[EN] In mobility studies, the need to integrate the analysis of subjective well-being has become established, recognizing that travel not only serves a utilitarian function but also generates emotional and cognitive experiences that impact quality of life. This doctoral thesis examines how different transport modes¿with an emphasis on new urban mobility solutions such as carsharing, motosharing, and electric scooters relate to user well-being in the city of Valencia, Spain. This work is part of the Travel Well+ project, which aimed to understand how everyday mobility affects well-being and provide empirical evidence to guide people-centered transport policies. A notable scientific contribution of this research is the translation, cultural adaptation, and psychometric validation of the Satisfaction with Travel Scale (STS) into Spanish, confirming its reliability and validity for application in this context, along with the testing of hypotheses about the relationship between transport modes and subjective well-being. The methodology combined psychometric analysis with the development of structural equation models (SEM). These models demonstrated that the mode of transportation exerts a significant influence on the affective and cognitive dimensions of well-being during travel. Multigroup analyses were also conducted to evaluate differences between sociodemographic groups, and moderation models were estimated incorporating interaction terms between mode and sociodemographic variables, showing that factors such as age, sex, and socioeconomic status differentially influence the experience of well-being associated with mobility. Overall, the results support the usefulness of the STS in the Spanish context and empirically confirm that transport mode choice is linked to users' subjective well-being. The thesis thus constitutes a novel and methodologically robust contribution, offering a more complete view of the relationship between urban mobility and well-being. This is achieved, first, by providing a Spanish version of the Satisfaction with Travel Scale (STS) with solid evidence of reliability, validity, and confirmed factor structure; furthermore, by applying structural equation modeling (SEM) to verify the central hypotheses, it offers advanced evidence through multigroup and moderation analyses on the effects of new urban mobility solutions compared to traditional modes on travel-related well-being. This methodological framework lays a solid foundation for future research and the guidance of people-centered urban mobility policies.Lopez Esalas, YM. (2025). Generation of Tools for the Study of the Regulation and Function of the FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) gene in Arabidopsis
[EN] The life cycle of monocarpic plants ends with the development of a single reproductive event. After producing a defined number of flowers and seeds, the apical meristems of their
inflorescences cease activity in a coordinated manner, in a phenomenon known as Global Proliferative Arrest (GPA), which marks the end of flowering and precedes plant death. Thus,
the timing of GPA determines the final number of flowers and fruits produced, and therefore the agronomic yield in crop species.
Compared to other plant developmental processes, such as the floral transition, the end of flowering is less well studied, although in recent years the genetic basis controlling this process has begun to be established. A key mechanism in the regulation of the end of flowering is the age-dependent pathway mediated by FRUITFULL APETALA2. Moreover, it has recently been suggested that the FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) gene, the main integrator of inductive flowering signals, may also act as a regulator of the end of flowering. Previous data indicate that the ft-10 mutant shows a delay in proliferative arrest, suggesting that FT may participate in determining the duration of the reproductive phase, although its mechanism of action remains unknown.
In this Master s Thesis, molecular tools are generated to study the regulatory mechanisms of the FT gene in Arabidopsis, analyse its role in the end of flowering, and characterize the
function of different transcript variants previously detected in Nanopore analyses.Sanchez Gilabert, A. (2025).

[EN] The company SEAPort (Ship Efficient Approach at Port) Solutions SL is jointly owned by three partners: Fundación Valenciaport, Infoport, and Hiades Consulting, who have decided to combine their efforts to develop and commercialize a product and service. This initiative arises from the fact that many ports still lack an advanced system for tracking cargo or vessels; in many cases, communication is still carried out via walkie-talkies or even pen and paper, causing significant delays in port operations.
This Final Degree Project (TFG) presents a technological solution aimed at implementing a product called ONE (ONE Call, ONE Track). The main objective of this product is to ensure that all agents involved in ship call management and truck tracking are properly informed, have access to the information when needed, and are ready to provide their services thanks to high-precision predictions and Real-Time data. All maritime information will be managed through a Real-Time PostgreSQL database (real-time vessel tracking). In addition, a web application will be developed, featuring an interactive map based on the Leaflet library, which will visualize the information retrieved from the database. This map will include useful visual features designed to streamline port management processes.
