Cellular biocompatibility of amorphous calcium phosphate nanoparticles as a fundamental property for application in tissue engineering
The cellular biocompatibility of amorphous calcium phosphate nanoparticles (NPsACP) was evaluated. More precisely, we tested their cytotoxic effects through cell adhesion, MTT and LDH assay, cellular uptake ability by flow cytometry and anti-apoptotic and proliferation gene expression on immortalized human cell lines (HaCaT and HS-5). Our results indicate a generally high level of cellular biocompatibility of NPsACP; however, at high concentrations and longer exposure times, we observed a low level of toxicity. The intracellular biocompatibility of NPsACP was examined and confirmed through an analysis of Survivin, BCL2, HOX and Ki67 genes
Census as a Strategy for Enhancing the Visibility of the Roma Population in Serbia
This paper investigates the population census as a pivotal instrument for
shaping socio-political dynamics concerning the Roma community in Serbia. It
focuses on the disparity between official statistics and estimated figures regarding
the Roma population, critically analyzing the mechanisms that construct Roma
identity and the narratives that underpin their representation. The author argues that
the census transcends its function as a mere statistical endeavor, serving instead as
a tool that both mirrors and actively constructs social power relations. The study
examines the historical and structural conditions that have fostered the Roma
community's mistrust of institutional frameworks and their hesitation to publicly
assert their ethnic identity. Particular attention is devoted to the role of the state and
non-governmental organizations in self-identification campaigns, which frequently
reproduce a static and essentialized conceptualization of Roma identity. The paper
provides a case study analysis of the “Proud Roma in Free Serbia” campaign,
emphasizing its capacity to empower the Roma community while simultaneously
exposing the risk of reinforcing the dependency of Roma identity on majority
perceptions.
War and Peace within Interwar Yugoslav Radical Right Circles
The aim of this paper is to analyse the attitudes towards war and peace, as
well as militarism and pacifism, present within interwar Yugoslav right-wing political
organizations and intellectuals. The analysis covered the most important integral
Yugoslav nationalist organizations such as the Organizacija jugoslovenskih nacionalista
(Organization of Yugoslav Nationalists), Jugoslovenska akcija (Yugoslav Action),
Jugoslovenska narodna stranka (Yugoslav Popular Party) and the Jugoslovenski narodni
pokret Zbor (Yugoslav National Movement Zbor). It identifies two key concepts within
the rightist interpretations of war: as a potent regenerative force on both a personal and
a national level, and as a way of securing the living space for the nation. There was a
general disdain towards pacifist tendencies. However, as the Second World War loomed
on the horizon, this bellicose rhetoric was replaced by propagating neutrality
Investigating structural and optical properties of Eu3+-doped MgGd2Zr2O8 for application in optical thermometry
This study presents the synthesis and characterization of a novel luminescent material, MgGd2Zr2O8 doped with (2, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 at%) Eu3+ ions, and explores its potential application in optical thermometry. The samples were synthesized via a simple sol–gel route and subsequently thermally treated for 4 hours at 850 °C. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) analysis combined with Rietveld refinement revealed that the obtained samples crystallize in a fluorite-type cubic structure (space group Fm3̅m), exhibiting crystallite sizes of approximately 7 nm and a lattice parameter expansion attributed to Mg²⁺ ions preferentially occupying interstitial or vacant sites. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that the material consists of irregularly shaped aggregates formed by the clustering of smaller particles (<100 nm). High-resolution TEM images confirmed the crystalline nature of the sample, with lattice planes consistent with XRPD results and crystallite sizes below 10 nm. Elemental mapping obtained through energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) showed a homogeneous spatial distribution of all constituent elements. Photoluminescence (PL) spectra displayed characteristic Eu³⁺ emission transitions from the ⁵D₀ excited state to the 7FJ (J = 1– 4) levels. The optimal dopant concentration was determined to be 15 at%, beyond which concentration quenching occurred. Temperature-dependent luminescence measurements were performed in the 300–550 K range using the luminescence intensity ratio (LIR) method, based on non-thermally coupled transitions ⁵D₀ → ⁷F₁ and ⁵D₀ → ⁷F₂. The maximum relative sensitivity of 0.3 % K⁻¹ at 550 K was achieved for the LIR592/612 ratio, while the LIR586/612 ratio showed a more moderate, yet stable sensitivity of approximately 0.1 % K⁻¹ at temperatures above 430 K.Twenty-Third Young Researchers' Conference Materials Science and Engineering, December 3-5, 2025, Belgrade, Serbia

An Attempt to Reform Communism: The Relations between the Yugoslav and Italian Communists in 1956 and 1968
This article examines the impact of the events from 1956 and 1968 on the relations
between the Italian and Yugoslav communists. The collaboration between the Italian
Communist Party (pci) and the League of Communists of Yugoslavia (lcy) was crucially
influenced by these two periods of crises in international communism. During
1956 and 1968 the two parties were closely collaborating. Their closeness was based on
the mutual wish to undermine the Soviet hegemony in the global communist movement.
In their contacts during the two years, the pci and lcy started devising antihegemonic
views and policies. Although such a dissenting alliance was halted by the
pci’s dependence on Moscow, the episodes from 1956 and 1968 had a lasting impact.
They were roots of a fruitful alliance between the pci and Belgrade in the 1970’s, during
the Eurocommunist era in pci’s foreign policy
Reception of Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hadjidakis in Serbian Historiography and Cultural Memory
This paper explores the reception of the works and cultural roles of two prominent Greek composers, Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hadjidakis, within Serbian historiography and cultural memory, situated within the broader context of Yugoslav and post-Yugoslav cultural dynamics. Theodorakis’s music and political activism – as emblematic of resistance and leftist values – are considered in relation to how they were articulated within the ideological and aesthetic narratives of socialist Serbia, and how they have been reinterpreted in various post-socialist contexts. His visibility in academic writing, the press, and public discourse reveals a multifaceted process of cultural adaptation shaped by political and aesthetic expectations. In contrast, Manos Hadjidakis appears only sporadically in Serbian sources, suggesting a structural asymmetry in the reception of the two composers. This absence is not merely a bibliographic detail, but an analytical indicator of selective mechanisms that govern cultural visibility and memory. The comparative lack of attention to Hadjidakis raises questions about which artistic figures were seen as ideologically legible or culturally instrumental within local narratives of internationalism and resistance
