Moving Past the One-Size-Fits-All Education-Training Model of Police Academies to the Self-Prescribed Individualized Exercise Prescription Model
Law enforcement agencies generally employ the “one-size-fits-all” education-training model. Its effectiveness compared to alternative training models has been under scrutiny. Physical fitness scores of Serbian male (n = 98) and female (n = 79) police cadets during their yearly evaluation were compared. Cadets trained for the first 3 years with the “one-size-fits-all” model. In the fourth year, they self-prescribed an individualized exercise program based on the obtained curriculum knowledge. A two-way MANOVA revealed a significant effect of academic years on combined variables (p < 0.001) and significant differences between academic years for deadlift, half squat, standing long jump, sit-ups and 12-min Cooper test time (p < 0.001). Sex also had a significant main effect on combined variables (p < 0.001) with males outscoring females on all of the fitness assessments. For pull-ups, there was a significant year * sex interaction (p = 0.01) with the third year to be pivotal for female and male performance, respectively. In conclusion, the use of a “one-size-fits-all” model, presented differences in physical fitness scores between the years one to three, pointing to its questionable effectiveness. On the contrary, the self-prescribed individualized exercise program of the fourth year elicited greater fitness scores, indicating the need to evaluate the applicability of such a training model more
Protection of adult victims of trafficking in human beings and the status of a particularly sensitive witness
In addition to the introduction and conclusion, the paper consists of three logically related parts within which an analysis of certain international and national legal standards in the protection of victims of crime and particularly sensitive witnesses in criminal proceedings has been performed. A special subject of analysis were the national criminal law provisions regulating the protection of adult victims of the criminal offence of trafficking in human beings. Key problems and omissions in the protection of these witnesses were identified, as well as suggestions for overcoming them. In its conclusion, the paper underlines that particularly sensitive witnesses are not always provided protection in accordance with minimum international standards, and the reasons can be found in the impossibility of providing technical conditions, insensibility of acting officers, as well as an inadequate assessment by the authorities in charge of applying certain elements of criminal law protection
The role of organizational units of the Serbian Police Directorate in the system of disaster risk reduction and emergency management
Emergency situations caused by natural and other disasters in the Republic of Serbia are becoming more frequent. The primary strength of the disaster risk reduction and emergency management system in the response phase are the professional fire and rescue units of the Sector for emergency management. Respecting the principle of gradual use of operational staff, in a sit-uation when professional fire and rescue units do not have sufficient capacity to react, members of organizational units of the Police Directorate join them. The floods are characteristic because of the engagement of members of the Gendarmerie, Helicopter unit, special police units, as well as members of the police of general jurisdiction and traffic police. The engagement of members of the Gendarmerie and the Helicopter unit when forest fires occur is of great benefit and repre-sents a significant operational assistance to professional fire and rescue units. In cases of interna-tional rescue assistance sent to the Republic of Serbia, the role of members of the border police is also recognizable. In addition to the operational part, the role of the organizational units of the Police Directorate is reflected in the preventive phase through engagement in various field exercises with the aim of increasing systemic operational efficiency and effectiveness
Application of Mellin Transforms in Determination the Probability Distribution of the Stochastic Volatility Models
In this paper, an application of the Stochastic Mellin Transforms (SMTs) in determination of the probability distribution functions (PDFs) of the Stochastic Volatility (SV) models is proposed. In that aim, three basic SV time series with Gaussian innovations have been considered, and their PDFs were obtained by using the inverse SMT formula
The Role of Sports Federations in Opposing Violence at Sports Events
Application of proton transfer mass spectroscopy for detecting the degree of organic residues decomposition
Volatile organic compounds in the air (VOC) are formed as an inevitable product in the process of decomposition of organic tissue, primarily caused by bacteria. However, in order to fully describe the process in a particular situation, it is necessary to find an adequate analytical method that can precisely and quickly identify bacteria responsible for the production of detected VOC and also to link the duration of the decomposition process to the concentration of produced compounds. Proton transfer mass spectroscopy (PTR-MS) is a widely used mass spectroscopy technique developed for the real-time detection of VOC. In medicine, applications of PTR-MS are numerous, including breath analysis, urine analysis, in vivo analysis of human skin, etc. The idea behind this research is to test the possibility to employ the PTR-MS for forensic investigations of tissue decomposition, i.e., to