    No full text
The object of this research are headlines in digital media, collected during the election campaign for parliament elections in Serbia in 2023. The corpus comprises the news headlines from the Informer, Kurir, N1 and Nova S portals. In order to illuminate the process of labelling in the political disourse more closely, the focus of the paper is on the manners of representing public agents in the headlines, with the assumption that direct labelling will appear, most rarely in so-called clickbaits headlines. In the further analysis linguistic-stylistic means are isolated which are used to delegitimise the competitors, aiming to evidence the mechanisms of delegitimisation and legitimation throughout the election process

Coupling of the planning and power system analysis software for high-level penetration of renewable energy sources

    No full text
The ambitious electricity production investments might have a degree of uncertainty if current or planned power grid is not analyzed. Strategic planning of the national energy system using only EnergyPLAN annual simulations could be inaccurate resulting in wrong planning decisions because EnergyPLAN does not take power grid into account. Therefore, there is a need to analyze power grid using power system solver in order to complete evaluation of electricity production investments. To address this need, EnergyPLAN and the power system solver CASE are coupled by upgrading CASE to import output files generated by EnergyPLAN. Once the data is imported, CASE allocates the total electricity production across individual power plants based on predefined distribution coefficients, and distributes total consumption to system nodes proportionally to the existing connected loads. Thus, a power system model for load flow calculation is automatically created and calculations are performed for each hour of the year. The goal of this paper is to present original implementation of the coupling of two software tools in the first place, which has not been realized until now, as well as the presentation of the calculation results in the second place. The presented results were selected for being the most interesting among the numerous hours of the year using simulation model of real power system of Republic of Serbia upgraded with planned large renewable electricity production. The result of the work is the coupling of two software tools with a goal of more accurate power system planning. The coupling provides a way to investigate if various scenarios of planned electricity production could be realized regarding transmission grid load flows

Nationalism, Clientelism, and Green Transition: Econativism and Environmental Politics in Pljevlja, Montenegro

    No full text
This article explores the interplay between environmentalism, nationalism, and clientelism in the town of Pljevlja, Northern Montenegro. The environmental and economic transformations driven by European Union integration have placed Pljevlja at the center of both ecological degradation and political struggles. Using an interdisciplinary approach that combines political anthropology, mining studies, and legal analysis, the study examines the rise of “econativism,” where environmental and nationalist discourses merge to form powerful local movements. Through ethnographic research conducted in two phases between 2015 and 2023, the article highlights how environmental issues, especially air pollution, are intertwined with identity politics, ethnic clientelism, and shifting political dynamics. The findings reveal that opposition parties successfully used environmental concerns in the lead-up to Montenegro’s 2020 political changes, only for environmental activism to decline after their ascent to power. The case study of Pljevlja offers critical insights into the potential and limitations of econativism as a political force, emphasizing that identity-driven narratives can co-opt ecological activism which dissipates when political goals are achieved

Preservation of Vernacular Cultural Landscape and Sustainable Tourism: A Case Study from the Western Carpatho-Balkan Region

    No full text
This research examines the role of preserving the vernacular cultural landscape in sustainable tourism, with a focus on the Stara Planina area in Serbia. The goal was to determine how the perception of cultural heritage preservation, the use of resources and the impact of European regulations shape attitudes about sustainable tourism among tourists and local residents. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), multiple group analysis (MGA), and machine learning (Random Forest and Gradient Boosting), clear differences in perception were revealed: tourists more strongly associate the preservation of the vernacular landscape with sustainability, while local residents prioritize economic benefits. Generational analyses indicated that younger groups are more supportive of European regulations and environmental measures, while older populations show a more pragmatic approach. The findings confirm that EU regulations have a significant moderating effect in shaping attitudes about sustainability and balancing cultural and economic goals. This work expands the understanding of the relationship between the preservation of vernacular architecture and tourism policy in non-EU countries, offering a theoretical and practical framework that can contribute to shaping sustainable development models not only for Serbia but also for other rural regions of Europe and the world that strive to preserve an authentic cultural landscape

