    Reversing diabetes: myth or reality?

    Long gone are the days when men added knowledge and drew on maps, New Lands, in a time called DISCOVERIES, where the motivation to find new foods - spices, sugar cane, coffee - gave strength to install the company SLAVERY that, with blood, sweat and tears developed the production of sugar that has never stopped until today and as far as we can read in this fantasy mantle that has fed the world until our time, will never end!  The Ebers Papyrus from Ancient Egypt already mentioned diabetes, which has never disappeared and has instead become the biggest silent epidemic of our time, giving life to a multitude of diseases and their treatments that make the pharmaceutical industry happy with the billions it makes every year! In recent years, Quaternary Prevention has given hope to all those whoanother look at the problem of health/disease, invest in new lifestyles, accept the importance of lifestyles, accepting the importance of diet and physical exercise in daily metabolic control metabolic control, will be able to reverse this phantom disease / type II and III diabetes, which has come from the night of time and is now enormously widespread, even contributing to Alzheimer’s disease.     Profile of palliative care professionals and impact of the interdisciplinary team: integrative review

    Introduction: Palliative Care (PC) is implemented through a holistic and interdisciplinary approach aimed at providing support and comfort to the person and their caregivers/family. The teams are composed of highly qualified professionals with skills acquired through continuous training. PC is humanized care centered on addressing the suffering of the person and/or family with life-limiting conditions (LLC). Objectives: To identify the profile of PC professionals and understand the impact of interdisciplinary team practice in PC. Method: An integrative review was conducted on articles published between 2012 and 2024, with previously established inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research was carried out in the following databases: CINAHL Complete (EBSCO Host), Medline Complete (EBSCO Host), PubMed, and the Cochrane Library, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish languages. Results: A total of 23 studies were included, and their analysis allowed us to address the defined objectives through grouping into three categories, aligned with Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring: the profile of the PC professional, the impact of interdisciplinary practice in PC, and recommendations for improvements. Discussion of Results: The profile of PC professionals tends to facilitate the care provided, being based on experience and training. Interdisciplinary teamwork in PC is innovative and improves the quality of care, contributing to the satisfaction of professionals working with people in palliative situations. Conclusion: Despite the analyzed studies indicating that professionals recognize the need to provide higher quality care, the training and knowledge in PC were referred to as limited. The lack of experience and training in PC was identified as a limiting factor in the provision of efficient care, with professionals reporting difficulties in dealing with the person, caregivers, and family members. The need to improve care through advanced training, allowing for an effective enhancement of the support provided, was acknowledged.Introdução: Os Cuidados Paliativos (CP) são implementados mediante uma abordagem holística e interdisciplinar, visando proporcionar suporte e conforto à pessoa e aos seus cuidadores/família, sendo que as equipas são compostas por profissionais qualificados, com competências adquiridas mediante uma formação contínua. CP são cuidados humanizados centrados na abordagem do sofrimento da pessoa e/ou família com doença limitante de vida (DLV). Objetivos: Identificar o perfil do profissional de CP e compreender o impacte da prática da equipa interdisciplinar em CP. Método: Foi realizada uma revisão integrativa, de artigos publicados entre  2012 e 2024, com critérios de inclusão e exclusão previamente estabelecidos. A pesquisa foi realizada nas bases de dados: CINAHL Complete (EBSCO Host), Medline Complete (EBSCO Host), na PubMed e na Cochrane Library, nas línguas portuguesa, inglesa e espanhola. Resultados: Foram incluídos 23 estudos, a sua análise permitiu dar resposta aos objetivos definidos através do agrupamento em três categorias, alinhadas com a Teoria do Cuidado Humano de Jean Watson: perfil do profissional de CP, impacto da prática interdisciplinar em CP e recomendações para melhorias. Discussão dos resultados: O perfil dos profissionais em CP, é tendencialmente facilitador dos cuidados prestados, baseado em experiência e formação. O trabalho em equipa interdisciplinar em CP é inovador e melhora a qualidade dos cuidados, contribuindo para a satisfação dos profissionais que trabalham com pessoas em situação paliativa. Conclusão: Apesar de, nos estudos analisados, os profissionais reconhecerem a necessidade de providenciar cuidados de maior qualidade, a formação e os conhecimentos em CP foram referidos como limitados. A falta de experiência e prática em CP foi identificada como fator limitador na prestação de cuidados eficientes, sendo reportado pelos profissionais dificuldades em lidar com a pessoa, cuidadores e familiares.     Anxiety, depression and stress as explanatory factors of problematic use of social networks in high school students

