Open access citation advantage
Rad donosi pregled literature o citatnoj prednosti znanstvenih radova objavljenih u otvorenom pristupu.
The paper reviews literature on open access citation advantage. Literature is categorized in three categories. The first category consists of papers that presenting results of citation analysis in different scientific fields. Those papers try to answer question – are open access articles more visible and more cited than those that are not in open access (Harna, Brodey etc.). The papers from the first category also discuss methodological concept for further research. In the second category are the articles that try to find what the reason for open access citation advantage is (Kennicutt, Schwartz, Kurtz etc.). Is it open access itself or there are some other reasons? In the third category are review articles and bibliographies that comment and compare results of previous analyses.
Reviewing articles published between 2001 and the beginning of 2013, the paper discusses open access citation advantage in various fields, with the accent on social sciences. The review can be useful to Croatian scientists, to their institutions and libraries as a basis for the implementation of open access model
Improved Parser for Simple Croatian Sentences
In this paper, authors will present the work that has been done to improve the existing syntactic parser. This work is a continuation of the work presented at the NooJ 2009 conference. We will show and explain the grammar for detecting nominal predicate in a simple sentence. The nominal predicate in Croatian language is made of the auxiliary verb ‘to be’ and an in Nominative case. The can be a complex made of a single noun and any number of adjectives, pronouns and numbers proceeding that noun and agreeing with it in number, gender and case, but also a single noun, a single pronoun, a single adjective or even an adverb. A problem of coordination of two or more nodes of different gender and its agreement with the main verb in the cases where coordination is a subject of a sentence will be discussed. The work will further enlight and discuss other important properties of Croatian sentence complexity. At the end of the paper, the results will be evaluated through precision, recall and f-measure to show the adequacy of the model
Izrada obiteljskih stabala uz pomoć NooJ-a
Croatian language uses separate terms for each member in a family tree. These terms may differ among different geographical parts of Croatia as well. We will use NooJ to build a family tree by using syntactic grammars applied to the Croatian obituaries. Obituaries in Croatia have a recognizable form with few alternations. Its structure can be divided into four main sections (notice about the death, name of the deceased, date and place of the funeral, grieving family). For this project, sections two and four are of special interest as they can be used to build a family tree of both living and deceased relatives of the deceased. The first task in the project is to recognize the deceased person since other relationships might differ depending of the gender of the deceased. Than a list of grieving family members, with or without their names (sometimes with a notation such as ‘the family of deceased brother/sister/…) is annotated, again, in some relationships differing on the gender of the name that follows the relationship type. Across Croatia, the same relationship is not always presented with a same term. For example, a nephew is presented with terms nećak, bratanac and sinovac depending on a region. So far, we were able to include all the variations in our grammars.
The relationships are provided in three different formats:
1. Singular relationship and a name of a person: brat Ivan i brat Nikola (brother Ivan and brother Nikola) which are annotated as ;
2. Plural relationship of the same gender and a list of names: braća Ivan, Petar i Nikola (brothers Ivan, Petar and Nikola) annotated also as singular relationships ;
3. Plural relationship including both genders and a list of names: djeca Nikola, Ana, Frano, Marija (children Nikola, Ana, Frano, Marija) annotated as , where each person is annotated as a or as a depending on the gender of the name and not as a group .
However, each of these cases can have some additional information such as: obitelj pokojnog brata Nikole (family of the deceased brother Nikola); brat Nikola s obitelji (brother Nikola with his family);kćer Marija sa suprugom i kćerkom (daughter Marija with her husband and her daughter). After the annotation process, an XML file is produced containing tags . From this file, a picture with drown relationships is generated using Python

Deriving Adjectives and Nouns from Numerals
The paper discusses formation of numeral nouns in Croatian language using NooJ morphological grammars. Description of this semantic group using productive morphology in NooJ is important in order to minimize the number of unnecessary entries to the dictionary, thus saving on space and time. Numeral nouns in Croatian language can be considered as a specific group of words since they possess a limited number of semantic roots (numeral part) and their endings are from the finite number of suffixes. Syntactically, they are used mostly in the same manner as nouns. We believe that detailed description of numeral nouns will increase both precision and recall in recognition of noun phrases and prepositional phrases . This will be demonstrated by reapplying the local grammars for recognition of and chunks to the corpus
Does equity in ways of showing love matter for marital satisfaction?
The aim of this study was to test the predictions derived from the equity theory, social exchange principle and research dealing with marital climate about the relationship between equity in the ways of showing love between partners and marital satisfaction. The sample
consisted of 302 Croatian married couples of different age (20-82 years) and from various urban/rural backgrounds. Marriage length varied between one month and 57 years. Along with asking about marital satisfaction, we administered The Ways of Showing Love Scale. Equity was assessed as a similarity between how much (in total
and in every of the six specific ways) an individual shows love to his/her partner and his/her perception of how his/her partner shows love to him/her. According to equity theory, individuals who show and perceive a similar amount of love, no matter whether this amount is big or small, should be more satisfied with their relationship. Individuals who are underbenefited should be less satisfied, while individuals who are overbenefited should be somewhere in the middle. Results did not confirm this hypothesis. We found that both men and women with
a high score on both showing and perceiving love are most satisfied with their marriage. Underbenefited and overbenefited individuals do not differ, and have somewhat lesser scores on marital satisfaction. Those with a low score on both showing and perceiving love are the
least satisfied. The results suggest the importance of positive socioemotional climate for marital satisfaction
