    TOKSISITAS AKUT EKSTRAK ETANOLIK BIJI BUAH PINANG (Areca catechu L.) TERHADAP TIKUS JANTAN GALUR SPRAGUE DAWLEY

    Ekstrak etanolik biji buah pinang (Areca catechu L.) memperlihatkan aktivitas penghambatan proliferasi selkanker payudara T47D dan MCF-7. Tikus (Rattus norvegicus) jantan galur Sprague Dawley usia 8 minggu dibagidalam lima kelompok, yaitu empat kelompok perlakuan dan satu kelompok kontrol pelarut CMC-Na 5%. Pemejanandosis tunggal peroral dilakukan terhadap subjek uji dengan variasi dosis ekstrak etanolik biji pinang mulai dari dosisyang paling aman hingga dosis tertinggi yang diharapkan toksik pada semua hewan uji (0,1; 0,72; 5,36 dan 10gram/kg berat badan). Pengamatan dilakukan selama 24 jam terhadap gejala-gejala toksik, wujud dan mekanismeefek toksik maupun patologi organ vital. Pengamatan mikroskopis berupa histopatologi beberapa organ vitaldilakukan dengan pengecatan Hematoxillen&Eosin (H&E). Hasil uji menunjukan bahwa semua kelompok dosisperlakuan tidak mengalami gejala toksik, sama halnya dengan kelompok kontrol. Pemberian dosis tunggal ekstraketanolik biji pinang tidak menimbulkan kematian pada subjek uji, bahkan pada dosis tertinggi sekalipun. Oleh karenaitu pengamatan dilanjutkan hingga 14 hari. Pada hari ke-15 dilakukan pembedahan pada semua subjek uji.Pengamatan mikroskopis menunjukkan tidak ada perubahan histopatologis yang berarti pada seluruh kelompokperlakuan.     Pada tulisan ini dibahas tentang sifat-sifat air pada kondisi sub dan super kritik dalam kemampuannyauntuk menguraikan biomasa selulosa. Air dalam kondisi super kritik mempunyai sifat oksidator yang kuat, yangmampu menguraikan biomasa selulosa menjadi molekul yang lebih kecil seperti dalam bentuk gas CO2 , H2 danair. Air pada kondisi sub kritik mempunyai sifat oksidator yang lebih rendah yang mampu menguraikanbiomasa selulosa menjadi molekul yang agak besar seperti glukosa, asam-asam organik dan biofuel. Penguraianbiomasa selulosa dengan proses hydrothermal biasanya menghasilkan gas, cairan dan padatan tar. Denganmengubah-ubah kondisi operasi (temperatur dan tekanan), jenis katalis, dan waktu reaksi, dan juga komposisidari biomasa selulosa maka produk yang akan dihasilkan bisa diperkirakan. Hydrothermal upgrading danliquefaction menggunakan media air pada kondisi subkritik untuk menguraikan biomasa selulosa menjadiproduk bentuk cair yang bisa dipakai sebagai bahan bakar.Kata kunci: selulosa, hydrothermal, kondisi operasi, gas, bahan baka

    Secondary metabolite by the Taxus endophytic fungus strain Tse3 culture obtained from the West Java Forest has been produced. Production of secondary metabolite had done by aerobic fermentation for 7 days, 3(fC, 120 rpm in PDB (potato dextrose broth) media. The broth of fermentation was extracted by ethyl acetate. Various concentrations of the ethyl acetate extract in (0- 800) mcg/mL were prepared and test against T47D cancer cell line. Cytotoxic test has be done by MTTmethod. ICso value of ethyl acetate extract was 3 mcg/mL.     A comparative test of leaching procedure of the metal chromium (Cr) were conducted between Rotary Agitator and Ultrasonic Cleaner by using certified soil reference materials (CRM) lot number 118 097 APG having a true value of total chromium concentration of 16.7 0.333 mg/L which is used as an material comparison. The result shown that a average concentration result of chromium leached test using Rotary Agitator is 14,18 0,3407 mg/L, and gave recovery 94,92 %. A while the average concentration result of chromium leached test using Ultrasonic Cleaner is 13,64 0,118 mg/L,and gave recovery 91,68 %. Comparison study between Rotary Agitator and Ultrasonic Cleaner equipments didn't shows any significant difference,where tcomputed< ttabularwhich indicates the null hypothesis (HJ is accepted with value a 95 %.Keyword: Certified Reference Material, leached test, Rotary Agitator, ultrasonic Cleane

