Payload size to maximize goodput for lossy low-speed wireless networks: Case of timeout value exceeding round trip time
application/pdfIn this paper, we discuss several analytical methods to obtain payload size which maximizes goodput for lossy low-speed wireless networks in case of timeout value exceeding round trip time. We show that the values obtained from an approximate model where packet corruption probability is approximately expressed by an exponential function meet well with those from an exact model, and the values obtained from an approximate closed-form yield a large error.departmental bulletin pape
Students’ Acceptance of Distance Learning under COVID-19
application/pdfAlthough the pandemic of COVID-19 accelerates the use distance learning in higher educational institutions, that does not necessarily mean students accept distance learning positively. In order to utilize distance learning proactively, this study tries to clarify hinderances of distance learning and how they affect intention to use distance learning. By using the structural equation modeling, we identify that anxiety to quality of education negatively affects perceived usefulness of distance learning and that discontent to learning environment, anxiety of internet connectivity and health anxiety caused by distance learning positively affect anxiety of quality of education. These findings will be beneficial when higher educational institutions improve students’ acceptance of distance learning under COVID-19.departmental bulletin pape
Practical Consideration of Molecular Biological Education Suited for Japanese Highschools
application/pdfWhilst molecular biological articles have been extensively described in high school-level textbook guidelined by MEXT, it is, however, commonly deemed to be practically difficult to perform molecular biological experiments in high schools. We herein report an ingenious protocol for molecular biological experiments best suitable for biology classes in Japanese high schools, comprising DNA extraction, DNA detection, PCR and agarose electrophoresis, all of which can be completed substantially within no more than two classes. In order to exploit the protocol, we cautiously cared the following points: sets of the experiments can be accomplished in typical period in high schools (50 minutes); and most of the listed experiments can be performed in standard high school facilities. For DNA extraction, “silica monolith” spin column (Animos Co. Ltd.) was employed, much facilitating and shortening the procedure (completed within ~10 minutes). DNA from rice powder (O. sativa) and flour (T. aestivum) was successfully detected by means of agarose electrophoresis, followed by PCR amplification by Taq polymerase reaction mixture (Quick Taq® HS DyeMix; Toyobo Co. Ltd.), targeted for RuBisCO small subunit gene through O. sativa specific primers. The amplification was confirmed by agarose electrophoresis, non-hazardously stained by Midori Green (Nippon Genetics Co. Ltd.). To further develop the experimental protocol, it is thought to be necessary not only to supply the equipment required for routine molecular biological experiments in the high schools, but also to manufacture either illustrated or visualised protocol, expecting for future facilitation of molecular biological learning in high schools.departmental bulletin pape
A review of children's difficulty of living
application/pdfThis study reviewed the literature to clarify children’s difficulty of living.Consequently, we discovered that childhood poverty, domestic maltreatment, and bullying significantly contributed to children’s difficulty of living. In addition, a retrospective study of mental disorder, mental problems, and antisocial behavior revealed that children were affected by difficulty of living.
Therefore, the development of tools that objectively evaluate children’s difficulty of living and provide support to alleviate it is recommended. In addition, the difficulty of living of children was also thought to be helped by encouraging early treatment for mental disorder and promoting child-rearing support.departmental bulletin pape

Note on parametrization of fourth-order elliptic curves and Landen transformations
application/pdfParametrization (Uniformization) of elliptic curves with fourth-order polynomials in the right-hand side, Y2 = X4 − h2X2 − h3X − h4, by elliptic functions is revisited. Various seemingly different but equivalent expressions for the parametrizing function are presented, and if possible, their derivations are provided in several ways. In particular, the proofs based on Weierstrass’s and Jacobi’s functions are constructed independently and hence closed in itself. The reduction to the birationally equivalent elliptic curves with the resolvent cubic in the right-hand side, the integration formulae, the reduction to the Legendre elliptic curves whose fourth-order polynomial is biquadratic, are also discussed. In derivation based on the Weierstrass theory, the starting point is the expression given by Akhiezer. To discuss the transformations specific to the Legendre case, we provide the first and second order transformation formulae for σ1, σ2, and σ3 functions, which reflect their triality. In derivation based on the Jacobi theory, we discuss S4 symmetry and related formulae arising from permutation of the four roots and provide a simplified proof for the Landen transformation based on the coefficient matching of the differential equation.departmental bulletin pape
Numerical scheme based on the implicit Runge–Kutta method and spectral method for calculating nonlinear hyperbolic evolution equations
application/pdfNumerical scheme for nonlinear hyperbolic evolution equations is made based on the implicit Runge–Kutta method and the Fourier spectral method. The detail discretization processes are discussed in case of one-dimensional Klein-Gordon equations. In conclusion, a numerical scheme with the third-order accuracy is presented. The order of total calculation cost is equal to O(N log2 N). As benchmark results, the relation between the numerical precision and the discretization unit size is demonstrated.departmental bulletin pape
COVID-19 Student learning by changing the form maternal nursing practice under the circumstances
application/pdfThe purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics of "learning" from the "learning" reports of students in maternal nursing practice with a modified form of practice under the COVID-19 situation. And text mining was used for its analysis. As a result, the characteristics of the "learning" in the "clinical
practice" were specific care contents. In addition, the viewpoint of "safe and secure childcare environment" was extracted only in "clinical practice. In the "hybrid practice", "support for individual strengths" and "wellness" were extracted, and in the "on-campus practice", "self-affirmation" and "support
for needs" were extracted as "learning". These findings suggest that in any form of practical training, the involvement of teachers who take a comprehensive view of the mother and child and make meaning of their actions will result in more effective learning in maternal nursing practice.departmental bulletin pape
Characteristics of changes of motor function with aging in elderly women
application/pdfThe purpose of this study was to investigate the age-related changes in motor function, attentional function, and physical characteristics. 769 females over the age of 50 years were recruited as participants. Participants were grouped into 6 age brackets of 50-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80 or older. Skeletal muscle mass, walking speed, ground-reaction force in sit-to-stand movement from a chair, were measured. The bone area ratio of the calcaneus was evaluated quantitative ultrasound. Attentional function was evaluated by Stroop test.
Skeletal muscle mass was significantly reduced in the 3 groups aged 70 years and older compared to the 50-59 group. The bone area ratio decreased significantly in the 4 groups aged 65 and over. Ground-reaction force in sit-to-stand movement was significantly reduced in the two groups aged 75 and over compared to the 50-59 group. Reaction time in the Stroop test was significantly different in all 5 groups aged 60 years and older compared to the 50-59 group, and the rate of change was the largest from the group 50-59 to the group aged 80 years or older. Furthermore, since a significant correlation was found between walking speed and reaction time in the Stroop test, it is considered that attentional function evaluation is an effective index for predicting deterioration of walking function. It is desirable to include attentional function evaluation in addition to motor function in the evaluation of activities of daily living ability for the elderly.departmental bulletin pape