    The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between problematic social media use and levels of anxiety, depression, and stress among adolescent students. The Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) and the Problematic Use of Social Media Questionnaire were administered to a sample of 1,164 students from Compulsory Secondary Education and the first year of Baccalaureate programs (M = 14.56; SD = 1.40). The data revealed positive and statistically significant correlations between problematic social media use and the variables of anxiety, depression, and stress. Furthermore, students classified as having high levels of problematic social media use reported significantly higher mean scores in anxiety, depression, and stress compared to those with moderate or low use. Additionally, the likelihood of exhibiting high problematic use increased by 1.18, 1.26, and 1.25 times for each one-unit increase in anxiety, depression, and stress, respectively. These findings underscore the need for preventive and intervention strategies targeting emotional difficulties among adolescents with problematic social media use.El uso problemático de las redes sociales en la adolescencia conlleva importantes problemas emocionales, destacando entre ellos la ansiedad, depresión y estrés. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la relación entre el uso problemático de las redes sociales y la ansiedad, depresión y estrés en estudiantes adolescentes. La Escala de Ansiedad, Depresión y Estrés 21 y el Cuestionario de Uso Problemático de las Redes Sociales fueron administrados a una muestra de 1164 estudiantes de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y 1º de Bachillerato (M = 14.56; DT = 1.40). Los datos hallaron correlaciones positivas y estadísticamente significativas entre el uso problemático de las redes sociales y la ansiedad, depresión y estrés. Asimismo, se halló que el grupo con un uso problemático de las redes sociales alto presentaban medias superiores en ansiedad, depresión y estrés con respecto al grupo de uso medio y bajo. Por otro lado, la probabilidad de tener un uso problemático de las redes sociales alto era 1.18, 1.26 y 1.25 veces más a medida que aumentaba una unidad la ansiedad, depresión y estrés, respectivamente. Estos datos confirman la necesidad de prevención e intervención de problemas emocionales en adolescentes con uso problemático de las redes sociales

    Validation of a methodology for the development of board games for clinical psychological use

    The objective of this research was to validate by expert judges a methodological proposal for the development  of board games for clinical psychological use. The study was of a quantitative descriptive type, with a non-experimental cross-sectional research design. There were 13 expert psychologists, with master’s and doctoral degrees, who participated as judges, and 3 undergraduate psychology students who applied the methodology in the design of board games. The validation was carried out with two questionnaires (one directed at the judges and the other at the students) that measured the relevance, relevance, adequacy and usefulness of the methodology. The results of the agreement between judges were analyzed with Aiken’s V test, obtaining an agreement of relevance Vo=0.85, adequacy Vo=0.89 and usefulness Vo=0.92. Regarding relevance, the judges and students agree that the manual constitutes an efficient guide with scientific evidence. The students reported an agreement that was analyzed with Aiken’s V test, obtaining a relevance of Vo=1.00, adequacy Vo=0.98 and usefulness Vo=0.96. It is concluded that this methodology is viable and reliable for use in the design of board games for clinical psychological use.La presente investigacion tuvo como objetivo validar por jueces expertos una propuesta metodológica para la elaboración de juegos de mesa de uso clínico psicológico. El estudio fue de tipo cuantitativo descriptivo, con un diseño de investigación no experimental transversal. Participaron 13 psicólogos(as) expertos, con grado de maestría y doctorado, que participaron como jueces y 3 estudiantes de licenciatura en psicología que aplicaron la metodología en el diseño de juegos de mesa. La validación se llevó a cabo con dos cuestionarios (uno dirigido a los jueces y otro a los estudiantes) que midieron la relevancia, pertinencia, adecuación y utilidad de la metodología. Los resultados de la concordancia entre jueces fueron analizados con la prueba W de Kendall, obteniendo un acuerdo de pertinencia w=0.94, adecuación w=0.91 y utilidad w=0.94. En cuanto a la relevancia los jueces y alumnos coinciden en que el manual constituye una guía eficiente con evidencia científica. Los estudiantes reportaron por su parte una concordancia en pertinencia de w=1.00, de adecuación w=0.98 y de utilidad w=0.96. Se concluye que esta metodología es viable y confiable para su uso en el diseño de juegos de mesa de uso clínico psicológico

