Under a double burden - analysing the professional and pedagogical identity of vocational teachers in an international context
The aim of the study is to explore the dual identity of vocational teachers: the elements of "professionalism" and "teacherhood". Both in their training and in their work as teachers/teachers, professional knowledge is a prerequisite, which also serves as the basis for their teacher qualification. This dichotomy, an area of research in the international literature, can help to describe the activities of this particular group of teachers, improve their training situation and, above all, contribute to supporting measures to overcome the shortage of teachers in vocational training, and to promote the spread of short-cycle and in-service training. The study also makes recommendations for the Hungarian system based on international examples and comparisons. Along the analysis, the characteristics of the vocational teacher group and the role of training institutions in their effective professional socialisation become clear.
Efficiency of interactive financial education model: Evidence from high school and university students:
The objective of this study is to bring new model of financial literacy education for youngsters at high school and college/university, through the use of active pedagogical and didactic methodologies. This study designs new model which serves as a preparation strategy for the PISA test (Program for International Student Assessment) as an alternative to improve financial lives. The method applied was investigation-action in four steps: a) construction of the model, b) implementation, c) testing, and d) improvements in order to develop pedagogical and didactic strategies that improve financial literacy. The model was applied in Colombia to 200 high school students, and 150 university students. It was found that the proposed interactive action learning model stimulates learning through competitiveness and yields positive results at financial knowledge for making appropriate financial decisions for both high school and university students. The results show the use of active pedagogies, through role play, contests, and decision making, generates better knowledge appropriation tools, making the learning model more effective in financial education. The results show significant improvement in the knowledge level of both high school and university students
Literacy levels in small villages in relation to local primary school
The question is increasingly being asked at the beginning of the 21st century: does literacy still have a raison d\u27être? In the information society, all data and knowledge is at our fingertips thanks to the computer networks that surround our entire world and the data warehouses that are now becoming indeterminate in size. Is literacy and its level the same today as it was fifty years ago? Have the concepts that became popular at the end of the 20th century - competence and skills - influenced this in any way? What do people in small towns and villages think about literacy and its importance? Can the local small school and its staff play a role in changing the literacy levels of communities, and can they be expected to do so? Does the tangible proximity of artificial intelligence not pose a threat to literacy and cause its devaluation, deterioration and decline? This study seeks to answer these questions by presenting and evaluating the results of questionnaires filled in by people living in a small area. At the end of the study, it draws conclusions based on the results and presents further tasks that, if carried out, will provide an even broader insight into the relationship between literacy in small villages and the local primary school.
Qualitative analysis of international strategic trends pertaining to the digital ecosystems of libraries
The principal driving force behind contemporary changes is the Fourth Industrial Revolution. While similarly to previous industrial revolutions the Fourth Industrial Revolution radically altered technology, economy and society, the latter displays an exponential growth as compared to the linear development of the former. Consequently, cyber-physical systems emerge blurring the distinction between hardware and software, and take advantage of the options provided by networks and artificial intelligence. Furthermore, communication takes place not only between humans but machines as well (Schwab, 2015). The Fourth Industrial Revolution results in a cultural paradigm shift and dramatically changes how society functions. Since the library has a complex role as an information system and as a culture and value transmitting institution it is extremely sensitive to these developments. Therefore in order to preserve their competitive edge, libraries must continuously and adaptively respond to the given changes. In our essay we explore the impact of the respective paradigm shift on libraries and identify external factors influencing library ecosystems and the related expectations. We will provide a definition for the digital ecosystem of libraries followed by a trend analysis of the given components’ actual role and the extent of their effect on library strategies. We base our conclusions on a software supported content analysis of strategic documents issued by several international library organizations (IFLA 2013-2024, ALA 2017-2022)
Tanulási stílus azonosításának támogatása szemmozgáskövető technológiával egy adaptív e-tanulási rendszerben
In my study, I propose an approach for automatic detection of visual and verbal learning styles in an adaptive e-learning system (https://aes.negyesipeter.hu) I have developed, based on eye-tracking technology. In the online study, I used GazeRecorder eye-tracking software to record the time participants spent looking at text- or graph-based learning objects. The entire study lasted an average of 25 minutes, depending on the participants\u27 reading speed, reading comprehension and calibration process. 255 participants took part in the current study, 60% of whom were high school students (N1 = 153) and 40% of whom were first-year university students (N2 = 102). However, due to a calibration problem, 204 valid data were obtained. Of these, 179 had normal vision and the rest (25) wore glasses. A cross-sectional analysis of the heat maps for each user showed that there was a significant difference between visual and verbal learners; verbal learners spent most of their time looking at the textual part of the screen, while visual learners spent more time looking at the graphical part of the screen. Moreover, the results show a high correlation between Felder-Silverman learning style and eye movements recorded during learning. The results have important implications for the development of more effective adaptive e-learning systems. The ability to automatically identify learning styles can greatly improve the personalised learning experience
