diamond film electrodes

    application/pdfHot-filament chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of diamond was used to obtain polycrystalline diamond thin film electrodes on silicon substrates. Deposition was carried out using by a mixture of CH4/H2 gases through a heated reactor in which a hot tungsten filament was held near the substrates. The films were evaluated by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy. The breakdown voltages for electrodes of CVD diamond thin films were measured under various Ne pressure by V-Q Lissajous method.     Propositions for the Analysis of the Restraint of Harmonic Current of Universal Motors Based on the State Function Method

    application/pdfThis paper focuses on the restraint method of the 3rd harmonics current, in which close attention has been paid to the iron core shape of the universal motor for power vacuum cleaners. In this paper, the gap permeance, magnetic saturation of an iron core, and the influence that a slot ripple has on harmonic current were verified using FEM electromagnetism analysis. As the result, stator core shape proved quantitatively that a restraint of harmonic current has an effect.     Performance of virtual hand-model under virtual environments

    application/pdfOur experimental study evaluated the performance of virtual hand manipulation tasks in virtual environments. A virtual hand is a computer graphic (CG) model of the human-hand that represents the user's hand in 3D virtual space. There are two kinds of expression of human-hand for manipulating virtual objects displayed around the user. One is that the user manipulates virtual objects with user's hand. The other is that the user controls an virtual hand for manipulation. We carried out the experiments comparing the performance of these two methods of human-hand manipulation among three types of hand manipulation tasks. The experimental results showed that for pointing, grasping and positioning tasks virtual hand control is faster and more accurate than direct manipulation by user's hand.departmental bulletin pape
