Towards the knowledge society: A definition, measurements, and limits
[EN] The transition from an industrial-based society to a knowledge-based society marks one of the most profound societal transformations of the modern era. This shift is driven by scientific progress, technological advancements, and innovation, thereby shaping economies and social structures. Despite the widespread use of the term ¿knowledge society,¿ its definition remains under debate, and its measurement poses significant challenges. This paper examines various perspectives on the Knowledge Society, and proposes a definition rooted in scientific and technological progress while acknowledging the role of ICT, globalisation, and education.
A comprehensive literature review and bibliometric analysis are conducted to assess dominant themes and trends in academic discourse. Furthermore, this study evaluates existing proxy indicators and proposes a novel framework to measure the progress of economies towards a Knowledge Society. Using data from international institutions, this paper analyses the global trends over the past fifty years and assesses the extent to which a fully-fledged Knowledge Society has been realised.
However, this transition is not without challenges. The Knowledge Society relies on highly skilled labour, which raises concerns regarding job displacement due to automation and artificial intelligence. Intellectual property regulations further complicate global knowledge dissemination. Moreover, ensuring that scientific progress aligns with sustainability goals is crucial when addressing ecological concerns such as e-waste and high energy consumption.
Ultimately, the Knowledge Society represents a paradigm shift with significant economic and social implications. Estudio de la extensión de la reverberación mediante difusores laberínticos utilizando simulaciones GA
[ES] En los espacios existentes en los que no es posible modificar el volumen (como salas de conciertos mal diseñadas o salas de ensayo musical de tamaño insuficiente), lograr tiempos de reverberación más largos supone un reto. Para abordar esta cuestión, Arau [1] ha propuesto los difusores laberínticos como medio para aumentar la trayectoria libre media y, en consecuencia, el tiempo de reverberación. Este concepto se ha estudiado más a fondo [2] y se ha aplicado con éxito en espacios seleccionados, especialmente en la «Tonhalle St. Gallen» y la «Sala de ensayos orquestales del Gran Teatro del Liceo», recibiendo comentarios positivos por parte de músicos y público. La idea de este estudio es investigar más a fondo este efecto mediante simulaciones de acústica geométrica (GA) para evaluar su impacto en diversos parámetros acústicos de la sala, teniendo en cuenta diferentes geometrías de difusores.[EN] In existing spaces where modifying the volume is not feasible (such as poorly designed concert halls or undersized music rehearsal rooms) achieving longer reverberation times presents a challenge. To address this, labyrinth diffusers have been proposed by Arau [1] as a means to increase the mean free path and, consequently, the reverberation time. This concept has been further studied [2] and successfully applied in select spaces, specially in Tonhalle St. Gallen and Orchestral Rehearsal Room of the Great Theatre of Liceu, receiving positive feedback from musicians and audience. Transformació de La Ricarda en un restaurant Km 0
[ES] La casa Gomis guarda una forma de habitar que no se grita, se sugiere. Este TFG parte de esa idea: transformar su interior en un restaurante de proximidad con producción integrada, sin alterar su
manera de estar en el paisaje. El objetivo no es sobrescribir su historia, sino continuarla desde otra mirada.
La propuesta nace de una experiencia directa: recorrer sus pasillos, escuchar sus vacíos, ver cómo la arquitectura dialoga con el exterior. Fue imposible no pensar en la comida como ritual, en el
cultivo como acto cotidiano, en el diseño como algo que puede abrazar todo eso. Pero también fue imposible ignorar el contexto actual: los aviones del aeropuerto rompen el aire a intervalos fijos. Ese ruido ya forma parte de la casa. Convertirlo en condición de diseño era necesario.
Desde ahí el proyecto traza un recorrido lógico: de la producción a la cocina, y de la cocina al comensal. Cada etapa tiene su lugar, cada espacio su lenguaje. Se trabajaba con materiales cercanos, con soluciones constructivas pensadas para reducir el impacto acústico, y con una distribución que permite que el interior respire a pesar del exterior.
Esta intervención se construye desde la investigación, la observación y el respeto. Propone una manera distinta de reactivar el patrimonio, sin heroísmos ni fórmulas cerradas. Solo atención, cuidado y decisión.[EN] The Gomis House preserves a way of inhabiting that is not proclaimed but suggested. This Final Degree Project starts from that idea: transforming its interior into a local restaurant with integrated production, without altering its way of being in the landscape. The aim is not to overwrite its history, but to continue it from a different perspective.