    Screening of the comprehensive development of the early childhood in human mobility

    México es reconocido como un país de origen, tránsito y retorno que ha tenido un mayor flujo de personas en situación de movilidad humana; esta población se enfrenta a diversas situaciones de vulnerabilidad (violencia, discriminación, falta de acceso a la educación y servicios de salud, entre otras); particularmente cuando se trata de niños y niñas en primera infancia quienes pueden llegar a tener repercusiones significativas en su desarrollo integral; por tal motivo requieren de evaluaciones integrales inmediatas mediante un tamizaje. En esta investigación se aplicó la prueba Perfil de Desarrollo-3 (DP-3), que evalúa cinco dimensiones, con el objetivo de detectar las fortalezas y áreas de oportunidad en 18 primeras infancias en situación de movilidad humana que residían temporalmente en el Centro Integrador para el Migrante Carmen Serdán en Tijuana Baja California. En los resultados se detectó que la dimensión conducta adaptativa es la que más se promueve, aunado a la motricidad gruesa, fina y el lenguaje. Por otra parte, las áreas de oportunidad que se ubicaron fueron las dimensiones cognitiva y socioemocional aunque también son estimuladas por los cuidadores. Este tamizaje permitió apoyar a los cuidadores mediante estrategias sencillas y validar que el DP-3 es una herramienta eficiente en esta población.Mexico is recognized as a country of origin, transit, and return that has experienced a greater influx of people on  the move. This population faces various situations of vulnerability (violence, discrimination, lack of access to education and healthcare, among others), particularly when it comes to children in early childhood, who can have significant repercussions on their overall development. Therefore, they require immediate comprehensive assessments that can be conducted through screening. In this research applied the Developmental Profile-3 (DP-3) test, which evaluates five dimensions. The objective was to identify strengths and areas of opportunity in 18 early childhood children on the move who were temporarily residing at the Carmen Serdán Migrant Integration Center in Tijuana, Baja California. The results showed that the adaptive behavior dimension is the most promoted, along with gross and fine motor skills and language. On the other hand, the areas of opportunity identified were the cognitive and socioemotional dimensions, although these are also encouraged by caregivers. This screening allowed us to support caregivers through simple strategies and validate that the DP-3 is an effective tool for this population

    Inspirational pathways: innovative strategies to increase academic motivation in secondary school

    The educational intervention Project was implemented in a secondary school in Eastern Yucatán, aiming to strengthen school motivation among second-grade students. The issue was identified through an initial diagnostic that revealed low interest in learning and limited family involvement. The intervention included three didactic sequence base don differentiated instruction, the recognition of personal strengths, and the active participation of parents in the classroom. Results frem pre-and post testing indicate improvements in students academic motivation and their willingness to engage in a class activities. It is concluded tha collaborative work and emotional support hava a positive impacto on school engagement during adolescenceEste proyecto de intervención educativa se llevó a cabo en una escuela secundaria del oriente de Yucatán, con el objetivo de fortalecer la motivación escolar en estudiantes de tercer grado. La problemática se identificó a través de un diagnóstico inicial que evidenció bajó interés por el aprendizaje y escaso acompañamiento familiar. La intervención consistió en 3 secuencias didácticas de doce sesiones, basada en la enseñanza diferenciada, la valoración de fortalezas personales y la integración de padres y madres de familia en el aula. Los resultados, obtenidos mediante un pre y post test, muestran una mejora en los niveles de motivación académica y en la disposición de los estudiantes para participar activamente en clase. Se concluye que el trabajo colaborativo y el reconocimiento emocional inciden positivamente en el compromiso escolar durante la adolescencia

