Remembering before acting: The role of episodic memory in future prosocial behavior in preschoolers.
peer reviewedThe directive function of episodic memory - using past experiences to guide current behavior - plays a crucial role in human decision-making. Research suggests that children who recall a past good deed are more likely to act prosocially. However, the emergence of this relation remains unexplored in early preschool years. To address this question, 134 French-speaking preschoolers (24-47 months) were recruited and assigned to either a "good deed" condition, in which they actively helped a female accomplice hide a birthday gift, or a "neutral" condition, in which they were asked to watch the accomplice hide the gift. One week later, after their memory of the previously experienced event was assessed, they were put in a situation requiring them to provide help (i.e., the experimenter dropped some cards and had to pick them up). Their prosocial response was recorded. Generalized Linear Analyses revealed that, in the good deed condition, children with more detailed memories were more likely to help the experimenter. This effect was not found in the neutral condition. Interestingly, children also appeared to be less likely and slower to provide help as they grew older, suggesting a developmental shift in their memory-based decisions: younger children rely on fast, automatic decisional processes while older children engage in a slower, more deliberate decisional balance
DEWATERED SEWAGE SLUDGE TEXTURAL AND VISCOELASTIC CHANGES DURING ITS DRYING: FOCUS ON THE STICKY PHASE
peer reviewedThis study characterizes viscoelastic and textural evolution of dewatered sewage sludge (DSS) during thermal drying, with a particular focus on identifying the moisture ranges associated with its sticky-phase (S-P). DSS samples were collected from three wastewater treatment plants and analysed for total solids (TSC) and volatile solids (VS). Samples were dried in 100 g batches at 105 °C and tested at discrete moisture levels. Samples were homogenized and extruded into cylinders measuring 3 cm in height and 1.5 cm in diameter. The samples were analysed using texture profile analysis, rheology, penetrometry, and X-ray microtomography; tests were done by triplicate to ensure reproducibility. For all samples, the sticky phase was identified between 20%DS and 35%DS, a range consistently confirmed across methods, by a peak in the adhesiveness-to-cohesiveness (A/C) ratio in TPA and penetrometry, a stabilization of the storage modulus (G′) in rheology, and a drop in porosity by microtomography This convergence indicates that the sticky phase represents a critical transition between viscoelastic-pasty and viscoelastic-solid states, associated with internal structural rearrangement and moisture redistribution The proposed multi-technique methodology can be adapted to other sludge types to map their sticky phase and to support the design and optimization of drying operations
La Fabrique des discours
Un discours est, avant tout, une narration. Lorsqu’une personnalité politique s’exprime, elle ne se contente pas de décrire la réalité sociale, mais elle contribue à la façonner en élaborant une représentation du monde. Comme tout bon récit, un discours politique met en scène des héroïnes et des héros, un·e guide ou un·e sage, une quête portée par des valeurs, mais aussi des antagonistes. Écouter un discours politique, c’est donc, en quelque sorte, assister à un scénario digne d’un film Disney ou Marvel. Pour en saisir pleinement le sens, il est essentiel d’en analyser la dramaturgie. Chaque discours construit sa propre mise en scène : il mobilise des acteurs spécifiques (les travailleurs et travailleuses, les indépendant·es, la nation…), des valeurs particulières et des ennemis identifiés. Au-delà de cette mise en récit, les discours véhiculent des idéologies, souvent dissimulées derrière les mots. L’idéologie vise à répondre à des questions fondamentales : qui sommes-nous ? D’où venons-nous ? Que faisons-nous ensemble ? Où allons-nous ? La scène politique est ainsi traversée par une pluralité de discours, chacun cherchant à dicter son vocabulaire, son récit, son idéologie, autrement dit, sa propre vision de la réalité sociale. La politique devient alors une lutte discursive, une tentative d’imposer un récit dominant. Aujourd’hui, certains discours semblent dominer, tandis que d’autres se contentent de les contredire, sans proposer de véritable alternative. Comment comprendre cette dynamique
PlaySCAPES: Set-the-Stage Report on Sustainable Climate Transition and VOD platforms
StreamSCAPES brings together a consortium of twelve organisations, composed of academic institutions and key representatives of creative and cultural industries (CCIs), to explore the under-utilised strengths, existing challenges and knowledge, practice and policy gaps in the Video-On-Demand (VOD) services in Europe, which hinder or enable their sustainable climate transition (SCT). As VOD platforms are increasingly important nodes within audiovisual and cultural ecosystems, StreamSCAPES focuses on this dynamic intersectional juncture of technology, business models, consumption habits and meaning makers to develop and pilot solutions to untap the potential of VOD platforms to support the green transition.
This project deliverable is the outcome of the research activities organised in Work Package 1 – PlaySCAPES: Stakeholder workshops. WP1 aims to establish contacts between the audiovisual sector, academia, the CCIs, and local, national, and international authorities, by bringing key stakeholders together to identify common challenges and needs, generate ideas and challenge established thinking. Five online workshops with 24 participants were organised between June and September 2025 to discuss 1) the social relevance and understanding of SCT, 2) the SCT in production and distribution, and 3) policies and initiatives related to the SCT. The workshop data were analysed by using the qualitative thematic analysis method

Simulation of Oxygen Green Aurora Emission on Venus
peer reviewedAurora is a luminous event generated by energetic particles interacting with the atmosphere on different planets. As for the solar system planets having no strong intrinsic magnetic field, the primary sources of energetic particles are solar energetic particles (SEPs) accelerated by magnetic reconnection in solar flares and by shock waves driven by coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and corotating interaction regions (CIRs). As observed by Apache Point Observatory (APO), the Venusian aurorae usually happened after the SEPs events passage. However, it is still unclear whether the origin of the aurorae is SEPs or not. Here we used a Monte Carlo model PTRIP (Nakamura et al., 2022) to simulate the ionization rate and emission rate of the atomic oxygen green line. We found that the simulated electron densities are consistent with the radio occultation measurements VeRa on board Venus Express (VEx) in terms of both peak altitude and density. Our estimations of the electron densities are 2×104 cm-3 for Oct. 27th, 2013 event and 1×105 cm-3 for Jul. 14th, 2012 event, while the peak altitudes are 113 km and 106 km respectively. It is very comparable with the measurements of VeRa/VEx, the electron densities are 2×104 cm-3 and 0.5×105 cm-3, while the peak altitude are around 120 km and 113 km, respectively. The brightness of the 557.7 nm emission is on the order of 10-100 R in the nadir and 1-10 kR in the limb, which is bright enough to be detected using ground-based telescopes. Our work is the first theoretical study to evaluate the production of 557.7 nm aurorae on Venus. The results support that the 557.7 nm Venusian aurorae are generated by SEPs precipitation. Our work provides a reference for future observation of the Venusian aurora
