    No full text
The aim of this paper is to explore the development of agricultural statistics in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1918-1941 period. Collecting statistical data on agriculture was a duty of the Ministry of Agriculture. The paper reveals how the Ministry performed this job, which data were collected and in which publications these data were published. The development of agricultural statistics has been analysed by applying historical method. Comparison with agricultural statistics of certain European countries has been made by applying comparative method. It has been concluded that agricultural statistics in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia recorded significant improvements during the interwar period: all relevant data were collected, international standards were met, and publications were modernized. As for the manner of conducting statistical research and presentation of statistical data, they were in the spirit of the time and responded to the achieved level of development of statistics in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia

Isothermal green microwave-assisted extraction of caffeine from guarana: a kinetic study

    No full text
The kinetics of isothermal green microwaveassisted extraction of caffeine from guarana seed powder with water at a temperature range from 40 degrees C to 60 degrees C was investigated. The caffeine concentration in the water extract was determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. By applying the isoconversional method, it was established that the kinetics of the caffeine extraction from the guarana seed powder with microwave heating is an elementary kinetic process. The model fitting method was used to determine the kinetic model of the caffeine extraction under microwave heating. It was found that the kinetics of the caffeine extraction can, under microwave heating, be modeled by the Jander's model of three dimensional diffusion. The kinetic parameters, activation energy and pre-exponential factor of the caffeine extraction were determined

Attitudes regarding the national forensic DNA database: Survey data from the general public, prison inmates and prosecutors' offices in the Republic of Serbia

    No full text
Worldwide, the establishment of national forensic DNA databases has transformed personal identification in the criminal justice system over the past two decades. It has also stimulated much debate centering on ethical issues, human rights, individual privacy, lack of safeguards and other standards. Therefore, a balance between effectiveness and intrusiveness of a national DNA repository is an imperative and needs to be achieved through a suitable legal framework. On its path to the European Union (EU), the Republic of Serbia is required to harmonize its national policies and legislation with the EU. Specifically, Chapter 24 of the EU acquis communautaire (Justice, Freedom and Security) stipulates the compulsory creation of a forensic DNA registry and adoption of corresponding legislation. This process is expected to occur in 2016. Thus, in light of launching the national DNA database, the goal of this work is to instigate a consultation with the Serbian public regarding their views on various aspects of the forensic DNA databank. Importantly, this study specifically assessed the opinions of distinct categories of citizens, including the general public, the prosecutors' offices staff, prisoners, prison guards, and students majoring in criminalistics. Our findings set a baseline for Serbian attitudes towards DNA databank custody, DNA sample and profile inclusion and retention criteria, ethical issues and concerns. Furthermore, results clearly demonstrate a permissive outlook of the respondents who are professional "beneficiaries" of genetic profiling and a restrictive position taken by the respondents whose genetic material has been acquired by the government. We believe that this opinion poll will be essential in discussions regarding a national DNA database, as well as in motivating further research on the reasons behind the observed views and subsequent development of educational strategies. All of these are, in turn, expected to aid the creation of suitable legislation and to increase societal confidence that the repository will be used in the legal system without interference with individual rights and freedoms

In order to achieve high results in sports, it is necessary to provide an adequate status of an athlete in according to various factors, among which the body structure is one of greater importance. The aim of this research is to define the most discriminated indicators of body structure indexes, thanks to which a specific change of physical structure can be observed according to a branch of sport and type of combat sport. Variables in the research were: body height, body mass, body mass index, free fat mass index, fat mass index, protein mass index, skeletal muscle mass index, percent of body fat, percent of skeletal muscle mass and protein fat index. The measuring of the body composition is realized by using multichannel segmental bioimpedance with InBody 720 apparatus, applied on the total of 112 male high level senior-age athlete members of different national team's member of Republic of Serbia (62 judokas, 29 Greco-Roman style wrestlers and 21 karatekas). The discriminative analysis has shown that subsamples of the athletes statistically differ in morphology on Wilks' lambda level (0.435, p = 0.000), and that following variables have the highest discrimination compared to athlete respondents in sport function: percent of skeletal mass (0.34), percent of body fat (0.28) and protein fat index (0.26), as the first isolated factor (p = 0.000) by which is explained 86.3 %, that is body weight (0.74), skeletal muscle index (0.73), protein mass index (0.72), body mass index (0.72) and free fat mass index (0.70), as the second factor (p = 0.030) by which 13.7 % variability of measured body structure space is explained. By establishing body structure models of judokas, wrestlers and karatekas for variables examined and by using modern technological method of measuring (InBody 720, 2008) we got new information that characterize specificity of the sport, which all contribute to spreading and improving already existing knowledge in the sports sciences and sport body morphology area

