Rohelise mõtteviisi ja sotsiaalse vastutuse roll kohabrändi väärtuse kujunemises tehnoloogiaettevõtete vaatenurgast
Purpose - The aim of this study is to analyze the role of green mindset and social responsibility in shaping place brand value from the perspective of technology companies.
Design/methodology/approach - This research is focused on qualitative approach. Based on the literature review, questions were formulated for structured interviews conducted with various technology companies operating in different business parks and office buildings in Estonia.
Findings - Although green values and CSR are broadly recognized by Estonian technology companies, they play a secondary role in location decisions unless tied to concrete advantages like cost-efficiency or investor alignment. Their impact is shaped by organizational size, maturity and sector, highlighting the need for integration with functional values.
Research limitations/implications - The study's limitations and findings underscore that while it explores the appeal of a place brand to technology sector firms and the significance of a green and sustainable mindset, it does not calculate the brand's monetary value. Moreover, the restricted sample size, confined to companies within Estonia, may impact the generalizability of the results.
Originality/value - This study fills an important gap by addressing the topic of place branding and brand value through the perspective of the technology sector and in the context of a green and sustainable mindset. It opens up new discussions and research avenues, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the role of these factors in shaping place branding and supporting sustainable urban development
Kolmandas peatükis on vaatluse all „uurijate märkmed“ – tekstid, kus jutustajaks on uurija või prokurör. Peatükis vaetakse mitme massikirjanduse autori loomingut (P. A. Stepanov, N. M. Sokolovski, A. A. Škljarevski jt), kus kujutatakse uurijat uue aja kangelasena, kelle ülesandeks on faktide tõlgendamine ja õigluse taastamine.
Neljandas peatükis analüüsitakse jälitusproosa kangelastüüpe: uurijad, salapolitseinikud ja heatahtlikud filantroobid. Siin vaadeldakse, kuidas eri autorid (sh ka A. P. Tšehhov) loovad juurdlevaid tegelastüüpe lääne eeskujude (nt E. Gaboriau) ja kohaliku konteksti pingeväljas.
Töös käsitletakse umbes sadat kriminaalromaani, jutustust ja novelli, millest suurem osa on siiani jäänud uurijate tähelepanuta. Seeläbi täidab väitekiri olulise tühimiku 19. saj vene massikirjanduse uurimises ning esitab uue mudeli selle arenguetappide mõtestamiseks. This doctoral thesis explores the evolution of Russian crime fiction between 1860 and 1890, focusing on its generic, cultural, and social characteristics. The aim is to reconstruct the internal logic of early Russian crime prose and situate it within a broader international context. The study employs literary-historical, narratological, and sociological approaches to analyze how the genre evolved in dialogue with legal reforms, the media landscape, and the poetics of realism.
The Introduction addresses the genre's Western European background, examining the evolution of Roman-feuilleton and Anglo-American detective fiction and their impact on Russia. Special attention is given to the unique starting point of Russian crime prose: thick literary journals (tolstye zhurnaly), which shaped the genre’s early identity as a socially critical and psychologically nuanced form of realist writing.
Chapter One investigates the emergence of crime themes in 1840s literature and analyzes early proto-crime texts that engage with justice, legal reform, and the moral dimensions of wrongdoing. It also examines the role of censorship and the influence of Western literary models.
Chapter Two traces the shift from urban “physiologies” to ethnographic sketches, showing how depictions of crime moved from the city to rural and carceral settings. It emphasizes the interplay between environment and narrative form.
Chapter Three focuses on “investigator’s notes” – texts narrated by legal officials such as judicial investigators. It explores how authors like P. A. Stepanov and N. M. Sokolovsky framed the investigator as a new protagonist tasked with interpreting signs and restoring justice.
Chapter Four analyzes the emergence of other investigative hero types – police detectives and benevolent philanthropists – comparing them with their Western counterparts (e.g. Gaboriau’s Lecoq) and highlighting local adaptations in works by A. A. Shklyarevsky, A. P. Chekhov, and others.
The study draws on approximately one hundred novels, novellas, short stories, and sketches, most of which have remained outside the scope of scholarly attention. By mapping this largely unexamined corpus, the dissertation fills a major gap in the study of 19th-century Russian popular literature and offers a new model for understanding its genre dynamics and cultural significance.https://www.ester.ee/record=b575495

Making Identity Count: Estonia 2000
This report analyses the discursive construction of Estonian national identity in the year 2000, drawing from both elite and mass perspectives. While shared ideals – such as cultural heritage, state sovereignty, responsible governance, and social cohesion – formed common ground, crucial divergences emerged. Elite discourse emphasised patriotism, national culture, and modernisation, whereas popular narratives were more ambivalent, particularly towards nationalism and the political elite. National identity was framed through historical continuity, cultural institutions, language preservation, and symbolic markers such as the national currency (the kroon). Integration debates centred on concerns regarding the Russophone minority and the impact of EU accession on sovereignty and agriculture. Northern Europe, especially Finland and Sweden, was viewed as a normative reference. The legacy of the Soviet Union, imperial Russia, and Baltic Germans remained central to historical self-understanding. The Estonian language, education, and moral values were seen as essential to continued national survival. Overall, identity discourse revealed a dual dynamic: on the one hand, a forward-looking aspiration to become a typical meritocratic, neoliberal market-state; on the other, lingering anxieties tied to the hardships of economic transition, Estonian emigration to the West, persistent poverty, and growing societal insecurity
Esimene periood kestis umbkaudu 1905. aasta revolutsioonini, teine I maailmasõja alguseni ning kolmas uuritud perioodi lõpuni. Juudi vähemust kujutati käsitletud aastate jooksul kõige positiivsemas võtmes teisel perioodil, aastate 1905 ja 1914 vahel. Tähtsaks seda mõjutanud faktoriks paistavad olevat poliitilised ühishuvid. Maailmasõja alguse järel muutus juudi vähemuse kuvand ajalehes Postimees eelnevast perioodist negatiivsemaks