Effect of the transition metal segregation on the properties of (Hf,Ti,Zr)B2–(Hf,Ti,Zr)C Dual Phase Ceramics

    No full text
Dual phase mid entropy ceramics are attractive due to potential synergistic effects of the constituents on mechanical properties and thermal stability. The co-synthesis method was used to obtain boride and carbide constituents by boro/carbothermal reduction of mixtures of oxides and appropriate amounts of carbon black and B4C. Solid solution formation and densification of the reacted powders were done at 1900 °C or 1950 °C utilizing two-step spark plasma sintering. Chemical compositions were measured using energy dispersive spectroscopy. Based on the transition metal distribution in the dual phase ceramic, individual mid entropy boride and carbide ceramics were produced using the same conditions. The final microstructures had submicron grains due to the pinning effect of the two phases, while grain sizes of the individual mid entropy carbides and borides were higher than the two-phase ceramics. Vickers hardness values for dual phase ceramics were higher than values calculated using a volumetric rule mixtures from individual components. Thermal and electrical properties were also higher values than calculated using volumetric rule mixtures of individual components. Thermal conductivity of the optimized dual phase ceramic produced at 1950 °C displayed an increase of ~15% compared to the constituent phases

Synthesis and Characterization of (CrMoTaVW)C1+δ High-Entropy Carbide Ceramic

    No full text
In recent years, high-entropy carbides (HECs) have attracted significant interest due to their exceptional physical properties. This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of single-phase HEC ceramics with the composition CrMoTaVW)C1+δ. These ceramics were synthesized using commercially available metal-oxide and carbon powders through a carbothermal reduction process. The resultant five-metal carbide powders were densified by spark plasma sintering (SPS) at varying temperatures to control grain size and microstructure. The microstructural and compositional analyses were performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal structure of these compositions was confirmed through X-ray diffraction (XRD), with lattice parameters determined using Rietveld refinement to compare ceramics grown under different conditions. Additionally, this work reports the electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of these HECs synthesized under various conditions

“Kohn dichotomy” and the discourses of Serbian nationalism (c. 1890-1914)

The paper analyzes the possibilities of approaching the discourses of Serbian nationalism (c. 1890–1914) through the concepts of the “Kohn dichotomy”, a framework developed by one of the early researchers of nationalism, Hans Kohn. Kohn argued that there are two forms of nationalism: political (civic) and cultural (ethnic). He associated the “civic” form with Western Europe, while the Central and Eastern parts of the continent were marked by an “ethnic” model. Although Kohn’s model has faced challenges within nationalism studies notably over the past two decades, it remains an influential division. By examining selected quotes from Serbian nationalist discourses and comparing them with ideas on the state-run reshaping of national identity in Ottoman Macedonia at the turn of the century, it is evident that Serbian nationalism’s features were entirely contrary to the principles of “ethnic nationalism”. According to Kohn’s dichotomy, Serbian nationalism should align with the “Eastern”, “cultural” or “ethnic” model, which is typically based on myths, shared narratives of origin, and common territory. However, in the last decades of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Serbian nationalism does not correspond to this imagined framework. Basing the approach primarily on the works of John Breuilly and Rogers Brubaker, the paper contributes to the study of nationalism by highlighting that overly schematic representations fail to capture its full complexity

It is known that musical-folklore practices are very vital forms that are prone to changes, different influences and transformations in relation to certain “original” and ”authentic” models in the form of the tradition. One of such reflections of the folk music vocal-instrumental tradition is so called “grupno” (group) singing to the accompaniment of gusle, recognized as a product of recent times. Its spread and popularity outside the “motherland” (today’s state of Montenegro) was transferred in various ways to other parts, including both “related” Herzegovina and certain parts of Bosnia. The focus of the paper will be “grupno” (group) singing with the accompaniment of gusle in the area of Central-Eastern Bosnia viewed through different diachronic and synchronic perspectives through function, repertoire, (musical) structure, genre, relationship to tradition, etc. which will provide a starting point for studying this current and living folklore creation in a given cultural-musical climate