    The preparation of Brucea leaves have been done for specific parameters and non specific parameter laboratory worb refers to TheNational Agency of Drug and Food Control Regulation for extract quality control. The result for specific extract parameters were the rendement of extraction is 28%, the values of water- extractive and ethanol-extractive are 11.49% and 9.41%, respectively. The result of determination of the non specific parameters of the extract are; loss on drying is 18.95%, the water content is 15.06%, the total ashes is 16.12%. and the level of ashes not dissolved in acid is 11.14%. The analysis of chemical compound shows that the extract containedflavonoid, tannin, and glycoside.     Buah Makasar (Brucea javanica Merrill)is a wild ornamental plant and one of the traditional medicine plants. Isolation andpurification of ethyl acetate extract of B.javanica using silica gel column chromatography with ethyl acetatem-hexane as a mobile phase gradually obtained a pure compound as yellow crystals.     Development of powder material for fingerprint identification has become Indonesian Department of Safety and Defense priority, especially it was written in the National Research Agenda 2006 -2009. Until now Indonesia still imported thepowder from United States and Japan. Powder fineness is one of the important factors, because finer the powder, more easily it stick to the latent fingerprint and better visualization result will be obtained. In this research, nanosilica was fabricated by used TEOS (tetraethoxysilane) as precursor. Nanosilica is an adhesive material in fingerprint powder while carbon is a coloring agent.     ANTICANCER ACTIVITY OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF Selaginella plana HIERON. ON T47D CELL LINE IN VITRO

    Selaginella sp belongs to the Selaginellaceae family. It has been used in China and Indonesia as a traditional medicine. It hasseveral medicinal properties including antibacterial, anticardiovascular, and anticancer agent. The aim of the present study was to access the anticancer property of the ethanolic extracts of Selaginella plana Hieron. on T47D breast cancer cell line. The proliferation of T47D cell line was detected by SRB (Sulforhodamine B) assay which was measured at a wavelength of 515 nM. The result showed that the IC50 of the ethanolic extract was determined at 7.03 pg/mL. This significant activity was assumed due to its high total flavonoid content. The totalflavonoid content of the ethanolic extract was 23.04%. Flow cytometry analysis indicated that the extract may undergo the cell death via apoptosis pathway. In conclusion, the ethanolic extract of Selaginella plana Hieron: has considerable activity in inhibiting T47D cell line proliferation.Key words: Selaginella plana Hieron., SulforhodamineB, T47Dcells, anticancer flow cytometr

    PENGARUH ELEKTROLISIS TERHADAP RENDEMEN MINYAK JARAK YANG DIHASILKAN PADA PROSES PEMBUATAN BIODIESEL

    The use of jatropha oil as a source of raw material for making biodiesel is needed in order to decrease the production cost of biodiesel, since jatropha oil is categorized as non edible fat. In this research, the biodiesel production process by using an electrochemical reactor has been done. At the beginning of treatment, carried out the hydrolysis of oil by using HrS04 with acid and oil volume ratio is 1: 20. At follow-up treatment, carried out the decarboxylation via electrolysis. This process is done by varying the voltage of 0 V, 10 V,20 V,30 V,the variation of the concentration of 0.5 M acetic acid. 1 M, 1.5 M, as well as the distance between the electrodes in the reactor 5em and 10 em. From the experiments shown that electrolysis with voltage parameters, acidic electrolyte solution. and electrode spacing affects the yield of decarboxylation process. Electrolysiswith 1.5 M acetic acid concentration and voltage of 30 volts per cent obtained the highest biodiesel yield of compound that is 70.432% in the reactor with inter-electrode distance of 5cm. While in the reactor with inter-electrode distance of 10 cm. thehighest yield was 53.372% by reacting the oil with 1.5 M acetic acid and voltage 30 Volt.Keywords : voltage, decarboxylation, electrolysis, acidconcentration, electrode distance, biodiesel
