Resulting Changes in Structural and Optical Properties After Bi3+ Co-doping of SrGd2O4:Ho,Yb Nanoparticles
Rare-earth (RE)-based materials are particularly interesting since they possess exceptional optical, electronic, and magnetic properties. These materials consist of a host (matrix) that can be doped with RE ions, which therefore enhance the current properties of the material, and/or provide additional, such as luminescent emission in the visible spectrum. For example, RE-earth oxides, such as ARE2O4 (A = Ca, Sr, Ba, and RE = trivalent rare-earth ions, have great perspectives for producing highly efficient luminescent materials. So far, SrGd2O4 has been a poorly investigated material, even though it has huge potential for many different applications since it possesses high thermal stability, good chemical durability and it is environmentally friendly. The morphology and structure of the obtained particles are mostly influenced by the synthesis methods used for preparing the material. In this work, we will present structural and optical characterization of new material composed of SrGd2O4 doped with Yb3+ and Ho3+, but also, co-doped with Bi3+ ions, prepared via combustion method with glycine as a fuel and citric acid as a chelator. Samples of SrGd2O4 were doped with different Yb3+ (2, 4, 6 at%) ions and constant Ho3+ (1 at%) and Bi3+ (2 at%) concentrations. All samples were heated in the furnace for 1.5 hours at 500 °C and then thermally treated for 2.5 hours at 1000 °C. The pure orthorhombic lattice of SrGd2O4, space group Pnma, was revealed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) (JCPDS Card No.:01-072-6387). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) discovered agglomerated clusters of spherical particles measuring around 150 nm in size. The inclusion of Bi3+ ions into the structure influenced the morphology since the formation of larger grains was observed, with sizes reaching up to ~1.7 μm, showing fine packing of pyramidal-shaped nanoparticles. The uniform distribution of constitutive elements in the samples was confirmed by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). (activator). A substantial decrease in the energy band gap value was detected using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS UV-Vis) for this sample. Luminescent properties were evaluated from photoluminescent emission spectra and intensity dependence on excitation power after excitation at 976 nm. Dominant green (550 nm), red (671 nm), and infrared (758 nm) 5F4, 5S2 → 5I8, 5F5 → 5I8, 5F4, 5S2 → 5I7 transition emissions, respectively, are detected in all samples. The sample co-doped with Bi3+ showed the most intense photoluminescent emission
Serious music and young people in Novi Pazar during the period of socialism
The paper will present the ways in which serious music was presented to children and young people in the territory of the city of Novi Pazar, during the period of socialism, as well as the institutions that advocated for the availability of this music. After a brief introduction to the cultural and historical circumstances in Novi Pazar, i.e. cultural needs of the population, whose development was primarily conditioned by political and economic conditions, will be addressed to segments of local cultural policy that concerned serious music and ways of incorporating it into the cultural needs of young people. Precisely because of the primary need for education after the Second World War, and only then due to the gradual development of cultural activities and branches of culture, interest in serious music came only in the mid-seventies of the 20th century. The main carriers of this segment of Novi Pazar's musical life were the "Stevan Mokranjac" Music School and the Musical Youth of Novi Pazar, which operated under the Youth Center, and whose activities will be presented in this text. The aim of the paper is to present, in addition to the list of institutions, actors and activities, the (non)integration of this segment of local cultural policy into the republican framework and to see how the idea of socialization (democratization) of culture in a relatively small town in Serbia looked in practice.Национални научни скуп с међународним учешћем Уметничка музика и масовна публика: о видовима промовисања српског и југословенског музичког стваралаштва након Другог светског рата, Музиколошки институт САНУ, Београд 2-4. октобар 2024. Nuna Cave—Significant Component of the Southern Mt. Miroč Karst, Eastern Serbia
The paper presents the Nuna Cave, as one of the more than 20 documented caves in the karstic environment of Miroč Mt. in eastern Serbia. The wider surroundings encompass the 100 km long gorge of the Danube River (Iron Gates, Djerdap) in the segment where it is entrenched into the Southern Carpathian Mountains, with the Pannonian Basin upstream and the Dacian Basin downstream. The first karst explorations in the area date back to the 19th century, while the majority of them took place in the second part of the 20th century, focusing on speleology, hydrogeology, surface karst morphology, biospeleology and geoarchaeology. Tectonically, Miroč Mt. is an anticlinal structure. On the terrain surface, Upper Jurassic limestones are the dominant lithological component. Typical features of karst morphology are ponors (stream-sinks) along the long lines of contacts between karstic and non‐karstic rocks, approving the status of exemplary contact karst along the whole outline. Nuna Cave is the southernmost ponor of Miroč karst. The length of the cave passages is 135 m, while the denivelation between the highest and lowest point is 17 m (+6, −11). Despite the relatively small length, the cave contains large number of indicators pointing to its geological history, morphogenesis and recent hydrological and morphological processes
Infinitive and da + present tense in certain Nis media
