Multifunctional Nanomaterial-Integrated Hydrogels for Sustained Drug Delivery: From Synthesis and Characterization to Biomedical Application
Hydrogels have emerged as versatile platforms for controlled and sustained drug delivery due to their high biocompatibility, tunable mechanical properties, and ability to mimic the natural extracellular matrix. Incorporating functional nanomaterials into hydrogel networks introduces additional structural and functional complexity, enabling stimuli-responsive release, enhanced bioactivity, and synergistic therapeutic effects. This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent advances in the design, fabrication, and characterization of nanomaterial-integrated hydrogels for biomedical applications. Emphasis is placed on nanoparticle synthesis, functionalization strategies, incorporation into hydrogel matrices, physicochemical characterization, and biological aspects, including cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, antioxidative, and antibacterial effects. Emerging approaches for performance optimization, such as preliminary data-driven strategies and machine learning-based modeling, are also discussed. Special attention is given to smart and stimuli-responsive hydrogels and their potential biomedical applications
Preparation of CuWO4 films by thermal annealing of simultaneously RF/DC magnetron co-sputtered Cu–W films
Tungstate-based compounds have garnered significant interest for applications in photocatalysis, optoelectronics, and energy-related technologies due to their distinctive structural, optical, and electronic properties. This study focuses on the synthesis, structural characterization, and optical properties of copper (II) tungstate (CuWO4) thin films, produced via co-sputtering of metal precursors followed by thermal annealing in air at temperatures ranging from 450 to 650 °C. XRD and Vis-NIR spectroscopy confirmed that annealing at 600 °C yields CuWO4 films with the highest crystallinity and the lowest indirect band gap of 2.09 eV. A comprehensive analysis of the films' surface morphology, phase composition, and chemical states was conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results confirm the formation of highly crystalline CuWO4 films with a triclinic structure. Additional structural insights were obtained from Raman and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, which revealed vibrational modes associated with the WO6 octahedral units. These films should be further explored for their potential applications in photocatalysis and photoelectrochemical cells
Synergystic properties of dual phase (Hf,Ti,Zr)B2–(Hf,Ti,Zr)C ceramics
Dual phase mid entropy carbide/ boride ceramics were produced by boro/carbothermal reduction followed by spark plasma sintering. Based on the transition metal distribution in the dual phase ceramics, individual mid entropy boride and carbide ceramics were produced. The hardness value for the dual phase ceramic was 43.5 ± 5.1 GPa at a load of 0.49 N while value calculated using a volumetric rule of mixtures was 36.2 GPa based on measured hardness values of the constituents. Thermal conductivity of the optimized dual phase ceramic was ∼15 % higher than the constituent single phases. The dual phase ceramic also had an electrical resistivity that was ∼35 % lower than the value calculated from the individual constituents. For the dual phase ceramic, the phonon contribution was approximately 44 % of the total conductivity, indicating that the mid entropy boride phase had a dominant effect on the electrical resistivity of the dual phase ceramic. This is the peer reviewed version of the paper: Filipović, Suzana, Fahrenholtz, William.G., Hilmas, Gregory E., Obradović, Nina, Curtarolo, Stefano, "Synergystic properties of dual phase (Hf,Ti,Zr)B2–(Hf,Ti,Zr)C ceramics" in Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 45, no. 12 (2025):117448, [https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jeurceramsoc.2025.117448
PVDF/ZnO nanocomposite applications in the development of piezoelectric MEMS sensors: Theoretical Considerations
Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is a semi-crystalline polymer known for its excellent pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties. While its dielectric permittivity is lower than that of piezoelectric ceramics, PVDF offers notable advantages for sensing applications, such as low density, mechanical flexibility, and toughness. These characteristics have made PVDF a popular choice in MEMS technology, as well as in ultrasound transducers and medical ultrasound systems. PVDF can crystallize into five different phases -phase is the most desirable for MEMS applications due to its superior electroactive properties. The analysis of PVDF and PVDF-based nanocomposites with ZnO as a filler has shown that the proportion of the beta phase increases with the addition of mechanically activated ZnO powder, thereby improving the piezoelectric properties of the material. These materials could therefore find applications in the development of piezoelectric MEMS sensors. Among them are highly sensitive chemical and biological thin film bulk acoustic wave resonant (FBAR) sensors. In this paper we presented the results of the theoretical analysis of sensor noise, which arises from the stochastic nature of the physical processes underlying the operation of adsorption sensors. Such analysis is important since it enables the estimation of sensors' limiting performance, and provides the guidelines for the optimization of sensor design during the development process

Salivanje strave: etnomedicinska praksa topljenja olova u Jadru i Rađevini
svojstvima biljaka, salivanje strave predstavlja daleko najrasprostranjeniju etnomedicinsku
praksu u ovom regionu.
