Drawing Blue Lines - What can Constraint Grammar do for GEC?
This paper presents the application of rule-based methods for Grammatical Error Correction (GEC) across multiple low-resource languages. We describe new functionality using the Constraint Grammar (CG) formalism, designed for detecting and correcting different types of complex grammatical errors in a range of morphologically complex languages. These errors require transformations such as reordering, word additions/deletions, and alternative choices for multiword suggestions. New perspectives are gained from end-to-end-testing – this work aims to clarify the relationship between the command-line interface used by developers and the user interfaces of our grammar checker plug-in for common word processors. We discuss challenges and solutions in correcting complex errors, with examples from languages like Lule Sámi, Irish, and Greenlandic, enabling linguists to adapt these methods in order to provide accurate and context-aware proofing tools for their own languages in mainstream word processors like Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice
Making Identity Count: Estonia 1995
In 1995, hegemonic identity discourses were centred on the market economy and nationalism. Neoliberal market hegemony was primarily (re)produced by elites and remained unchallenged by popular discourses, which generally took market reasoning and meritocratic justice for granted. Instead, public concerns focused on increasing social status stratification and the welfare state, with democracy often assessed on the basis of socio-economic outcomes rather than formal parliamentary institutions and being identified more strongly than the elite with traditions, conservative values and rural life.
Nationalism functioned as a true ‘collective identity’, shared and positively valued by both elites and the masses. In particular, ethnic and cultural nationalism served as a filter through which contemporary and past periods of independence, as well as the most relevant historic Others (Imperial Russia and Baltic Germans), were evaluated
SweClinEval: A Benchmark for Swedish Clinical Natural Language Processing
The lack of benchmarks in certain domains and for certain languages makes it difficult to track progress regarding the state-of-the-art of NLP in those areas, potentially impeding progress in important, specialized domains. Here, we introduce the first Swedish benchmark for clinical NLP: _SweClinEval_. The first iteration of the benchmark consists of six clinical NLP tasks, encompassing both document-level classification and named entity recognition tasks, with real clinical data. We evaluate nine different encoder models, both Swedish and multilingual. The results show that domain-adapted models outperform generic models on sequence-level classification tasks, while certain larger generic models outperform the clinical models on named entity recognition tasks. We describe how the benchmark can be managed despite limited possibilities to share sensitive clinical data, and discuss plans for extending the benchmark in future iterations

Nihe riimipoeetikas : Betti Alveri varane ja hiline luule
Betti Alveri riimipoeetika on nõtkelt mitmetahuline.
Tulemuste tähendust avatakse Betti Alveri riimipoeetika kontekstis. Kolmandas osas asetatakse statistilise analüüsi tulemusel kogutud andmed vaadeldud teostest varasemate ja hilisemate riimipraktikate konteksti. Neljas osa keskendub riimide strukturaal-semantilisele kvalitatiivsele analüüsile. Viimase osa moodustab kokkuvõte.https://www.ester.ee/record=b5753047*es
