Voices of youth from polyphonic generational, repertoire, and musical discourse in Cultural-artistic association ’Oplenac’, Topola (Serbia)
This paper is based on two-decade lasting experience in engagement in the field of applied ethnomusicology, realized through cooperation of two generations of ethnomusicologists within the frames of the Cultural-Artistic Association (KUD) “Oplenac” and Cultural Center in Topola. The main idea that initiated this cooperation was the one best explained by Svanibor Pettan: musical education that “acknowledges value in the students’ ancestral heritage” with the aim of enabling “the return of the musical patterns to the community which created them but later lost them” (Pettan 1995: 220), that is, revitalizing rural traditional songs of older and newer musical Serbian folk layer from the villages in the vicinity of Topola, through partly institutionalized frames. Ethnomusicologist Jelena Jovanovic was invited as a cooperator in KUD in 2002, to work with already formed excellent young vocal group. After the 2015, along with cultivating several generations of singers and continuous work on repertory of this geo-cultural region, a junior group was also formed by singer and instructor Maja Stanjević Petrović. Očuvanje beogradskih splavova (kao specifičnog urbanog fenomena) u kontekstu održivog kulturnog pejzaža
Floating river clubs (rafts) represent an important segment of Belgrade’s cultural landscape.
Simultaneously praised as tourist attractions and contested due to their environmental impact,
the rafts occupy a significant position within debates on urban development. Throughout
the second half of the 20th century, these rafts gradually transitioned from leisure spaces
to venues of entertainment, a trend that intensified in particular during the 1990s, amidst
socio-political instability and ambiguous regulatory frameworks. These transformations
resulted in ongoing tensions between proponents who advocate preserving the rafts as
unique urban phenomena and critics who emphasize their negative effects on environmental
quality, such as acoustic pollution of urban spaces and wastewater management issues.
Recent discussions have led to initiatives for relocating rafts and relieving pressure on the
riverbanks, as well as proposals for new architectural solutions that further polarize public
discourse. The aim of this research is to explore the complex interplay between the hospitality
and entertainment functions of the rafts, taste as an identity marker, and the potential role of
these urban phenomena in fostering sustainable urban landscape development. The research
relies on qualitative discourse analysis and an open-ended questionnaire to interpret cultural
patterns of spatial use. The findings highlight possibilities for reconciling the preservation of
this specific aspect of the urban landscape with the imperatives of sustainable development
and the concept of a ‘green city’.Splavovi predstavljaju važan segment kulturnog pejzaža Beograda. Istovremeno hvaljeni
kao turističke atrakcije i osporavani zbog svog uticaja na životnu sredinu, splavovi zauzimaju značajno mesto u diskusijama o urbanom razvoju. Tokom druge polovine dvadesetog
veka, splavovi su postepeno prelazili iz prostora namenjenih odmoru u prostore zabave,
pri čemu se ovaj trend posebno intenzivirao devedesetih godina, u uslovima društvenopolitičke nestabilnosti i nedovoljno jasnih regulativa. Posledica tih promena je aktuelni
sukob između zagovornika njihovog očuvanja kao specifičnog urbanog fenomena i kritičara
koji ističu negativan uticaj splavova na kvalitet životne sredine, kroz probleme kao što
su akustičko opterećenje prostora i upravljanje otpadnim vodama. Epilog rasprave jesu
izmeštanja splavova i rasterećivanje reka i kejeva, ali i nova arhitektonska rešenja koja
pod stiču na dodatna neslaganja u javnom diskursu. Cilj ovog istraživanja je analiza složene
dinamike između ugostiteljsko-zabavne funkcije splavova, ukusa kao identitetske odrednice
kao i potencijalne uloge koji ovaj urbani fenomen ima u održivom razvoju urbanog pejzaža.
