Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future. John F. Kennedy Children are the stepping stones of success and development in a country. They could be considered as the flowers with breathtaking fragrance in the garden of people. As the responsible citizens of our country, it is our duty to protect them. It is important that every child is looked after and cherished well. Sadly, not every person has a good memory of his/her childhood. Most of the children are subjected to maltreatment of some or the other kind in their childhood. This leaves a permanent mark in their life. It is very difficult for them to move ahead in life once they are subjected to maltreatment. Not only are the children victims of maltreatment in rural areas but the incidences are on rise also in urban areas. Children are made to work, clean shoes, earn bread for the family in tender years of their life. The most pitiless and terrible form of maltreatment is sexual abuse

Urge for Ecological Sensitivity in Ancient India: Two Case Studies In Texts, Praxis And Performance

    No full text
After USEPA’s 2014 report declaring the United States, the European Union, the Russian Federation, China, Japan and India among the top carbon emitters of the world, global concerns over ecological sensitivity have increased. CO2 levels across the world, usually at a scale of average 280 ppm, have crossed an unprecedentedly crossed the mark of 420 ppm in recent year. One significant question at this crucial stage is – does mankind have any lessons from its past to equip itself for the problems of contemporary times?  The ancient Indian Vedic seers placed great importance on the relationship between man and nature, which is established through sacred incantations and expressed through rituals. This paper is premised on the central argument that folk-rituals across the races and peoples of diverse cultures in South-Asia reflect this ancient ecological sensitivity rooted in the collective consciousness of indigenous cultures.   To present its case, the paper takes up two case studies from India where ecological concerns are rooted in not only in ancient Indian texts (i.e. Vedas); they have also become a part of household rituals and performances. BhūmiSūktam (The Earth Hymn), a part of the Atharva Veda, is a collection of sixty-three verses, establishes a captivating portrayal of Mother Earth as the foundation of man’s existence and a representation of the entire environment. The second case consists of the kōlam household rice-flour drawings in South India as an offering to the earth goddess, Bhūdevi, not just as a prayer but also a metaphor for coexistence with nature. Thus, the paper concludes how these texts and the rituals related to them serve as a constant reminder of the necessity to maintain and promote the ecological equilibrium of natur

    No full text
Family is said to be the foundation of an individual and is an indispensable part of one’s life. Families include a bunch of relationships such as marital relationships and intergenerational relationships like parents, grandparents, and siblings. A positive and healthy sibling relationship in the family plays a vital role in elevating one’s overall well-being, self-esteem, and satisfaction with life. Earlier research on the outcome of sibling relationship quality has highlighted the significant part played by siblings throughout lives. Healthy sibling relationships help an individual to develop compassion in life and appropriately resolve conflicts.  For the present study, through a convenient sampling method, we enrolled a total of 120 adults in the age group of 18-55 years from Goa, India, having siblings. Further, we divided the sample as per sibling dyad, i.e. same-sex siblings (sister-sister or brother-brother) and opposite-sex siblings (sister-brother or brother-sister). The tools used for data collection included the lifespan sibling relationship scale (Riggio, 2000) and the Warwick- Edinburgh mental well-being scale (Scottish Executive National Programme, 2006). We used Karl Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation to study the relationship between the quality of sibling relationship and the psychological well-being and an independent sample t-test to examine significant differences as a function of sibling dyad in adults. Our results indicate a strong positive correlation between sibling relationship quality and psychological well-being in adults. We also observed significant differences in the quality of sibling relationship and psychological well-being as a function of sibling dyad

    No full text
Introduction: Precision anesthesia techniques play a pivotal role in optimizing outcomes for patients undergoing surgical repair of brachial plexus injuries. Utilizing tailored approaches, such as neuromuscular monitoring and selective drug infusions, enhances surgical conditions and postoperative recovery. Case Presentation: In this case, a 35-year-old male with a left global brachial plexus injury underwent surgical repair. Anesthesia induction included fentanyl, thiopentone, and succinylcholine, followed by intubation. Neuromuscular monitoring obviated the need for further muscle relaxants. Anesthesia maintenance utilized a combination of oxygen, nitrous oxide, isoflurane, dexmedetomidine (0.5 mcg/kg/hr), and propofol via a Target-Controlled Infusion (TCI) pump. The surgery lasted 5.5 hours with stable vital signs post-extubation. Discussion: The combination of dexmedetomidine and propofol allowed for precise control over anesthesia depth, ensuring hemodynamic stability and optimal surgical conditions. This tailored approach minimized adverse effects and provided effective analgesia without respiratory depression. Conclusion: Precision anesthesia techniques, including neuromuscular monitoring and dexmedetomidine-propofol infusions, optimize perioperative management in brachial plexus repair. These strategies enhance patient safety, surgical outcomes, and postoperative recovery, highlighting the importance of individualized anesthesia care in complex procedures

Sustainable agriculture is a type of agriculture that focuses on producing long-term crops and livestock while having minimal effects on the environment. This type of agriculture tries to find a good balance between the need for food production and the preservation of the ecological system within the environment. Sustainable agriculture is an approach to farming that prioritizes natural and renewable resources over synthetic inputs like fertilizers and pesticides. According to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization sustainable agriculture seeks to “meet the needs of present and future generations, while ensuring profitability, environmental health, and social and economic equity.” But because there’s little regulatory oversight for this practice, farms can call themselves “sustainable” without having to back it up
