[EN] The Promela programming language enables the modelling of interactions in distributed systems and is based on the execution of non-deterministic programs and concurrent processes that can communicate through both asynchronous and synchronous channels. Analysing the behaviour of such programs is of particular interest, since the presence of concurrency and communication between simultaneous processes may lead to multiple different executions that make it difficult to use other techniques such as testing. To address this, a formal semantics has been defined to model such behaviour and to support static analysis. This Master Thesis presents the development of a tool designed to facilitate static analysis based on the proposed formal semantics. The tool enables the generation of the control flow graph of a Promela code fragment, providing support for understanding the possible executions and paths that the program execution may follow.Pousa Barros, G. Enhancing early-phase project interoperability between BIM and energy simulation models through parametric design tools

    No full text
[EN] In light of climate change, significant updates are being applied to the energy efficiency of both new and existing buildings. The ‘Energy Efficiency First’ principle, advocated by the European Union, stress the necessity of integrating energy-efficient solutions at the heart of the design and implementation processes. This emphasizes integrating energy-efficient strategies from the start, recognizing that early design decisions significantly impact CO2 emissions reduction over a building's lifecycle. However, the limited interoperability between Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Building Energy Model (BEM) often postpones energy consumption calculations to later project stages, hindering the inclusion of early passive design strategies that could markedly lower energy usage. To facilitate early-stage energy simulations, a methodology promoting seamless BIM-BEM information exchange via middleware tools is essential. Integrating Rhinoceros 3D/Grasshopper 3D with Autodesk Revit through Rhinoinside, and coupling OpenStudio/EnergyPlus with Grasshopper 3D via LadyBug Tools, allows Grasshopper 3D to act as a bridge between BIM and BEM. This process begins with importing and verifying the BIM model's early-stage data—geometry of spaces, windows, and other elements—into Grasshopper 3D. Then, using Ladybug Tools, environmental parameters are established, defining the properties of building components. Honeybee facilitates direct connections to OpenStudio and EnergyPlus for advanced energy calculations, aiding in optimizing HVAC systems and overall energy performance. This approach establishes a robust workflow between BIM and BEM, enhancing software interoperability, supporting early design evaluations, and allowing for the validation of passive design strategies. It aligns with the 'energy efficiency first' principle, supporting design decisions that prioritize energy efficiency from the outset, enabling precise simulations of solar radiation, energy consumption, and emissions, and fostering a foundation in passive design measures. [EN] Automatic segmentation of ultrasound images remains a challenging task due to the inherent noise of the modality, anatomical variability, and operator dependency during image acquisition. This work investigates the use of hybrid architectures that combine U-Net based convolutional neural networks with Transformer based global attention mechanisms, aiming to improve the accuracy and robustness of automatic musculoskeletal ultrasound segmentation. A clinical dataset composed of 233 anterior thigh region ultrasound images acquired in different imaging planes is used to train and compare several advance architectures through crossvalidation strategies. The results show that the incorporation of long-range spatial dependencies enables a more reliable identification of complex muscular structures and thin membranes, reducing confusion with acoustic noise. Among the evaluated models, RTUNet stands out as the most balanced solution, achieving performance comparable to more complex architectures while requiring a significantly lower computational cost, making it a suitable candidate for integration into the image analysis platform of Dawako Medtech S.L. and for future deployment in real clinical environments. [EN] The project focuses on addressing the current reality of the Barrio de la Fama in Murcia, an area that was originally upmarket but today faces issues related to drugs and marginalisation despite its central location. My proposal centres on the urban regeneration of the neighbourhood by improving key aspects such as the incorporation of new green spaces, urban facilities, and services that meet the needs of the community. Additionally, a detailed analysis of the neighbourhood's problems has been carried out, leading to the development of a comprehensive action plan that includes the proposal for an inclusive housing building for young people. This project aims not only to address the lack of access to housing but also to combat loneliness and act as a catalyst for urban revitalisation. The key to achieving this is to attract a young population to the neighbourhood by offering a housing model with shared spaces designed to encourage community living. The building will feature a range of shared facilities, including co-working areas, a gym, communal living rooms, and large green spaces, all of which will facilitate social interaction and enhance residents' quality of life. Situated in a strategic location, just a few minutes' walk from the University of Murcia, opposite a school, and close to green areas, this building aspires to become a reference point within the neighbourhood, driving its transformation into a more liveable, safe, and dynamic environment.

    No full text
[EN] Last Planner System (LPS) is a methodology that helps systematize the planning and control of construction performance. A major driver for increasing the use of LPS in construction is the reduction of variability and increased productivity. LPS shifts the focus from planning to a collaborative team of professionals. However, there are gaps related to the accuracy of its implementation and the reliability of its promises, which have not been adequately addressed in previous studies, especially in the specific case of single-family homes. This doctoral thesis is based on a sample of 20 single-family homes. It analyzes how implementing the LPS in six of them could improve compliance with cost and time indicators. The research design consists of the following stages: first, an initial analysis of the sample of 20 projects using descriptive statistics, nonparametric inferential statistics, and Spearman's correlation; second, a Qualitative Comparative Analysis of the 20 projects; and, finally, a multiple case study with the six projects in the sample that have applied the LPS. Projects where LPS was implemented showed a higher probability of success, especially in terms of deadline compliance. The application of Lean Design Management practices before the start of construction also improved subsequent LPS implementation. Furthermore, the adoption of intermediate planning produced improved Percentage of Plan Completed values. During the different construction phases, the use of LPS improved short-term planning as the work progressed. However, this level of LPS implementation was not maintained throughout the entire construction process. When LPS did not perform as expected, fears and insecurities arose among construction stakeholders, and old traditional management roles were resumed. An additional factor that could have had a negative influence was the use of this system as a standalone methodology without a broader understanding of the Lean Construction philosophy. Furthermore, among the projects studied, it was found that the combination of two conditions was sufficient to minimize both cost and schedule deviations: the implementation of the LPS itself and having a foreman with more than 15 years of experience. However, it was found that the experience of the construction manager did not significantly influence the results (unlike that of the foreman) and was overshadowed by the two previous conditions. Finally, it is worth highlighting that the results obtained were analyzed considering certain limitations derived from both the implementation of the LPS itself and the strategic nature of construction management. Since no research is completely done, future lines of research are proposed that focus on improving the implementation and adjustment of the LPS to different contexts.Casas Rico, JE. (2026). Electrochemical removal of polystyrene nanoplastics in a filter-press reactor using modified Ti-felt anodes: comparison of flow-through and flow-by configurations