Istraživanje se zasniva na kvalitativnoj analizi diskursa i otvorenom upitniku u cilju tumačenja
kulturnih obrazaca korišćenja prostora. Rezultati ukazuju na mogućnosti pomirenja očuvanja
ovog specifičnog aspekta urbanog pejzaža sa imperativom održivog razvoja i konceptom
„zelenog grada“

Photoelectrocatalytic Activity of ZnO/RuO2 Composites Toward HER and OER Reactions: The Importance of Surface and Bulk Oxygen Vacancies
With the aim of reducing catalysts’ cost while maintaining high performance in water splitting, ZnO and RuO2 were combined into composites with ZnO to RuO2 mass ratios of 1:1, 2:1, and 10:1. The ZnO/RuO2 composites were prepared by microwave processing of a suspension containing Zn(OH)2 in situ precipitated onto RuO2 powder, and subsequently thermally modified at 600 °C to promote heterojunction formation and alter the defect chemistry. Phase composition, crystal structure, morphology, and optical properties were analyzed in detail employing XRD, TEM/HRTEM, HAADF-STEM with EDS, PL and XPS spectroscopy. The photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) activity of the composites toward the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) was evaluated by linear sweep voltammetry in alkaline electrolyte (0.1 M NaOH, pH 13), before and after one hour of electrochemical system illumination. The analysis focused on surface and bulk oxygen vacancies, which may have a crucial impact in PEC activity, by (1) promoting charge separation and increasing the number of active sites thus enhancing PEC activity, or (2) acting as electron–hole traps and recombination centers, reducing the lifetime of photo-induced charge carriers and thus deteriorating PEC activity. The presented results demonstrate that the combination of ZnO with RuO2 in a specific mass ratio, along with controlled defect structure, offers a worthwhile route for developing bifunctional, noble-metal-reduced catalysts for green hydrogen and oxygen production
STRATEGIC USE OF LANGUAGE IN MEDIA DURING THE PRE-ELECTION PERIOD 2023 IN SERBIA
Предмет истраживања у овом раду јесу новински наслови у српским медијима
с циљем да се утврде присуство манипулативних стратегија приликом информисања
током предизборног периода (од 1. 11. до 17. 12. 2023) и средства којима се манипулација
постиже (на лексичком, семантичком и синтаксичком нивоу). Корпус чине наслови
прикупљени са портала опречних медија (informer.rs, kurir.rs, nova.rs, n1info.rs) како
бисмо добили што репрезентативнију слику медијског извештавања. Забележени
примери тумачени су из угла критичке анализе дискурса. Пошли смо од хипотезе да ће
најчешће манипулативне стратегије подразумевати негативно представљање политичких
конкурената. Анализа је показала да је језик у медијима током предизборне кампање
све агресивнији и нетолерантнији, а међу манипулативним стратегијама издвајамо:
етикетирање, застрашивање и замену теза.The subject of this research is newspaper headlines in Serbian media, aiming to
determine the presence of manipulative strategies in news reporting during the pre-election period (from November 1 to December 17, 2023) and the linguistic tools used to
achieve such manipulation (at the lexical, semantic, and syntactic levels). The corpus consists
of headlines collected from portals of opposing media outlets (informer.rs, kurir.