The web application will be developed using Angular and TypeScript. For the deployment of the demo environment, a Docker image will be created, enabling the commercial department to effectively visualize and present the product. In this way, the final product will be a web platform that integrates various tools to optimize ship call operations and facilitate quick and efficient communication between operators and supervisors.Sanchis Tomas, B. Use of eggshell and coffee grounds in ecological bricks: optimization with artificial neural networks
[EN] Population growth and the increased consumption of materials have generated significant environmental impacts, particularly in the civil construction industry, one of the largest producers of waste. In this context, soil-cement bricks emerge as a sustainable alternative, as they are produced without firing, reducing emissions, and use local soil, offering advantages such as lightness, thermal comfort, and lower cost. This study investigated the influence of adding residues (coffee grounds and eggshells) on the mechanical strength of these bricks. The soil used had a clayey composition, and the bricks were prepared with different proportions of residues (0%, 10%, 30%, and 50%) mixed with cement. After curing, compression tests evaluated their resistance. The results showed that eggshell improved compressive strength, especially at concentrations of 10% and 30%, while coffee grounds hindered homogenization, reducing strength. Eggshell proved promising as a sustainable aggregate. Additionally, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) were used to optimize material proportions, maximizing strength and minimizing environmental impacts. The ANN modeled the mechanical behavior based on experimental data. This work contributes to the development of eco-friendly materials, highlighting the use of waste as a viable and sustainable alternative for civil construction, and demonstrates the potential of computational methods in innovating construction practices.Ferreira, GDS.;Justi, AL. Development and validation of a reduced-order control-oriented model for hydrogen proton-exchange membrane fuel cells
[EN] Hydrogen proton-exchange membrane fuel cells are one of the technologies that can contribute to achieve the decarbonization targets set in the transport sector. However, such systems suffer from long-term degradation when subjected to highly dynamic operation, especially if low oxygen concentration conditions are reached internally in the cathode stream. Model-based control strategies can help to detect in advance and prevent the appearance of local low oxygen concentration conditions, enlarging the fuel cell stack durability. The purpose of the current research is to develop and validate a reduced-order control-oriented model for proton exchange membrane fuel cells. The model is structured to provide detailed one-dimensional resolution in the axial direction of the advective flow (along the gas feeding channels), so that local composition and electrochemical performance can be evaluated. Instead, mean values are considered in the transversal direction for each characteristic layer of the membrane electrode assembly (bipolar plates, gas diffusion layers, catalyst layers and membrane) to reduce computational cost. Moreover, the main novelty from this model is the development of explicit solutions for mass and species conservation equations, enabling faster than real time computation that is required for model-based control purposes. Once defined, the model is calibrated and validated against a set of data extracted from the literature. The results show that the model reproduces the polarization curves at different working conditions, and also resolves the local inhomogeneities along the cell in active species concentration and electrochemical losses that appear under low cathode stoichiometry. As these local phenomena drive both degradation and efficiency, the physics-based, reduced-order formulation with explicit local-property solution proposed avoids the cause-conflation issues associated to 0D models commonly used in control platforms. This research has been partially funded by the Advanced Materials programme and was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation with funding from the European Union NextGenerationEU (PRTR-C17.11) and by the Generalitat Valenciana as project INNOMAT-H2 (MFA/2022/041) Additionally, the Ph.D. student Jose Andres Lalangui has also been funded by a grant from Universitat Politecnica de Valencia, Spain with reference FPI (PAID-01-22).Piqueras, P.;De La Morena, Joaquín;Sanchis, Enrique José;Lalangui-Gallegos, José Andrés (2026). Off-Design Operation of a Carbon Capture Enabler Oxy-Fuel Combustion Engine with O2 Self-Production
[EN] This work examines the behaviour of a spark-ignition engine using oxy-fuel combustion, coupled with an oxygen production cycle based on a mixed ionic-electronic ceramic membrane. Through 1D-0D simulations, two compression ratios are studied: the original ratio of 9.6 and the optimised CR of 20, under various load levels and altitude conditions. The results show that operational limits exist at part-load conditions, where reducing the load without implementing additional control strategies may compromise system performance. It is observed that at low loads, the intake pressure can fall below atmospheric pressure, encouraging the presence of N2 in the combustion process. Additionally, the engine can operate efficiently up to an altitude of 4000 m, although increasing boosting is required to maintain proper membrane conditions. These findings emphasise the importance of load control and the potential need for energy assistance under certain circumstances. This work has been partially supported by Grant PID2021-123351OB-I00 funded by