The paper analyses the use of two competing forms, the infinitive and the form da + present tense, in the speech of the Nis media. TV programs Niško jutro and Odgovori in the period from 2020 and 2022 were analyzed. The infinitive is analyzed in the category with modal, semi-modal and phase verbs, with special reference to the forming of the future tense. The basic assumption is that infinitive will be stable in use, bearing in mind that it is a public and official discourse. However, it turned out that the form da + present tense dominates even in future tense, which the Committee for Standardization prescribes as nonstandard. Also, some pragmatic implications of deagentization, distancing and deconcretization of the agent in the use of the infinitive, that is, da + present tense form with modal verbs, especially in the statements of the guests, were observed
Petra and Nea Petra
On the hilly Athos Peninsula, several monasteries were built on cliffs above the sea. In the second half of the 14th century, some of these monasteries were simply referred to as Rock (Πέτρα) in written sources, archival documents and biographies of Athonite saints. The name comes from the bare and isolated hills on which the monasteries were built in a forest environment. In the hagiography of his teacher Gregory of Sinai, Ecumenical Patriarch Kallistos I confirms that the Petra monastery was the monastic community of Saint Simon, in whose vicinity, surrounded by impassable cliffs, his teacher temporarily settled. The same name, μονύδριοντῆς Πέτρας, also refers to a small monastery built from ground up by Hieromonk Dionysius, dedicated to the famous Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John, and also known as the Nea Petra (Νέα Πέτρα). The terminus ante quem for the foundation of the latter community is August 1366. Nevertheless, the construction of the monastery at the present site had taken almost two decades and it was completed only after September 1374, when Alexios III Megas Komnenos, Emperor of Trebizond, was mentioned in his charter as the founder of a new community on the southern slopes of Mount Athos. A number of churches in the Byzantine Empire that rested on the rock were dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. The most famous was the sanctuary ἐν τῇ Πέτρᾳ located in the capital city. It is commonly and rightly assumed that the name of all later sanctuaries known as Petra or Nea Petra was derived from the natural configuration of the terrain on which these monasteries dedicated to John the Baptist were built and the renown of the earliest, Constantinopolitan sanctuary dedicated to the last prophet of the Old Testament and the saint who baptized Jesus Christ. However, it seems that there was an additional reason for this on Mount Athos. Before Dionysius founded his fraternity, there had already been a Petra on Mount Athos, a monastery dedicated to Jesus Christ. The mentioned fraternity is Simonopetra. Little is known about the first centuries of the Simonopetra monastery, but based on two documents from the archives of Rossikon, it can be inferred that this fraternity is one of the earliest communities on Mount Athos and that it was founded in the mid-11th century at the latest. After that, the monastery cannot be traced in historical sources for almost two hundred years, until the 14th century and the aforementioned reference in the hagiography of Venerable Gregory of Sinai. More information is available about the great renovation of Simonopetra in the 1360s thanks to the sponsorship of the Serbian despotes Jovan Uglješa, local ruler in Serres. The fact that the despotes petitioned the Protaton and the Holy Council of Mount Athos for the permission to build on that deserted place suggests that the monastery had been abandoned at some point during the early or mid-1360s, most likely due to one of the then frequent incursions of Turkish pirates on the peninsula. The renovation of Simonopetra was completed in October 1368, when Despot Jovan Uglješa issued his charter.Recueil de Chilandar,1
Between Jung and Electromagnetism: Slavinski’s “Scientific” Occultism
Živorad Mihajlović Slavinski (1937–2022) was one of the pivotal figures in
propagating and developing occult theories and practices in former Yugoslavia in the
last three decades of the 20th century. He was also a prolific writer, whose books address
a wide scope of esoteric topics, ranging from yoga and I Ching to elements and
modifications of Kenneth Grant’s Typhonian Order and Charles Berner’s method of the
“enlightenment intensives”. Instead of scrutinizing Slavinski’s esoteric and
philosophical thought in general, in this paper I pay a closer look at his main literary
and argumentative strategy, employed especially in his early works. It is based on
Slavinski’s attempts to correlate occult teachings with science, particularly psychology
and physics, and to show that occult and esoteric systems by no means exclude reason
and rationality inherent in science. While such a strategy clearly aimed at legitimizing
occultism in a society dominated by communist values, I argue that Slavinski’s approach
went beyond this pragmatic goal and that the most famous Yugoslav Thelemite – who
was psychologist by training and presented himself as such – saw a genuine potential in
linking esotericism with modern science. This secularizing tendency is certainly a
common feature of New Age spirituality, but it also reveals possible parallels with much
older esoteric currents, which sought to connect with the scientific thought of their time.
In
this regard, I pay particular attention to Slavinski’s understanding of
electromagnetism as a medium of occult influence, which arguably corresponds to (and
substitutes) the late antique, medieval and early modern notions of pneuma, as well as
the more recent notion of animal magnetism. The 5th Colloquium of the Central and Eastern European Network for the Academic Study of Western Esotericism (CEENASWE): Continuities and Ruptures: Esotericism and Science in Central and Eastern Europe from the Middle Ages to the Present, October 11–12, 2024, at Jagiellonian University in Kraków
