    DIVA-Face - Dynamic and Image Variation Archive

    The DIVA-Face database is a collection of 8,064 video clips and 2,016 photographs of eight Caucasian actresses. Each video clip depicts a single actress performing one out of twelve standardized gestures under one out of three lighting conditions (front-, left-, or right-illumination), within one out of twenty-eight appearance configurations. The twenty-eight appearance configurations were systematically created by filming each actress with one out of six wigs (specific to each pair) or wearing a balaclava, with and without glasses, and with and without makeup (lipstick). For added variability, four wigs per pair were filmed in two hairstyles (loose or tied up). Each appearance was recorded performing all twelve gestures in the three lighting conditions. In addition, actresses were photographed in each appearance–lighting combination, with a neutral facial expression, and while facing in three distinct directions (front, three-quarter left, and three-quarter right). Therefore, the collection of stimuli allows a controlled selection of facial stimuli based on each characteristic (wig/balaclava, presence of make-up, presence of glasses, lighting, gesture or viewing angle) independently. The actresses are grouped into four pairs, matched for average facial distinctiveness and pairwise facial similarity based on ratings from independent judges. Within each group, actresses were filmed and photographed with the same subset of six wigs out of 24. Four distinct subset of wigs were created based on distinctiveness and similarity ratings. All stimuli were recorded against a green screen, allowing easy manipulation or replacement of the background. The database is designed for flexible use in psychophysics, neurocognitive, or socio-cognitive experiments involving facial stimuli

    Information Management in BIM Collaboration: Experimental and Exploratory Approaches

    Le travail de recherche doctorale porte sur la caractérisation et la qualification des informations échangées dans le cadre d’un processus BIM de modélisation et de gestion des données du bâtiment (BIM pour Building Information Model, Modeling & Management). Il s’attache plus particulièrement à analyser les formes, les contenus et les dynamiques de circulation de l’information autour de la maquette numérique, entendue à la fois comme artefact technique et comme objet de médiation des interactions entre les multiples acteurs impliqués dans un projet de construction. Dans un contexte où les projets BIM se multiplient, la maquette numérique ne se limite plus à un simple support de représentation géométrique : elle devient un vecteur central d’articulation des pratiques, qu’elles soient formelles ou informelles, planifiées ou opportunistes, normées ou expérimentales. Cette complexification appelle une relecture des modalités de gestion de l’information dans un environnement collaboratif assisté, marqué par une forte interopérabilité technique mais également par des asymétries de compétences, de temporalités et de responsabilités. Or, les cadres actuels de gestion de l’information, souvent hérités de logiques descendantes ou fortement prescriptives (notamment à travers les standards tels que l’ISO 19650), peinent à intégrer la diversité des usages, des contextes et des granularités observés sur le terrain. Cela pose la question du développement de méthodes adaptées, capables de soutenir l’activité des acteurs en leur garantissant un accès pertinent, contextualisé et opérationnel à l’information, sans pour autant alourdir les processus ou freiner la dynamique des projets. Cette tension entre formalisme normatif et pratiques situées constitue le cœur de notre problématique. La démarche de recherche adoptée s’appuie principalement sur des observations conduites dans des contextes expérimentaux contrôlés, mais également avec des retours d’expériences d'acteurs professionnels engagés dans une approche BIM. Cette hybridation entre recherche en laboratoire et immersion sur le terrain permet de croiser des données empiriques riches et de formuler des propositions articulant théorie, pratique et normativité.9.     A framework for Resilient Cultural heritage

    It is acknowledged by International declarations and policy guidance documents that cultural heritage (CH) can contribute directly to many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including resilience and adaptation to climate change (SDG 13). CH can support climate change action as it conveys local knowledge that builds resilience for change through mitigation and adaptation. Moreover, the vulnerability of the built environment to climate change possesses inherent resilient properties that allow it to resist damage. The integration of policies and practices of CH conservation into the wider framework of sustainable urban development entails the application of a landscape approach that (i) responds to local cultural contexts and value systems, (ii) integrates distinct theoretical perspectives to address the complex layering of the spatial, mental, and functional process-related dimensions of the landscape, and (iii) addresses policies and governance concerns at international and local levels (Ginzarly et al., 2019). Yet, the application of a landscape approach to CH conservation in the context of climate change is faced with different challenges.First, while at the turn of the twenty-first century the concept of CH has extended from monuments to cultural landscapes and cities as living heritage, assessment processes have been slow to evolve and address the interdisciplinary nature of heritage (Déom & Valois, 2020). Second, there is a challenge around assessing the vulnerability of CH to climate change and integrating its vulnerability status into the broader context of sustainable urban development. This challenge is imposed by the lack of a framework that addresses landscapes rather than heritage sites in isolation (Cook et al., 2021).To address the above-mentioned challenges, this presentation presents a landscape people-centered conceptual framework for resilient CH that is applicable at the city scale (i) to map how different stakeholder groups value heritage in the context of climate change, (ii) using social networks as a tool to engage communities and get access to information about heritage values, and (iii) assess the vulnerability of urban heritage and its associated values to climate change.The conceptual framework is structured around four prominent themes: (1) the city is a living heritage that encompasses the physical, mental, and digital heritage landscapes; (2) digitally mediated heritage practices provide new prospects for digitally-enabled forms of co-creation of heritage values; (3) longitudinal records on social media serve as a data source for the assessment of heritage values and their vulnerability to change; and (4) online communities contribute to communities’ disaster resilience.ReferencesCook, I., Johnston, R., & Selby, K.     Does dietary diversity improve the quality of infant formulas ?

    In a country such as the DR Congo, where nearly half of all children suffer from malnutrition, the use of nutritional inputs from various local food sources is often presented as an economic strategy and an alternative to imported commercial products. Using linear programming, we attempted to analyze the impact of the diversity of local ingredients on the cost and quality of therapeutic food for children. We compiled a ranked list of 12 ingredients that more than 6,000 mothers and caregivers of malnourished children in eastern and central Democratic Republic of Congo would like to see included in infant formula. By formalizing and solving a formulation program using a solver, we successively generated eleven optimized formulations from these twelve ingredients, adding them one by one in order of preference. A thirteenth formulation incorporating a densified resource of essential trace elements was generated. We then analyzed the price evolution of our formulations and their threshold of satisfaction of the 47 nutritional reference constraints for this type of food. The more diverse a mixture is, the more nutritional constraints, but this improvement is almost always accompanied by a significant increase in cost. The mixture of 12 local ingredients only satisfies 48.93 % of 47 nutritional requirements set by the FAO/WHO illustrating the difficulty of formulating an optimal food at low cost based solely on these resources. Most of the unsatisfactory constraints were about micronutrients. The addition of a micronutrient-dense resource raises this rate to 100 % but approximately doubled the cost of the mixture. Local food diversity is not the only required resources for the formulation of a large satisfied therapeutic infant food adapted to the local context. Resources rich in essential trace elements are needed. These resources deserve special attention from nutrition program managers, as the cost of infant formulas depends on them