    Literature review on comorbidities of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder with other clinical conditions

    This study aims to carry out a bibliographic review of the scientific literature of the last 13 years (2010-2023) of the scientific articles included in the PudMed, Scielo and Academic Google database, with the aim of determining which are the most comorbid clinical pictures with the disorder attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). First, a general search was made for those articles that included the keywords “attention deficit hyperactivity disorder” and “comorbidity” in the Abstract, to carry out more specific searches from there. After this second, more systematic search, a pre-selection of articles by title was carried out. Subsequently, two more preselections were carried out based on the content of the Abstract. After the different filters applied, finally, 42 articles were selected that were analyzed in depth one by one in order to respond to the objective of this study. The review of the literature shows that the most comorbid disorders with ADHD were behavioral problems, learning disorders, risk of injury, anxiety and depression disorders, negativity defiant disorders (ODD) and affective disorder. It is necessary to highlight the existence of individual differences in all clinical manifestations, and that more important than knowing the comorbid categories with ADHD, is the realization of a dimensional approach to said conditions, since certain subclinical conditions may not be detected as comorbid if we approach them from a categorical approach.Este estudio tiene por objetivo realizar una revisión bibliográfica de la literatura científica de los últimos 13 años (2010-2023) de los artículos científicos incluidos en las bases de datos PudMed, Scielo y Google Académico con el objetivo de determinar cuáles son cuadros clínicos más comórbidos con el trastorno por déficit de atención con hiperactividad (TDAH). En primer lugar, se hizo una búsqueda general de aquellos artículos que incluyeran en el Abstract las palabras clave “attention deficit hyperactivity disorder” y “comorbidity”, para a partir  de ahí ir realizando búsquedas más específicas. Tras esta segunda búsqueda más sistemática, se llevó a cabo una preselección de artículos por título. Posteriormente, se llevaron a cabo dos preselecciones más en función del contenido del Abstract. Tras los distintos filtros aplicados, finalmente, se seleccionaron 42 artículos que fueron analizados con profundidad uno por uno para poder responder al objetivo de este estudio. La revisión de la literatura pone de manifiesto que los trastornos más comórbidos con el TDAH fueron los problemas comportamentales, trastornos del aprendizaje, riesgo de lesiones, trastornos de ansiedad y depresión, trastornos de negatividad desafiante (TND) y trastorno afectivo. Hay que destacar la existencia de diferencias individuales en toda manifestación clínica, y que más importante que conocer las categorías comórbidas con el TDAH, es la realización de un acercamiento dimensional a dichas condiciones, ya que ciertas condiciones subclínicas, pueden no estar siendo detectadas como comórbidas si nos acercamos a ellas desde una aproximación categorial

    Teacher support and school refusal: differences and predictive ability in adolescents