The article presents a study of a traditional method for treating fear, anxiety, and other psychosomatic discomforts in children and adults, caused by an evil eye or specific trauma, through the magical technique of lead pouring. The paper examines the process of acquiring and transmitting this knowledge, as well as the social role of the practice and its practitioners in the everyday life of villagers from the Jadar and Rađevina regions. Alongside the significant presence of ethnobotanical knowledge concerning the healing properties of plants, lead pouring represents by far the most widespread ethnomedical practice in this area.
The magical technique itself involves taking a child or an adult who has been “frightened” to the home of an elderly woman who has inherited this knowledge through the female line. She covers the afflicted person with a red woolen cloth and pours molten lead into a bowl of water above their head, stomach, and legs, while uttering incantations. The cracking sound produced by the thermal reaction is considered an essential part of the ritual. After several repetitions, during which fear is believed to be “drawn out,” the cooled lead takes on a shape from which the cause of the trauma may be divined; the metal is then thrown into a river.
This magical healing practice, in addition to being found in the Podrinje region, is also present among the Muslim population of Bosnia and Herzegovina and originates from the Turkish tradition of lead casting for healing and divination purposes, known as kurşun dökme. The field research was conducted on several occasions over a five-year period (2018–2023), using participant observation and in-depth interviews with practitioners and patients
Popular folk music encompasses a wide spectrum of musical practices associated
with the “broad popular masses.” In addition to reflecting diverse historical,
economic, political, social, and cultural conditions, it also functions as a powerful
marker of identity, playing a key role in the construction of cultural belonging.
The emergence of local popular folk music can be traced back to the mid-
20th century, shaped by intensified intercultural exchange, the development
of musical technologies, the professionalization and stylization of traditional
folk forms, as well as the institutionalization of the popular music industry.
Within broader socio-political frameworks, this complex musical form has been
deeply embedded in political “struggles” and negotiations over the articulation
of an optimal national identity. The trajectory of popular folk music — from
neo-folk and turbo-folk to contemporary folk forms such as pop-folk, trapfolk, and folk-drill — reflects a historically contingent and contextually specific
transformation shaped by a range of interrelated factors: a) technological shifts
— from gramophones and radio to digital platforms and artificial intelligence,
b) epistemological shifts — from modernist to postmodernist paradigm, and
c) broader social, cultural, economic, and political transformations (socialism,
post-socialist transition, neoliberalism). These factors serve as the analytical backbone of the paper and as key contextual and conceptual nodes in an effort
to offer a brief and modest reconstruction of the historical trajectory and
transformation of this complex and dynamic phenomenon.

The Serbian Covenant System
In Serbian culture and tradition, both in the past as well as
today, pledges have a special influence and a complex meaning,
primarily in accordance with the initial importance of the St.
Sava and Kosovo Covenant. However, the mentioned covenants
are not the only ones, and by analysing the mutual relationship of
several basic Serbian covenants, we notice that (in the structural
semantic sense) they are intertwined with each other. At the same
time, it can be said that jointly they form a unique system of Serbian
covenants. Within this system, several specific determining
relations are observed, primarily related to the spatial context,
but also to other indicators. The role of Serbian covenants in
modern circumstances are very important, primarily because of
their connection with Serbian key ideological systems and their
influence on defining ideas about the historical mission, as well as
in preventing attempts to deconstruct the Serbian identity.
