Between two organizations, homelands: identity, subjectivity of young Serbs in Vienna
This presentation examines how third- and fourth
generation descendants of Serbian labor migrants in Vienna
mobilize cultural, social, and political resources to negotiate their
identity and social positioning within Austrian society. Although
born and raised in Austria, these young individuals remain
embedded in transnational networks, sustaining connections with
Serbia while simultaneously navigating the expectations of
integration into the dominant Austrian sociopolitical framework.
Grounded in ethnographic research and survey data, this
study analyzes the role of Serbian cultural organizations and
associations in shaping the identity and public representation of
young Serbs in Vienna. Special attention is given to how these
institutions and informal communities contribute to the
reproduction of linguistic and ethnic identity, while at the same
time complicating pathways to full integration into Austrian
society. Additionally, the presentation explores the political
subjectivities of young people of Serbian descent, interrogating
their sense of belonging – whether they identify as part of
Austrian society or remain more oriented toward Serbia. Findings reveal a specific form of transnational
belonging, where young individuals negotiate between integration
into Austrian society and maintaining strong symbolic and
material ties to Serbia. While most respondents articulate a sense
of inclusion within Austria, they also experience a persistent
ethnic and cultural distinctiveness. These insights contribute to
broader anthropological debates on migration, transnational
identity formations, and the intergenerational negotiation of
belonging in Western European societies
Characteristics of Internet Memes as Emotional Mediators in Youth Culture
In contemporary digital communication, social media
has become a key platform for interaction among young people,
shaping the self and expressing identity, while internet memes, as
a specific form of digital content, occupy a central position in the
construction of a shared language. Internet memes, through their
visual and textual simplicity, enable the efficient transmission of
emotional states, making them key elements in the social
dynamics among young people, allowing them to communicate
emotional states and comment on societal issues in a way that is
specific to digital culture. Through the analysis of memes, which
often employ humor, irony, and sarcasm, this paper examines
how these digital contents become mediators in the process of
expressing and processing emotions—complex, subjective
experiences that are often difficult to convey verbally, creating a
need for alternative forms of communication. In this context, the
aim of our paper is to explore the dynamics of meme usage as
communicative tools in the context of emotional expression,
investigating how these digital expressions facilitate collective
identification and social support, as well as how they can affect
mental health, either by alleviating stress and anxiety or, conversely, by normalizing negative emotions and stress within
the social sphere. The paper is based on an interdisciplinary
approach, integrating (digital) ethnography, emotion theories, and
digital communication studies to illuminate the specific roles of
internet memes in the emotional and mental health of young
generations
Tunnel structured Na0.54MnO2 nanorods synthesized at high-temperature: Cathode material for aqueous Na-ion batteries
The Na0.54MnO2 powder is synthesized by the glycine nitrate method followed by annealing at 950 °C. Its crystal structure resembles a 3d tunnel with rod-like shapes, with an average crystallite width of 130 nm and a length in the micron range. The electrochemical performance of the Na0.54MnO2 - based electrode is tested in a NaNO3 solution. During potential cycling, the Na+ ions intercalation/deintercalation processes remain reversible, indicating good stability. For the current densities of 1000, 2000, and 5000 mA g−1, the calculated specific capacities are 72.6, 66.8, and 57.5 mAh g−1, respectively. Due to its suitable morphology for easy Na+ ions intercalation/deintercalation and good electrochemical performance, Na0.54MnO2 is a promising cathode material for aqueous Na-ion batteries.Peer-reviewed manuscript: [https://hdl.handle.net/21.15107/rcub_dais_18684
Electrochemical detection of diclofenac and doxorubicin on ZnO/PEO modified screen printed electrodes