    Regular school attendance is essential for adolescents’ academic, social, and emotional development. The concept of school attendance problems encompasses various manifestations of absenteeism, with absenteeism standing out due to its high prevalence, affecting approximately 30% of students internationally. Within the school environment, perceived school climate, and specifically, teacher support, plays a crucial role in preventing absenteeism. In this context, the present study aims to examine differences in perceived teacher support between students with high and low levels of absenteeism, as well as the predictive value of this perception for identifying students at greater risk. Using a sample of 724 Spanish students, teacher support was assessed through the What’s Happening In This School? (WHITS) questionnaire, and unjustified absenteeism through the Assessing Reasons for School Non-attendance (ARSNA) scale. Results indicated that students with higher levels of unjustified absenteeism perceived significantly lower levels of teacher support. Moreover, lower perceived support predicted a higher likelihood of reporting unjustified school non-attendance. These findings highlight the protective role of teacher support against absenteeism and its relevance in fostering student well-being. The study emphasizes the need to promote educational strategies aimed at strengthening positive and socioemotional bonds between teachers and students. Despite limitations, such as the cross-sectional design and reliance on self-reported measures, the results reinforce the importance of incorporating teacher support into school policies to prevent unjustified absenteeism effectively.La asistencia escolar regular resulta esencial para el desarrollo académico, social y emocional de los adolescentes. Bajo el constructor de problemas de asistencia escolar, se agrupan diversas manifestaciones de inasistencia, destacando el absentismo injustificado por su elevada prevalencia, afectando aproximadamente al 30% del alumnado a nivel internacional. Dentro del contexto escolar, el clima percibido y, en particular, el apoyo del profesorado, adquieren un papel clave en la prevención de la no asistencia por razones injustificadas. En este marco, el presente estudio analiza las diferencias en la percepción del apoyo docente entre estudiantes con altos y bajos niveles de absentismo, así como su capacidad predictiva para anticipar la presencia de elevados niveles de inasistencia. ¿Con una muestra de 724 estudiantes españoles, se evaluó el apoyo percibido del profesorado mediante el cuestionario What’s Happening In This School? (WHITS) y la no asistencia escolar por faltas injustificadas a través del Assessing Reasons for School Non-attendance (ARSNA). Los resultados revelaron que los adolescentes con mayores niveles de absentismo injustificado percibían un apoyo docente significativamente menor, y que dicha percepción predecía una mayor probabilidad de presentar inasistencia injustificada. Estos hallazgos subrayan la función protectora del apoyo docente frente al absentismo y su influencia positiva en el bienestar estudiantil. Se destaca la necesidad de promover estrategias educativas que fortalezcan los vínculos afectivos y socioemocionales entre profesorado y alumnado. A pesar de las limitaciones inherentes al diseño transversal y al uso de autoinformes, los resultados refuerzan la importancia de incluir la mejora del clima escolar, y en particular del apoyo docente, en las políticas de prevención del absentismo injustificado en contextos educativos

    Psychological intervention of students with high abilities in a public university

    At the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo (UAEH), the Psychological Care Service is provided to increase passing, retention, and completion rates in Higher Education. Its general objective is to respond to the psycho-emotional needs of students throughout their academic career with timely follow-up. One of its goals is to promote coordinated actions focused on disadvantaged students to prevent risks. This begins with the application of a Context Diagnosis questionnaire to applicants that identifies risk factors and the type of individual attention they require. This communication presents the case of gifted students who, due to their condition, may experience personal, psychological, and educational problems that affect their admission, retention, and graduation. Another action to address these different needs is the training of psychologists through the Seminar on Identification, Psychopedagogical Evaluation, and Educational Intervention for Gifted Students, with the goal of providing them with basic tools for the process. This study presents a mixed-method approach, presenting the results of this seminar delivered to 60 psychologists from different UAEH institutes and higher education schools. The results obtained from a diagnostic test, training, and a posttest are analyzed, presented in four categories: a) False beliefs and the reality of general giftedness; b) False beliefs and the reality of giftedness in academic competence; c) False beliefs and the reality of giftedness in social competence and emotional characteristics; d) False beliefs and the reality of giftedness in intervention (Reche, 2025; Rodríguez, 2001). Among the findings and conclusions obtained through the seminar, the psychologists were able to analyze and discuss the initial beliefs and the different realities.En la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo (UAEH), el Programa Institucional de Atención Psicológica se proporciona para incrementar los índices de aprobación, retención y eficiencia terminal en la Educación Superior. Su objetivo General es dar respuesta a las necesidades psicoemocionales de los estudiantes, durante su trayectoria escolar con un seguimiento puntual, una de sus metas es impulsar acciones articuladas y enfocadas a los y las estudiantes en desventaja para prevenir riesgos, que inicia aplicando Diagnóstico de Contexto un cuestionario a los aspirantes que muestra factores de riesgo y el tipo de atención que requieren de una atención individual. En esta comunicación se presenta el caso de las y los estudiantes que presentan altas capacidades y que, por su condición, pueden manifestar problemas personales, psicológicos y educativos que afectan su ingreso, permanencia y egreso. Otra acción para dar respuesta a las diferentes necesidades es la capacitación de los psicólogos a través del Seminario de Identificación, Evaluación Psicopedagógica e Intervención Educativa de las y los Estudiantes con Altas Capacidades, con el objetivo de obtener herramientas básicas en el proceso. Se presenta el estudio con un enfoque mixto, mostrando los resultados de este seminario impartido a 60 psicólogos de los diferentes Institutos y Escuelas Superiores de la UAEH. Se analizan los resultados obtenidos de un test diagnóstico, la capacitación y un postest, presentados en cuatro categorías: a) Falsas creencias y la realidad de las altas capacidades generales; b) Falsas creencias y la realidad de las altas capacidades en competencia escolar; c) Falsas creencias y la realidad de las altas capacidades en competencia social y características emocionales; d) Falsas creencias y la realidad de las altas capacidades en intervención (Reche, 2025, Rodríguez, 2001). Entre los hallazgos y conclusiones obtenidas a través del seminario permitió analizar y discutir a los psicólogos las creencias iniciales y las diferentes realidades