rs, nova.rs, n1info.rs) to obtain a more representative picture of media reporting. The
recorded examples are interpreted from the perspective of critical discourse analysis. We
started with the hypothesis that the most common manipulative strategies would involve
negative portrayals of political opponents. The analysis showed that the language used in
the media during the pre-election campaign has become increasingly aggressive and intolerant,
with manipulative strategies such as labeling, intimidation, and shifting of topics
being the most prominent
Temperature Monitoring in Metal Additive Manufacturing in the Era of Industry 4.0
The field of metal additive manufacturing has witnessed significant growth in recent years, with technology offering the ability to produce complex geometries that are challenging to manufacture using the traditional methods. In situ monitoring and control of the manufacturing process are crucial for increasing the production capacity and improving the quality of manufactured parts. This article provides a comparative analysis of computational, indirect, and direct methods for in situ temperature monitoring during additive manufacturing of metal alloy components. Furthermore, it discusses the current status, recent improvements, and perspectives for in situ temperature measurements. The basic principles of thermal imaging, two-color pyrometry, and millimeter-wave radiometry are explored, highlighting their limitations for addressing challenges related to material emissivity and rapid changes in building material composition. Overcoming the challenges related to the inaccessibility of the chamber where the parts are formed, direct temperature measurements would allow for the integration of collected information into big data systems. Within the framework of Industry 4.0, this approach offers a viable alternative to the conventional metal shaping processes, improving the production capacity and part quality. This research aims to contribute to ongoing advancements in metal additive manufacturing and its potential to completely replace traditional metal casting practices in the Industry 4.0 era
Non-specific cell labeling using NaY1-xGdxF4:Yb/Er up-converting nanoparticles obtained through solvothermal synthesis
Lanthanide-doped up-converting nanoparticles (UCNPs), due to their advantages over currently used fluorophores, show a significant potential in biomedical sciences as probes for early cancer detection. Their use enables deep noninvasive tissue imaging, since they can emit visible or ultraviolet light upon excitation by near-infrared light, which has lower phototoxicity and higher tissue penetration depth in living systems compared to visible or ultraviolet light. There are several methods for synthesis of these nanoparticles, and in this study chitosan assisted solvothermal approach was applied for the synthesis of NaY1-xGdxF4:Yb/Er nanoparticles. This environmentally friendly method is rapid and low cost and produces biocompatible nanoparticles. Following the synthesis, techniques for characterizing the properties of UCNPs, such as size, shape, phase and optical properties, were performed: X-ray powder diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Two types of cells were used for cell labeling: HS-5 fibroblast cell line and SCC–25 oral cancer cell line, and the cytotoxicity test was done to assess the biological safety of UCNPs. After the incubation of cells with UCNPs, Nonlinear Laser Scanning Microscopy was performed to check the potential of obtained UCNPs to label cells under irradiadion of Ti:Sapphire laser (Coherent, Mira 900-F) as a laser light source. For the imaging of cells autofluorescence excitation wavelength of 730 nm in femtosecond mode was applied, while for detection of UCNPs 976 nm in continuous wave mode was used. The images have shown that the UCNPs were located adjacent to the plasma membrane in the cytoplasmic region of both healthy and cancer cell lines, as well that the cells retained their original morphology. Additionally, the nanoparticles were further analyzed in order to check their potential for optical thermometry and results revealed that the synthesized nanoparticles could be used for measuring the temperature in tissues
Detection of doxorubicin from aqueous solution using ZnO/BaTiO₃-based nanocomposites
Doxorubicin (DOX) is widely used as an anthracycline chemotherapeutic agent in various cancer treatments. Due to its persistence and potential environmental impact, the development of new methods for its detection is of great importance. Most often, spectrophotometric and chromatographic techniques are employed for DOX detection, though in recent years electrochemical methods have been increasingly investigated as promising alternatives. In this work, we studied ZnO/BaTiO3 and ZnO/BaTi0.95Sn0.05O3 nanocomposites as modifiers of glassy carbon electrodes for the electrochemical detection of DOX. The nanocomposite as the active material, carbon black as a conductive additive, and Nafion as a binder were mixed and applied to the glassy carbon electrode surface. The electrolyte was phosphate buffer solution (pH=7), and DOX was added in appropriate portions. Electrochemical measurements were performed using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in a three-electrode cell consisting of a modified glassy carbon working electrode, a platinum counter electrode, and a saturated calomel reference electrode. Both materials showed a welldefined oxidation peak corresponding to the redox process of DOX in both CV and DPV measurements. The limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), dynamic range, and sensitivity were evaluated. The results indicate that ZnO/BaTiO3 and ZnO/BaTi0.95Sn0.05O3 nanocomposites may be used for DOX detection in aqueous solutions using electrochemical methods such as CV and DPV
