An animation-based approach to clarify the meanings of questions in a technology-enhanced science learning environment preference questinnaire
[[abstract]]Based on our previous work on investigating students’ preferences towards science learning
environments, we found that students encountered great difficulties in understanding the meaning of questions
which described how educational technologies would be used in a classroom setting. Therefore, this study used
animations as visual aids to assist students in clarifying the meanings of questions in a technology-enhanced
science learning environment preference questionnaire. The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of animation-based items on students’ responses and its association with students’ visual images. The results
revealed that students’ responses to the Animation-Based Questionnaire (ABQ) were significantly different from
their responses to the Text-Based Questionnaire (TBQ). Moreover, we found that the vividness of students’ visual
images is a significant predictor in explaining the students’ response changes between ABQ and TBQ (p = .005). It
suggests that the clearer the students’ visual images stimulated from the description of a survey question in TBQ,
the more likely the students will change their responses more prominently to that question on ABQ. This finding
confirms that students interpret a survey question not only based the verbal representations they form from the
question descriptions but also visual images. The questionnaire design should more cautiously take this individual
difference into account

International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS2009)
[[abstract]]本計畫團隊旨在參與由「國際教育成就調查委員會」(The International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement, 簡稱 IEA)所主導之「國際公民教育與素養調查研究」(International Civic and Citizenship Education Study,簡稱ICCS 2009)而組成。至目前為止,IEA 共執行三次國際公民教育研究,第一次於1971 年執行,共有9 個國家參加;第二次於1999 年執行,共有28 個國家參加;本計畫團隊參加第三次研究,共計38 國參與。研究目的主要針對13 歲半(相當於臺灣八年級)學生,進行公民學習成就調查,評估其公民認知、態度與行為,以瞭解參與國家如何培養學生成為未來的公民,並進行各參與國家研究成果之比較。ICCS 2009 各國的調查樣本包括150 所國中校長、3000 位以上八年級授課教師及4500 位以上的八年級學生,從校長、教師及學生三方面,以態度問卷、認知測驗等工具進行調查,深入瞭解各國公民教育現況。此外,考量ICCS 2009 所發展之國際性的研究架構和工具未必能顧及亞洲地區獨特的文化脈絡,臺灣的研究團隊結合香港、泰國、韓國、印尼等亞洲參與國,共同發展適合亞洲的公民素養模式,深入探討在亞洲地區獨特的文化脈絡下所延伸的公民教育議題。亞洲模組將以ICCS 的公民素養架構為主,進行分析與討論,並探討亞洲共同文化與核心價值,發展亞洲公民素養模式,進而發展亞洲模組問卷。本計畫獲得教育部與國科會四年的補助經費,由國立臺灣師範大學教育研究與評鑑中心負責執行臺灣ICCS 2009 計畫,國立臺灣師範大學教育學系劉美慧教授擔任研究主持人(National Research Coordinator),並邀請國內相關領域優秀學者擔任共同主持人,組成跨校研究團隊。研究團隊分為「總計畫組」、「試題發展組」、「深度分析組」、與「亞洲模式組」共四組,研究團隊專長互補、陣容堅強。目前ICCS 2009 為增進國人對於研究計畫結果之了解,臺灣研究團隊特於2011 年11 月19 日舉行計畫研究發表會,ICCS2009 計畫已於同年11 月30 日結案。藉由ICCS 2009 研究計畫之執行可深入瞭解我國八年級學生的公民素養與公民教育成效,並對本土公民教育改革提出具體建議。此外,透過國際比較累積臺灣在國際公民教育之研究成果,亦有助於臺灣公民教育學術研究之國際接軌。

[[abstract]]After TIMSS 1995 and TIMSS 1999 (TIMSS-R), Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study 2003, (TIMSS 2003) is conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). TIMSS 2003 focus on grade four and grade eight students, and there are about 40 countries participated this study. The purpose of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study 2003 (TIMSS 2003) is to examining structure and content coverage of science and mathematics curriculum, and to investigate how science and mathematics are taught, and to provide information to improve teaching and learning in science and mathematics. Main Survey was administered from May 19 to June 6, 2003 in our country, both grade 4 and 8 were participated, and there are 150 classes surveyed on each grade. A total of 5380 students of grade 8 and a total of 4661 students of grade 4 were test, excluded students were not included.