    No full text
[EN] Ti-felt anodes, with high surface area, have been used as supports of Pt and SnO2-Sb-Pt electrocatalysts. Anodes have been applied in a filter-press electrochemical reactor for the electrooxidation of polystyrene nanoplastics (NPs) (100 mg·L¿1). Two types of configurations have been used. In the first, the solution with NPs flows through the anode, taking advantage of its porosity (acting as a sort of membrane) to enhance the contact of NPs with the anode and the oxidative species generated. In the second configuration, the solution of NPs flows parallel to the anode, and the NPs flow parallel to it. Comparing both configurations at 25 mA·cm¿2, for the Tisingle bondPt anode, the flow-through configuration decreases energy consumption by ~7-foldand treatment time by ~15-fold when compared to the flow-by configuration. For Ti-SnO2-Sb-Pt anode, ratios of ~6.5-fold and ~ 13-fold were obtained, respectively. Moreover, the effect of the current density (50, 25, 12.5, and 5 mA·cm¿2) was studied. For the Tisingle bondPt electrode, a treatment time of only 40 min was achieved at a current density of 25 mA·cm¿2 with the F-T configuration, with a faradaic efficiency of 62.09%, and electrochemical energy per order (EEO) of21.91 kW·h·m¿3·order¿1. In the case of the Fsingle bondB configuration at 25 mA·cm¿2the treatment time increases until 600 min, with a faradaic efficiency of 8.27% and EEO of 156.57 kW·h·m¿3·order¿1.This research is part of the Spanish R + D + i contract TED2021-130905B-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and by the European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR as well as the Red E3Tech Plus: Proyecto Redes de Investigacion ¿ de la AEI Network E3Tech PLUS (RED2022-134552-T) project. Identification of abnormal conditions in induction motors from current spectrum images using a two-stage approach with progressive learning

    No full text
[EN] Background and objectives: This study presents a fault diagnosis system for induction machines based on a two-stage architecture using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). The aim is to improve fault identification by simplifying the classification process through sequential modeling. Methods: A dataset of 5404 images was generated from the Fourier spectra of current signals acquired from a test bench under five conditions: healthy machine, rotor asymmetry fault, broken rotor bar, race bearing fault, and ball bearing fault. A CNN based on the Visual Geometry Group (VGG) architecture was trained from scratch and then adapted using transfer learning. The classification strategy follows two steps: first, distinguishing healthy from faulty machines; then, identifying the specific fault type. Results: The system reached 96.5% accuracy in the first stage and 98.5% in the second. All main performance metrics (sensitivity, specificity, precision, F1-score) remained above 95%. The behavior of the models was examined using Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection (UMAP), which showed clearer separation between conditions in the latent space when using the sequential approach. In addition, Gradient-Weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) visualizations provided insights into the image regions influencing each decision, showing consistent focus on spectral areas related to each condition. Conclusions: The combination of image-based preprocessing, sequential classification, and model interpretation techniques leads to accurate predictions and helps to understand how the models behave. These features support its use in predictive maintenance tasks for industrial applications. The article is funded by the R+D+i project (PID2021-128013OB-I00) through the MCIN/AEI/10.13039/-501100011033 and ERDF A way of making Europe, as well as by Generalitat Valenciana, Spain (CIAICO/2022/042). Artistic Interventions: Rethinking Public Space through Critical Spatial Practices

    No full text
[EN] This study investigates the role of public art as a crucial urban element in public space by drawing attention to the immense societal impact contemporary artistic practices have as critical spatial practices. Since public art holds the power to improve current conditions as a critically engaged practice, public space is the site where one can view the effects of this interdisciplinary engagement of art, architecture, and urban design.Rendell underlines a specific kind of practice that she defines as “critical spatial practice” and points out that specific artworks produce critical spaces, especially site-specific art and public art where one pushes beyond the boundaries of the gallery, as it holds both critical and spatial values and has a unique capacity to transform spaces into sites of social critique (Rendell, 2006). Moreover, Mouffe sees public space as a site of conflict where different hegemonic ambitions clash without a chance for a final resolution and argues that critical artistic practices have a significant part in building resistance towards the established hegemony in this so-called “agonistic” understanding of public space (Mouffe, 2008).The study aims to approach public art as a phenomenon beyond aesthetic values and in its broad context of social, political, and economic issues. It is considered a way of making a counterhegemonic statement and taking control of the narrative of public space through participation and conflict. In this context, the political, social, and cultural meanings that emerge through the reconstruction of the narrative of the public sphere and their role in transforming society and space together with a critical attitude are presented through various cases. Finally, critical artistic practices are displayed as tools and sources of knowledge for taking authorship and rewriting the urban text through human interaction. References Mouffe, C. (2008).