Intimate Partner Homicides in Serbia: Phenomenological Characteristics, Risk Factors and Gender (A)symmetries

    No full text
This paper presents findings from an empirical study of heterosexual intimate partner homicides, based on secondary data collected from the criminal case files of the Higher Court and the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade. The primary aim of the research was to identify risk factors of intimate partner homicides. Furthermore, we examined the universality and consistency of intimate partner homicide risk factors found in previous studies, and indirectly assessed the scope and relevance of some current theoretical models of this problem. One of the specific aims was to determine gender differences concerning motivation for partner homicide. The results confirmed consistency of a number of characteristics of partner homicide: women are considerably more likely to be victimized; attacks committed by women more often result in attempts of homicide/murder; many perpetrators of both sexes suffered from some mental disorder; the majority of offences are committed by men, and half of those committed by women, was preceded by chronic abuse by the male partner; the majority of male perpetrators had previously threatened to kill their victims; separation from violent male partners is the risk indicator for victimization of women. The decision to "punish" a woman for leaving the relationship is the dominant motivation of male perpetrators. However, punishing the estranged partner, although much less pronounced, in the motivation of women. The findings exposed factor complexity of control in partner relationships, thereby further research on gender symmetries and asymmetries concerning intimate partner violence and homicide is needed

The subject of quantitative research is examination of citizens perception of the risk of natural disaster caused by flood and their household vulnerability assessment. The independent samples T-test has examined the connection of gender, parenthood, employment, disability and previous experience whereas a single-factor analysis of variance has been used to examine the connection of age, level of education and marital status to perception of risk and household vulnerability assessment. The objective of the conducted research is the scientific explanation of the effect of the abovementioned variables. 2,500 citizens in 19 local communities have been questioned by the application of survey strategy in households and multiple random sampling. The results of the research show that 13.4% of the respondents emphasize that there may be flood in the following year, 28.9% of the respondents think that there may be flood in the following five years and 39.3% of the respondents emphasize that their household is threatened. The statistically significant connection between perception of risks, parenthood, previous experience, military obligation, age and marital status has been determined. Household vulnerability assessment is statistically greatly connected to parenthood, previous experience, military obligation, level of education and marital status. The results of the research can be used to raise awareness of risks from natural disasters caused by floods as the key precondition for improving their readiness to respond.Predmet kvantitativnog istraživanja predstavlja ispitivanje percepcije građana o riziku nastanka prirodne katastrofe izazvane poplavom i ocene ugroženosti njihovog domaćinstva.

The successful use and application of maps precedes cartographic literacy. Cartographic literacy involves knowledge of cartographic method and its application in the process of using geographical maps. If we look at the map as a result of the cartographic survey of the Earth’s surface, as represented by the language of cartography, then cartographic literacy is a way of exploring reality. In this paper we go through the process of generalization of the contour line, which is much more complex than other elements of map generalization, presented with all the character of the terrain geomorphological characteristics. The process is divided into several stages; equidistance changes, connecting the small details into larger forms and extracting characteristic details of the terrain and eventually a reduction of trivial, less important details. Spotting geomorphological forms on the map from the police and the security aspect is the assessment of land, from a map, respectively exploring its properties. The execution of police job and tasks, units of general and special purpose often largely depend on the evaluation of soil characteristics whose properties cannot be changed, and substantially affect the realization of the set goals. Contour line generalization enables a review of quantitative and qualitative characteristics of terrain from tactical aspects of the evaluation and treatment of which mostly depends success in the execution of the task.Uspešnom korišćenju i primeni karte prethodi kartografska pismenost. Kartografska pismenost podrazumeva poznavanje kartografskog metoda i njegovu primenu u korišćenju topografske karte.

    Get PDF
Međutim, integracija dela evropskih država pod navedeni zajednički pravni okvir dovela je do formiranja nadnacionalnog evropskog identiteta, uz istovremeno slabljenje nacionalnog identiteta država članica Unije. Švajcarskoj i dr.).