provide a reliable data-based estimate of the post-mortem interval of a corpse buried in the ground after the murder. In the experiment, we analysed pork samples stored in the soil of known chemical and mineral composition. The PTR-MS measurements were performed before the sample storage and consecutively in several time points up to thirty eight days after. As the PTR-06 GHWHFWV PROHFXOHV mass/charge ratio (their molecular mass plus 1), we first identified the compounds that can be used as indicators of the decay process. From the results obtained, we monitored concentrations of volatile organic compounds of several molecular weights over time and linked the masses to particular byproducts of a certain group of bacteria significant for the tissue decay process. The overall results showed that PTR-MS could identify specific bacteria from the mass spectroscopy results and also to provide an accurate determination of the time-interval the buried tissue spent in the ground.Volatile organic compounds in the air (VOC) are formed as an inevitable product in the process of decomposition of organic tissue, primarily caused by bacteria. Phenomenology of domestic violence as a socially deviant phenomenon in Serbia
The authors of this paper discusses the phenomenon of domestic violence, which has deep roots, and can be traced
from the age of the patriarchate to modern society. The authors explored different types of domestic violence and
measures of legal protection against violence. The paper concludes with an all-important sociological approach to
the study of this phenomenon. Domestic violence is an individual, group, social / national and global problem, and
it is necessary to deal with it, explain it and offer solutions. In contemporary society, which must be synonymous
with human rights and freedoms, no form of violence has a place
The digital forensic method used in interoperability framework for information systems used on EU level in area of migration and border management
Over the past years, great effort was directed to make the various information systems interoperable, as the lack of interoperability was recognized as a major obstacle to progress on the general digitalization processes. Implementation of interoperability framework is challenged especially regarding large IT systems on EU level using and developing in the area of border management. In this paper, the main components and current status of development will be presented, including those searching portal, common biometric system, common identity data repository, and multiple identity detector. Following this approach, the use of a shared biometric matching service, as a digital forensic method, has a goal to allow users to perform more efficiently search and cross-match biometric data. Furthermore, a common identity repository will enable easy access to biographical information, so a person can be more reliably identified, and with a multiple identity detector, it will be possible to detect multiple identities
Fire extinguisher conformity assessment – a case study
The development of large fires has an extremely detrimental effect on the working and living environment. The chances for their effective extinguishing are greatest in the initial stages of flare-up, but that time interval is very short. That is why it is extremely important that fire extinguishers be reliable and, above all, efficient. The usable quality of extinguishers is assessed through a series of laboratory and field experimental tests in the certification process, i.e. prior to placing on the market, an assessment of their conformity with the specified requirements of the relevant standards must be performed. As a result of the previous statements, it can be concluded that it is necessary to develop an appropriate certification scheme for manual and mobile fire extinguishers so that we would have the means with the appropriate level of quality in use. The paper presents a case study of fire extinguishers certification by the certification body - Technical Testing Center

rezultate. The implementation of the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence started on June 01,
2017. The time that has passed from the beginning of its implementation allows us to
make certain conclusions if it has served its purpose and fulfilled the objective for which
it was adopted. In this paper the author offers a parallel analysis of implementation of the
provisions of the Criminal Code and the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence in order
to determine if the implementation of the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence has
had impact on the decline in the number of criminal offenses, as well as if it is possible to
observe the trend of reduction in the number of reported instances of domestic violence
according to the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence, which should be its first positive
effects. Upon the analysis of the data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia and
the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia, the practice of the Constitutional Court
is presented regarding constitutional complaints filed after the completion of procedures
pursuant to the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence, according to which the urgent
measures were ordered and extended against the possible offenders. Finally, the author
concludes that the new manner of work of competent state authorities, i. e. the focus on
preventive policing as well as preventive work of Public Prosecutor’s Office and the courts
have shown certain results.Biblioteka Crimen 5
