Research trends of Task-Value and Learning Motivation: Focusing on field researches

    Get PDF
application/pdfPrevious researches have pointed out that the perceived Task-Value is related to learners' motivation to learn. And there are several review papers that summarize this finding, most of them are discussed from a conceptual aspect. In this paper, we review empirical studies on Task-Value that have shown the effectiveness of interventions to improve learning motivation, by methods of intervention. Specifically, these are methods that ”inform the usefulness of learning contents”, methods that ”make connections between the learning contents and their lives”, and other methods that are not classified in any of these categories. Then, we will show that they can be applied to educational practice, and finally, future prospects are discussed.departmental bulletin pape

The students tallied the results of their self-evaluation, analyzed the trends according to the academic year and modified the detailed items accordingly. It was found that in the actual implementation, feedback and counsel from instructors through interviews were effective and that modifications with consideration to social backgrounds were vital.departmental bulletin pape

Evaluation of antioxidant activity in vitro for aqueous extracts of Phellinus linteus and Fuscoporia obliqua mycelium

    Get PDF
application/pdfCancer is one of the causes of death and is increasing year by year in Japan. So, demands for functional food increase for health maintenance to prevent cancer. Mushroom such as Phellinus linteus and Fuscoporia obliqua are known to be functional foods with anti-carcinogenic action. Because the growth of the mycelium is faster than that of the fruit body of the mushroom, radical scavenging activity, leading to causes of cancer initiation, was measured with those mycelial extracts. Mycelia of Phellinus linteus and Fuscoporia obliqua were cultured, and those aqueous extracts were prepared. As a result, it was found that Phellinus linteus mycelium had a higher antioxidant active ability than Fuscoporia obliqua mycelium. However, it was also found that the antioxidant active of those fruit body extracts was higher than those of mycelia extracts.departmental bulletin pape

Development of Yeast Two Hybrid system for screening of apoptosis-inducing anti-tumor reagent

    Get PDF
application/pdfApoptosis is a type of death that occur in multicellular organisms as a programmed cell death, and it is necessary to keep an individual development and homeostasis. If DNA is damaged in cells, the DNA will be repaired. However, if the irreparable damage occurs, the cells will induce apoptosis. One of the basic characteristics of cancer is having resistance to apoptosis, and the function of the apoptosis is suppressed in many kinds of cancer cells. Survivin is a member of the Inhibitor of Apoptosis Protein (IAP) family. It is hardly expressed in normal cells but is known to be highly expressed in many cancer cells. It is also known that Survivin interacts with HBXIP (Hepatitis B X-interacting protein) and the complex inhibit apoptosis in many tumor cells. Therefore, inhibition of interaction of Survivin and HBXIP will become a new target of apoptosis induction to tumor cells. In this study, we developed an evaluation system of interaction of Survivin-α and HBXIP based on a Two-Hybrid method. Survivin-α and HBXIP were respectively inserted into the pACTII and pAS1 vector, and the two vecters were introduce into Saccharomyces cerevisiae BY 3913. Growth of transformed yeast in 3-AT assey suggested that two vectors were introduced into the yeast and that Survivin and HBXIP were interacted. In addition, we developed an evaluation method of Survivin-HBXIP interaction by β-galactosidase activity of the Two-Hybrid system. Our method will be applicable to screening method for apoptosis inducer against tumor cells.departmental bulletin pape

Goodput analysis for lossy low-speed wireless networks with variable packet-sized packet transmission: Case of bursty bit-error prone links

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn general, packet sizes are not constant, i.e., variable, in the scenarios including that data units generated by various applications, i.e., messages, are multiplexed into a link and an application implements a protocol with a message segmentation function. However, almost existing performance models for wireless networks assume that the packet sizes are fixed. This paper proposes the analytical form of goodput for wireless networks where packets whose sizes are variable are lost due to bursty bit-errors and these lost packets are recovered by a stop-and-wait protocol. Furthermore, we apply this analytical form of goodput to the lossy low-speed wireless networks during message segmentation. For a simple scenario where fixed-sized messages are transferred using IPv6 over LoRaWANs, we show that the larger mean bit-error burst length yields higher goodput under the same mean bit-error rate.departmental bulletin pape

A Review of Language Learning Using Authentic Audiovisual Materials in Foreign Language Classrooms

    Get PDF
application/pdfMany researchers have reported the positive effects of audiovisual materials on language learning, and their use in language teaching has broadened the possibilities of learning online. However, they have not looked at the scope of using authentic materials in learning a foreign language and its effects on learners' critical thinking abilities. The primary purpose of this study is to suggest that such materials are ideal for learning a foreign language online. The study examines the theoretical justification for using authentic language materials in foreign language teaching and goes on to show that it could further strengthen learners’ critical thinking skills, which are crucial in developing language abilities, by employing different leaning applications.departmental bulletin pape

Distribution of the neutron stars around the Milky Way Galaxy

application/pdfWe investigate position and characteristic age of the observed neutron stars listed in the ATNF pulsar catalogue, finding a stream structure composed of neutron stars. The neutron star stream extends to the galactic halo and surrounds the galactic plane in analogy with the stellar streams. The neutron stars included in the stream are found to be relatively young, typically less than 107 years old. It is also found that neutron stars that are older than 1010 years are mainly located at the outer edge of the Milky Way Galaxy.departmental bulletin pape

The International Theory of Thomas Hobbes : Interpreted by Hedley Bull

    Get PDF
application/pdfThis essay aims to understand Thomas Hobbes’ international theory more clearly by referring to the interpretation of Hobbes by Hedley Bull (1932-1985), who is an influential British political scientist today. It should be noted that Bull derives an international theory based on realpolitik from Hobbes’ political thought. As Bull points out, Hobbes regarded the nation states as political entities that have neither common power nor common rule, thus far from reaching peaceful coexistence. From this premise, Bull tries to demonstrate that Hobbesian nation states will have to compete with each other to secure their self-preservation in international politics. Though these interpretations of Hobbes have frequently been criticized, modern nation states still seem to play important roles particularly when we are faced with discord, for example, in political relations between China and U.S.A., or a politically shocking incident in Europe such as Brexit.departmental bulletin pape

Improving the performance of Depression CAD by using feature selection methods and optimizing system configuration

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe number of subjects with depression in Japan has been increasing and the number of medical examinees has also been increasing. Therefore, more appropriate diagnosis is required. However, the diagnosis of depression and other mental disorders has not been made using objective indicators such as biomarkers, and the accuracy of the diagnosis has been questioned. Therefore, we are developing a system for calculating the confidence of depression to help physicians to make a diagnosis. To achieve a higher accuracy than the conventional discrimination accuracy, we optimized the program's configuration by adding a voice classifier and using Leave-one-out cross-validation etc. Also, we performed feature selection using 18 feature selection methods and extraction of the optimal model using a brute force algorithm of feature combinations. As a result, the discrimination accuracies of 90 %, 95 %, and 100 % for male, female, and mixed-sex data were achieved, respectively, which is higher than the conventional accuracy of 83 %.departmental bulletin pape