The proposal arises from direct experience: walking through its corridors, listening to its voids, seeing how the architecture dialogues with the exterior. It was impossible not to think of food as ritual, of cultivation as a daily act, of design as something that can embrace all of this. But it was also impossible to ignore the current context: the airplanes from the nearby airport break the air at regular intervals. That noise is already part of the house. Turning it into a design condition was necessary.
From there, the project traces a logical sequence: from production to the kitchen, and from the kitchen to the diner. Each stage has its place, each space its own language. The work relies on local materials, construction solutions designed to reduce acoustic impact, and a layout that allows the interior to breathe despite the exterior.
This intervention is built through research, observation, and respect. It proposes a different way of reactivating heritage, without heroics or closed formulas—only attention, care, and decision.Cocos, FA. (2025). A metaheuristic approach for the optimization of building structures
[EN] The objective of architecture and engineering cannot be limited only to the elaboration of projects that comply with the limitations of the problem to be solved. It is necessary to go further and choose, from among the multiple design proposals capable of meeting the requirements of the problem, those that comply to a greater extent with a set of suitability criteria (economic, environmental, sustainability, ...). The optimization of a building structure involves analysing a large number of possible structural configurations. The computational burden of these repeated analyses and the need to automate the process require specific calculation and validation tools and highly efficient computing environments. Desenvolupament d'un testbed LoRaWAN per analitzar el rendiment de xarxes amb topologies d'estrella i multisalt.
[ES] El presente proyecto propone analizar el rendimiento de dos arquitecturas de red, topología estrella y multisalto (LoRaWAN Relay), centrándose en las Clases B y C, para optimizar la comunicación en aplicaciones donde la recepción periódica o constante de datos es crítica. El objetivo es determinar su idoneidad para aplicaciones de telemetría en entornos remotos. Estudi i disseny de prototip modular industrialitzat 3D per a habitatges permanents en contextos postdesastre: estudi pilot a Chocó, Colòmbia
[ES] Este trabajo propone el diseño y evaluación de un sistema modular industrializado 3D para la construcción de viviendas permanentes como respuesta rápida ante desastres naturales en Colombia, tomando como caso piloto la región del Chocó. Este territorio, ubicado en la región Pacífica, ha sido uno de los más afectados por fenómenos como inundaciones recurrentes, deslizamientos de tierra por su régimen de lluvias extremo y la planicie de inundación de los ríos Atrato, San Juan y Baudó, lo que ha generado la destrucción de miles de viviendas y el desplazamiento de comunidades enteras a lo largo del tiempo.
La propuesta se fundamenta en:
- El análisis del riesgo y vulnerabilidad territorial en el Chocó.
- El marco normativo colombiano (NSR-10, Minvivienda).
- Experiencias internacionales en vivienda modular aplicada en contextos de desastre.
- El sistema busca ser replicable y escalable en otras regiones del país con alta vulnerabilidad ante fenómenos naturales.[EN] This work proposes the design and evaluation of a 3D industrialized modular system for the construction of permanent housing as a rapid response to natural disasters in Colombia, using the Chocó region as a pilot case. This territory, located in the Pacific region, has been one of the most affected by phenomena such as recurrent flooding and landslides due to its extreme rainfall patterns and the floodplain of the Atrato, San Juan, and Baudó rivers, which has led to the destruction of thousands of homes and the displacement of entire communities over time.

Detecció de fraus en transaccions FinTech mitjançant intel·ligència artificial
[ES] El incremento de fraudes financieros en plataformas FinTech ha generado una creciente necesidad de herramientas automatizadas capaces de detectar transacciones sospechosas.
En este estudio, se diseña, desarrolla y evalúa un modelo de aprendizaje automático basado en Random Forest, utilizando conjuntos de datos públicos sobre fraude financiero, como el Credit Card Fraud Detection Dataset de Kaggle.
El análisis se enmarca en un escenario de ataque de phishing, donde un usuario ha sido engañado para proporcionar sus credenciales bancarias, lo que permite a un atacante realizar transacciones fraudulentas con su información. Se busca identificar patrones de comportamiento anómalos posteriores al compromiso de la cuenta, permitiendo detectar fraudes en tiempo real antes de que causen pérdidas significativas.
Se entrenará y evaluará el modelo mediante métricas como Precisión, Recall, F1-score y AUC-ROC, analizando su capacidad para minimizar falsos positivos y falsos negativos.