Compared to classical analytical methods used for detection of water pollutants, electrochemical sensors have a number of advantages such as sensitivity, selectivity, and repeatability. The detection of commonly used drugs, such as diclofenac and doxorubicin, is important because they are often present as pollutants in water. The aim of this study is to demonstrate that a screen printed electrode modified with zinc oxide and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO, Mw = 200.000, 600.000 and 900.000 g mol−1) (ZnO/PEO) can be used for the detection of these two drugs. The composite materials ZnO/PEO, with a different molecular mass of PEO (ZnO/PEO-2, ZnO/PEO-6 and ZnO/PEO-9) were synthesized and their structural and morphological characteristics were analyzed. Cyclic voltammetry was applied for the qualitative and quantitative detection of Diclofenac and Doxorubicin. All measurements were performed in phosphate buffer at pH=7, while ZnO/PEO modified C screen printed electrodes were used as the working electrode. We found that prepared electrodes can be used over a wide concentration range, while the detection and quantification limits are low for both drugs
The gamma vanadium oxide as a potential cathode material for rechargeable aqueous multivalent ion batteries
The focus of this study is to investigate capabilities of gamma lithium vanadium oxide (γ-LiV2O5) to accommodate ions beyond Li+. The γ-LiV2O5 has been tested electrochemically as a potential candidate for novel aqueous rechargeable batteries based on multivalent ions, namely Mg2+, Ca2+ and Al3+. The γ-LiV2O5 is prepared by a simple solid-state reaction and characterized by XRD, SEM, HRTEM, FTIR, Raman, and Impedance methods, before and after CV cycling. Li+ ions can take octahedral cationic sites in the oxide lattice, which leads to γ ↔ γ′ reversible phase transition, but their subsequent occupation of tetrahedral sites incites irreversible γ ↔ ζ transition and capacity fade during extended cycling in LiNO3. In contrast, such irreversible behavior is not observed in Ca(NO3)2 and Mg(NO3)2, where initial repeated cycling, including negative potentials, causes the CV growth. Although Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions weekly intercalate into the structure, as indicated by BVS analysis, the proton coinsertion, during early cycling stage activates the surface, causing large platelets to crumble and boosting pseudocapacitive-type redox behavior. This results in a high specific capacity in bivalent electrolytes, especially in Ca(NO3)2, which amounts to 128 mAh g−1 at 1 A g-1. Although the agglomeration of reduced particles leads to a decline in capacity over extended cycling, the capacity remains high after 150 cycles, reaching 74 mAh g−1. In LiNO3, the identification of γ’ phase after long cycling within the stable potential window, together with agglomerated microplatelets (which are not crushed during initial Li+, thus limiting capacity to ≈ 27 mA hg−1) is linked to the capacity fade. Furthermore, when cycled in Al3+ electrolyte, the material degrades quickly due to the dissolution process at the beginning of cycling. Therefore, the Ca2+ electrolyte is identified as the most promising for the development of rechargeable aqueous batteries with gamma phase V2O5 cathode.Peer-reviewed manuscript: [https://hdl.handle.net/21.15107/rcub_dais_18353
SERBIAN CONCEPTOGRAPHY IN THE CONTEXT OF SLAVIC CONCEPTOLOGY
У раду се анализира стање српске концептологије у контексту сло-
венске концептологије, углавном пољске аксиологије и руске лингво-
културологије, лингвистичке концептологије и концептографије. Најиз-
разитији почеци запажени су у области концептуалне лексикографије
у виду реконструисања стереотипа и концепата српске језичке слике
света на материјалу савременог језика или народних говора. Истакну-
та су имена српских когнитивиста и теоријско-методолошке основе на
којима се заснива њихов рад и поменути главни радови српске концеп-
тологије. Анализирана су достигнућа српских концептолога у обради и
упоређивању језичких података на унутаркултурном и међукултурном
плану у контексту резултата пољске школе и руских концептолошких
лексикографских школа. Идентификована су актуелна питања и задаци
који стоје пред српским концептолозима, међу којима се као најважнији
издваја израда аксиолошког речника српског језика на јединственој ме-
тодолошкој основи описа кључних концепата српске културе. С тим у
вези, размотрени су методолошки приступи и лексикографски поступци
примењени у словенској концептографији с циљем избора и установља-
вања оних поступака који највише одговарају обради материјала српског
