Towards Developing an Immersive Virtual Reality Applications for Supporting Vision Screening – A User Study

Functional Vision Problems (FVPs) are problems related to eye musculature and/or eye coordination rather than visual acuity. Such problems are rarely diagonsed through standard vision control, and can get worse with age if not properly treated. However, a thorough vision screening of many requires enormous resources from society, which is not possible today. This paper illustrates current challenges to screen functional vision problems (FVPs) using immersive VR applications. For this, a laptop-based program for screening oculomotor difficulties (OMDs), which is a particular type of FVP, is transferred to a head-mounted display (HMD) with integrated eye-tracking technology (ET). The program records the participants\u27 small eye movements via ETs, e.g., fixation stability, saccades, and smooth pursuits during task performance, and allows examining irregularities pointing to OMDs. The paper illustrates the iterative development of the immersive VR program based on continuous feedback from a vision expert. Data was collected from a vision expert and 7 end-users. The results include user experience and usability evaluation of the immersive VR program compared to the laptop version. It discusses the necessity for having vision expertise during specific faces of the development process and presents critical issues for further development of applications utilizing eye movements for more accurate support for vision screening, e.g., issues regarding measuring depth perception and hand-eye coordinatio

The emergence of environmental education and sustainability education in the upper grades of primary school from the perspective of the students

The aim of the research is to assess the effectiveness of sustainability and environmental education among the upper secondary school students in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Heves County. The survey was done with the help of an online questionnaire, which included both open and closed questions, and used selective, scale and own opinion-based response. The aim was to map students\u27 attitudes which are based on environmental education at school and at home. As a result of the survey, we managed to get a momentary picture of the level of environmental attitudes of the future generation in the upper elementary school, together with its missing elements. The number of participants was 187. Lexical knowledge is stronger than its realization in practice. Students are more interested in environmental problems and are also informed, but environmentally conscious actions are not necessarily part of their daily lives

The relations between secondary vocational wildlife management training and the labor market in the dual education system

Hungary has a long history of training professional hunters and the quality of wildlife management is world-renowned. In my work, I used databases of professional organisations and questionnaire surveys to investigate the factors determining the training of professional hunters at the secondary level and the labour market conditions. Comparing the training conditions of neighbouring countries and Germany, it is clear that the training of professional hunters takes place in the highest number of institutions, with the longest, 5-year training period in Hungary. In the previous decades, Hungary has seen an increase in the number of training institutions, which has clearly led to an overeducation compared to the number of workplaces. The age distribution of active professional hunters shows that graduated professionals do not appear in the labour market. This is mainly due to the poor financial and moral standing of professionals. The feedback from those exercising the hunting rights is that it is difficult to find suitable professionals, while they are open to providing internships and participating in vocational training. The intention of employers and employees, the framework curriculum introduced in 2020, and the government\u27s Vocational Training 4.0 strategy open up a new dimension in quality, dual secondary vocational training in wildlife management

Natural Language Processing (NLP) is becoming increasingly important for researchers doing research in the field of information technology. However, NLP itself is not only used in the academic world, but is also a topic of interest in the competitive world, as it offers many opportunities for automation. The aim of this paper is to analyse and summarise the articles published on NLP from several perspectives, with a particular focus on the development and practical application of the technology, as well as to explore possible future research opportunities, directions and its potential role in industry. Among the practical applications of NLP, research and development in the field of education is increasingly being observed. In order to identify future uses, the underlying textual stocks of the technology should be considered. From this point of view, we can focus on the insurance and banking sectors, where there is a series of administrative processes where centralised paper processing is the incoming data set for the process and where a database dating back several years may be available.

Due to the widespread integration of ICT in education, both the participants in the teaching-learning process and the educational institutions themselves have become increasingly susceptible to cyber threats. It is imperative to implement adequate protective measures for several compelling reasons. These include safeguarding the personal data of students, teachers, and educational staff, ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of education through digital tools, preventing unauthorized access to intellectual property generated during research and development endeavors within higher education institutions, and promoting responsible and security-conscious digital competence development among students. Information security awareness plays a pivotal role in the overall defense strategy. For this research paper, I evaluated the level of security awareness among a particular group of students

The history of chatbots: the journey from psychological experiment to educational object

Chatbots represent a strong and distinctive theme in the current literature on technology in education. What is lacking, however, is an analysis of them in terms of historical development or deeper historical-discursive classification. This paper focuses on the history of chatbots and places it in the context of a critical reflection on studies focusing on chatbots as educational objects between 2006-2021. It offers an analysis of each study and places them in the context of the development of the field as a whole. The study identifies three vital discourses that can be identified in the development of chatbots from a historical perspective - Turing-oriented, Searle-oriented and educational interaction-oriented

This study examines the impact of social media on teaching and learning and on the world of work. By way of introduction, the authors will summarise the characteristics of digitalisation, the nature of the internet and social media in particular, and they will discuss the phenomena that have emerged in the information society and that are having an increasing impact on the world of learning and work. These include being always online, the visual turn, multitasking in two senses, a shortened attention span, the fear of missing out, the transformation of human memory use, the strengthening of creative processes, the experience of flow, rapid orientation, greater autonomy or even the ability to live with mistakes. These processes are leading to the emergence of the concept of creative disruption of technology, which is now being understood beyond the economy and into education. Ilyenek például a folyamatos online lét, a képi fordulat, a multitasking , a lerövidült figyelem, a kimaradástól való félelem, az emberi memóriahasználat átalakulása, a kreatív folyamatok erősödése, a flow élménye, a gyors tájékozódás, a nagyobb autonómia ill. akár a hibákkal való együttélés képességét. Ezek a folyamatok a technológia disruptív koncepciójának megjelenéséhez vezetnek, amelyet ma már a gazdaságon túl és az oktatásban is megértenek

Teachers’ evaluation of recent changes in the school subject environmental knowledge

Nowadays, in Hungary, the Framework Curricula determine the requirements of education. Currently, education is provided by the requirements of the 2012 and 2020 National Core Curricula (2020, hereinafter NAT). The latter shall be applied in the ascending system from the 2020/2021 school year onwards. With the introduction of the new NAT, several changes have taken place in the subjects. These changes also had a major impact on the subject of environmental education. Our research aimed to assess the knowledge of environmental education educators on the topic of wildlife and to examine their views on the new 2020 NAT. The results presented in the article show that the topic of wildlife, which was the 2nd-grade curriculum according to the 2012 NAT, will be left out of the lower grade curriculum with the introduction of the 2020 NAT. This step could deprive students of any knowledge at school about this topic. The research carried out reveals that teachers in the lower grades of public education do not have adequate and accurate knowledge of the subject