Finalmente, se discutirán las aplicaciones del sistema en entornos FinTech reales, así como las limitaciones y desafíos de implementar inteligencia artificial en la seguridad financiera.[EN] The increase in financial fraud on FinTech platforms has generated a growing need for automated tools capable of detecting suspicious transactions.
This study designs, develops and evaluates a machine learning model based on Random Forest, using public datasets on financial fraud, such as Kaggle s Credit Card Fraud Detection Dataset.
The analysis is framed within a phishing attack scenario, where a user has been tricked into providing their banking credentials, allowing an attacker to perform fraudulent transactions using their information. The goal is to identify anomalous behavior patterns following the account compromise, enabling real-time fraud detection before significant losses occur.
The model will be trained and evaluated using metrics such as Precision, Recall, F1-score, and AUC-ROC, analyzing its ability to minimize both false positives and false negatives.

Structural versatility of CLT panels as a resilience factor
[EN] The growing concern about the climate crisis has transformed the architectural outlook, challenging professionals to find innovative and sustainable solutions that minimise environmental impact. In this context, CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) panels have emerged as a modular option in sustainable construction because of its versatility and ability to reduce the carbon footprint compared to traditional materials. This article focuses on examining the various features of cross-laminated timber panels, from their viability as a façade component to their structural properties. The study uses a classificatory approach to categorise and compare aspects such as structural strength, durability, energy efficiency and sustainability. The analysis highlights its capacity to serve as a façade, its modular capacity in terms of dimensions and its resistance to deformations to ensure structural stability. These analyses highlight the versatility and potential of CLT panels in sustainable construction and climate change adaptation. Agile implementation factors in the project portfolio
[EN] This research aims to investigate the agility implementation factors in the project portfolio of defense organizations. Given the complex and dynamic nature of the organization environment, utilizing agile approaches in project portfolio management can significantly improve efficiency, flexibility, and responsiveness to change. In the first phase, 42 factors influencing project portfolio agility were identified through a comprehensive literature review. Subsequently, using questionnaires and based on expert opinions, some of these factors were modified and eliminated, resulting in a refined list of 22 factors utilizing the Fuzzy Delphi method. This study employs a combination of Fuzzy Delphi method, TOPSIS, and Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) methods to identify and prioritize key agility factors affecting the project portfolio of these organizations. The identified key agility factors were adapted to the project portfolio lifecycle. Following this, ISM was used to determine the structural relationships between the prioritized factors, culminating in the development of a hierarchical model that illustrates the level of influence and dependence of each factor. For each factor, an implementation method was proposed based on existing agile methodologies. The research findings indicate that the most critical agility factors include planning aligned with the continuous needs of customers and stakeholders, rapid response planning to changes including demand fluctuations and strategic technologies, and overall flexibility. Resilient edge-to-cloud architecture with self-healing and self-correcting mechanisms for industrial data continuity
[EN] In the era of Industry 4.0, advanced technologies are transforming production processes, although their
adoption introduces challenges related to integration, security and scalability in industrial environments.
This study investigates the preservation of industrial data continuity under stress conditions. A structured literature
review was conducted in Scopus and Web of Science, following the PRISMA methodology, to identify the resilience
requirements. This was followed by the design and implementation of a hybrid edge-to-cloud (E2C) microservices
architecture. The approach was validated through controlled overload and saturation experiments in a hybrid cloud¿
edge environment, utilising orchestration, monitoring, and alert-management tools such as Kubernetes, Rancher,
Prometheus, Grafana, and Node-RED. The proposed architecture combines edge node execution with centralised
cloud coordination (E2C) to address these challenges. A central motivation for this design is the recognition
that industrial data represents a strategic asset. Interruptions or losses in data flows directly affect process
traceability and degrade the performance of AI-driven monitoring and optimisation models. Such losses also
trigger reprocessing, waste and suboptimal operational decisions. Therefore, ensuring data continuity and
availability becomes an essential requirement for competitiveness and industrial sustainability. In this context,
the study¿s main contribution is integrating orchestration, alert management and monitoring tools into a closedloop system that triggers self-healing and self-correcting actions when predefined thresholds are exceeded. This
approach avoids systematic network failures, enables autonomous recovery without manual intervention and
keeps system operations and data available. The paper validates the self-healing and self-correcting mechanisms
through overload and saturation experiments. Results demonstrate the feasibility of a zero-touch strategy that