концептуалног корпуса.Based on a critical analysis of previous research results, this paper
presents the current state of development in Serbian ethnolinguistics, linguoculturology,
and conceptology during the last decades of the 20th and
the first decades of the 21st century. This is examined in the context of the
half-century-long development of these disciplines within Slavic conceptology
and conceptography - namely, Polish cognitive ethnolinguistics and
axiology, as well as Russian linguoculturology, linguistic conceptology, and
ideography. It is emphasized that in Serbian linguistics, the most prominent
beginnings were observed in the field of conceptual lexicography, particularly
in the reconstruction of stereotypes and concepts within the Serbian
linguistic worldview, based on contemporary language material or regional
dialects. Initially influenced by Russian linguoculturology, conceptology,
and ideography, this research later adopted approaches from Polish Lublin
cognitive ethnolinguistics. Both lines of inquiry, grounded in compatible
linguistic frameworks - cognitive ethnolinguistics, linguistic conceptology,
and linguoculturology -have established solid foundations for developing
a coherent theoretical and methodological basis for Serbian conceptology
and conceptography within a unified program. One of the key objectives of
this joint program in contemporary Serbian linguistics is the planned development
of an axiological lexicon of the Serbian language, alongside the establishment
of standardized methodological procedures for describing key
concepts of Serbian culture, best suited to the processing of material from the
Serbian conceptual corpus
The Image of the Iron Guard in Yugoslavia and Reflections of the Crisis in Romania 1934–1941
In 1927 in Romania, Corneliu Zelea Codreanu founded the Legion of the Archangel Michael – later known simply as the Legion or Legionary Movement, or most frequently the Iron Guard after its paramilitary wing. His movement eventually became the most successful fascist variant of interwar Europe, surpassed only by Hitler’s National Socialists and Mussolini. It was remarkable for its anti-Semitism, pan-Orthodox Christian and racial renovationism, and mystical nationalism. It was committed to martyrdom and sacrifice. Their members (they assassinated two Romanian prime ministers). The paper maps the trajectory of the Iron Guard vis-à-vis Yugoslavia, primarily in the press where it started to attract attention after late 1933 because of the sensational assassination of the Romanian prime minister. The Yugoslav press coverage was insightful within the framework of the wider Balkan–Romanian relations with Romania whose official stance of the Bucharest government viewed the presence of Iron Guard refugees in Yugoslavia with suspicion. Particular attention is given to the views of Dimitrije Ljotić’s ZBOR, which saw the Iron Guard in ideological terms but incomparably weaker in terms of actual strength. Finally, the paper analyses the impact that the main crisis – suppressing the Yugoslav government’s treatment of ZBOR, arguing that the main motive was the fear of the Iron Guard – and tacitly informed by his experience with the Romanian fascists
Temperature Response, Time Delay, and Hysteresis Loop of Heat Loss Flowmeter Thermistors
A heat loss flowmeter for water was made of two negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thick film thermistors Th1 and Th2 and placed in a metal housing. The first thermistor Th1 is cold and measures input water temperature Tw , and the second thermistor Th2 is self-heated at a constant voltage and measures water flow rate Q. At first temperature responses T(Q), heat loss and time delay td were measured and analyzed; then a temperature hysteresis loops of self-heating thermistor at switching waterflow regime was measured. The electrical responses I(Q) were measured using the flowmeter and digital acquisition card (DAC). An independent ultrasonic flowmeter was used in series with a novel heat loss flowmeter. The current values of temperature T(Q, t) of the water flow Q(t) were obtained using Steinhart-Hart equation for thermistors. Input water temperature Tw was used as a parameter (in the range of 5 °C–25 °C). The maximum thermistor power dissipation was less than 1 W. The inaccuracy of the water flow rate measurement was estimated to be less than 3%. The measuring flowmeter range of 0.003–0.3 L/s (1/2 in pipe) is suitable for measuring water consumption in households.Peer-reviewed manuscript: [https://hdl.handle.net/21.15107/rcub_dais_18501