    Communication and management of antibiotic therapy in palliative care: a narrative review

    Introduction: Palliative Care (PC) improves the quality of life of people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. It is considered active and coordinated care that ensures the principle of autonomy is respected. Thus, discussing the use of antibiotics in PC is of particular importance in decision-making. Objective: To understand how the communication process influences decision-making regarding the use of antibiotics in end-of-life care. Methodology: A narrative review was conducted using the databases MEDLINE Complete, CINAHL Complete, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Databases of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, and PubMed. Results: 14 studies focused on communication about the use of antibiotics in PC were included, addressing the study objective. The data were organized into seven categories, based on Leininger’s Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality: communication and interaction, decision-making, culturally sensitive care, quality of care, education and training, involvement of health professionals, ethics, and responsibility. Discussion of Results: The use of antibiotics at the end of life should strictly consider the benefits, guidelines for appropriate use, and the impact on the quality of life of the person, who should be involved in the decision-making process, prioritizing the principle of autonomy and contributing to the quality of care. Communication training is essential to ensure humanized care that aligns with the values of the person. Conclusions: Effective communication that respects people’s preferences is essential for appropriate decisions in PC. The lack of clear discussions leads to decisions misaligned with people’s wishes, compromising the continuity and quality of care, emphasizing the importance of continuous training.Introdução: Os Cuidados Paliativos (CP) melhoram a qualidade de vida das pessoas com doença limitante de vida e das suas famílias, sendo considerados cuidados ativos e coordenados, que asseguraram que o princípio da autonomia é respeitado. Desta forma, discutir o uso de antibióticos em CP, releva particular importância na  tomada de decisão. Objetivo: Compreender de que forma o processo de comunicação influencia a tomada de decisão relativa ao recurso a antibioterapia em pessoas em fim de vida. Metodologia: Foi realizada uma revisão narrativa nas bases de dados MEDLINE Complete, CINAHL Complete, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Databases of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register e PubMed. Resultados: Foram incluídos 14 estudos focados na comunicação sobre o uso de antibióticos em CP, dando resposta ao objetivo de estudo. Os dados foram organizados em sete categorias, tendo como referencial a Teoria da Diversidade e Universalidade do Cuidado Cultural de Leininger: comunicação e interação, tomada de decisão, cuidado culturalmente sensível, qualidade dos cuidados, educação e formação, envolvimento dos profissionais de saúde, ética e responsabilidade. Discussão de Resultados: O uso de antibióticos no final de vida deve considerar rigorosamente os benefícios, as diretrizes para o seu uso adequado e o impacte na qualidade de vida da pessoa, devendo esta ser envolvida na tomada de decisão, privilegiando o princípio da autonomia e contribuindo para a qualidade dos cuidados. A formação em comunicação é essencial, para garantir um cuidado humanizado, alinhado com os valores das pessoas. Conclusões: A comunicação eficaz, respeitando as preferências das pessoas, é essencial para decisões adequadas em CP, sendo que a falta de discussões claras leva a decisões desalinhadas com os desejos das pessoas, comprometendo a continuidade e a qualidade dos cuidados, destacando-se a importância da formação contínua
