    No full text
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, and life to everything.” - Plato Music makes a big difference to the baby brain. One study from the Institute of Learning and Brain Sciences detected that after babies listen to music, their auditory and prefrontal cortexes look different. These are the regions of the brains in charge of processing both music and speech.  When young children interact with others, the positive effects of listening to music have been seen to extend to personality traits, like being helpful and cooperative. A 2016 study at the University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity Institute found that musical experiences in childhood can actually accelerate brain development, particularly in the areas of language acquisition and reading skills. According to the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM Foundation), learning to play an instrument can improve mathematical learning and even increase SAT scores. Academic achievement is not the only benefit of music education and exposure. Music ignites all areas of child development and skills for school readiness, including intellectual, social- emotional motor, language, and overall literacy. It helps the body and the mind work together. Exposing children to music during early development helps them to learn the sounds and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression. For children and adults, music helps strengthen memory skills. In addition to the developmental benefits, music brings joy. The same joy is experienced while listening to a good song in the car with the window down on a beautiful day. This review paper throws light on the benefits of music among children emphasising its value in dental practise for effective behaviour management

    No full text
Background: Home exercise programs (HEP) are essential in managing cerebral palsy(CP), and caregivers who care for the children at home play a significant role in HEP. But, some factors contribute to adhering to home exercise programs (HEP). It is essential to identify the factors associated with adherence. This research aims to assess caregiver adherence to home exercise programs for children with cerebral palsy and the factors influencing it. Methods: The research was conducted with 150 participants using a cross-sectional survey design. A previous study\u27s self-reported questionnaire examined the caregivers\u27 adherence to the home exercise program and the factors contributing to adherence by the caregivers. Results: The study found that most caregivers129 (89.6%) had a thorough knowledge of the exercise program. However, 92 (63.9%) caregivers were non-adherent, while only 52 (36.1%) were adherent to the exercise program and could not predict any significant association with their sociodemographic characteristics. Both the groups (non-adherent and adherent reported overall satisfaction with the attention from the physiotherapist. Backward step regression also predicted the significant association of non-adherence with the parent as caregiver. The factors that influence adherence to the home exercise program’ were knowledge about the home exercise program ‘confidence in performing the home exercise program and support from the partner.’ Conclusion: The study concludes that the low adherence to the home exercise program was caused by several factors involving the caregiver, the therapist, and the exercise regimen. Exercise therapy knowledge, parents\u27 confidence, and support from the partner enhanced adherence to exercise therapy

Working Memory And Inhibition In People With Broca\u27s Aphasia

    No full text
Language and cognitive functioning allow human beings to interact and adapt to the demands of the world around them; in this sense, people with Broca\u27s aphasia (PWBA) present a deficit which can seriously hamper their social autonomy. The interest of the present study is to evaluate cognitive functions relating to working memory (WM), and inhibition in 15 people with Broca\u27s aphasia (PWBA group), in comparison with 15 healthy people (healthy group), which have the same characteristics. The analysis of intergroup differences shows that there is indeed a deficit in these functions in the PWBA group. The decline in the ability to maintain information at the WM level seems to explain the difficulties observed for the inhibition of distractors and attentional control. Age in the PWBA group is an aggravating factor. The speech therapy treatment provided to PWBA must take into consideration the deficits of these functions, which are strongly involved in language, in order to guarantee good language recovery
