    Get PDF
Objectives: This study examines the degradation pathways of chiral pesticides in agricultural soils, with a focus on their stereoselective behavior and environmental fate. Specifically, it explores the degradation kinetics of the chiral herbicide profoxydim, evaluating how soil chemistry, microbial activity, and environmental conditions influence stereoisomer persistence. Additionally, the study assesses the impact of biochar amendments on pesticide degradation dynamics.   Theoretical Framework: The research builds upon established principles of pesticide fate and transport, integrating stereoselectivity as a key factor in environmental risk assessment. The role of biochar in modifying microbial degradation, adsorption capacity, and bioavailability is also considered within the broader context of sustainable soil management.   Method: Advanced analytical techniques, including QuEChERS (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe) extraction and HPLC-MS/MS (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with Tandem Mass Spectrometry), were employed to quantify stereoisomers and their degradation products. Comparative analyses were conducted on soil samples with and without biochar amendments to evaluate changes in degradation kinetics and stereoselective persistence.   Results and Discussion: Findings indicate that certain stereoisomers of profoxydim exhibit prolonged environmental persistence, leading to potential ecotoxicological concerns. Soil chemistry and microbial activity significantly influence degradation rates, with biochar demonstrating the ability to alter pesticide behavior by modifying microbial interactions and adsorption processes. The stereoselective nature of degradation underscores the need for refined risk assessment strategies that account for isomer-specific persistence.   Research Implications: This study highlights the necessity of incorporating stereoselective analysis in pesticide regulation and environmental risk assessments. The observed influence of biochar on pesticide degradation presents a potential strategy for mitigating the environmental risks associated with pesticide use.   Originality/Value: By integrating stereoselective degradation analysis with soil amendment strategies, this research advances current understanding of pesticide fate in agricultural soils. The findings offer a novel approach to improving pesticide management and promoting sustainable agricultural practices through targeted soil amendments

THE INFLUENCE OF TRUST ON CONSUMER ATTITUDES AND PURCHASE INTENTIONS REGARDING SECOND-HAND GOODS ON ONLINE PLATFORMS

    Get PDF
Introduction: This study explores the role of electronic trust and its influence on both the attitudes and behavioural intentions of consumers engaged in collaborative consumption practices. A quantitative survey was conducted among 149 individuals who are members of Facebook groups dedicated to the buying and selling of second-hand items. The findings reveal that two dimensions of trust, credibility, and integrity, have a significant positive effect on consumers’ attitudes and purchase intentions. In contrast, the dimension of benevolence does not exhibit any significant effect on either attitude or behavioural intention.   Objective: The objective of this study is to examine the role of electronic trust (e-trust) and its impact on consumers’ attitudes and behavioural intentions in the context of collaborative consumption, specifically within second-hand marketplaces on social media.   Theoretical Framework: This study is based on trust theory, focusing on three key dimensions of electronic trust: credibility, integrity, and benevolence. These elements are hypothesized to influence consumer attitudes and behavioural intentions in online collaborative consumption, particularly within second-hand marketplaces on social media.   Method: A quantitative research approach was employed, using a structured survey distributed to 149 participants who are active members of Facebook groups engaged in the buying and selling of second-hand goods.   Results and Discussion: The results indicate that the trust dimensions of credibility and integrity significantly and positively influence both consumer attitudes and behavioural intentions. However, benevolence does not show any significant effect on either construct. This suggests that in peer-to-peer online transactions, perceived reliability and honesty are more critical than emotional goodwill.   Research Implications: These findings have practical implications for platform designers and group administrators who aim to foster trustworthy environments. Highlighting credibility and integrity—through verified profiles, transparent communication, or user reviews—may enhance consumer engagement and purchasing behavior in online collaborative consumption platforms.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by examining electronic trust in informal online second-hand, an area that remains relatively unexplored. Its originality lies in the application of trust theory to collaborative consumption settings, focusing on how specific dimensions of trust—credibility, integrity, and benevolence—influence consumer behaviour. The findings provide practical value by identifying which trust factors most effectively encourage positive attitudes and purchase intentions, offering guidance for improving trust in peer-to-peer digital environments

Objective: This study sought to establish the relationship between stakeholder engagement practices and the performance of road infrastructure projects in Central Equatoria State, South Sudan.   Theoretical Framework: The key stakeholder engagement practices explored in this study included stakeholder identification and mapping, communication, feedback mechanisms, involvement in decision-making, and conflict resolution while project performance was evaluated in terms of schedule adherence, cost efficiency, and quality outcomes. This study will be anchored on three theories namely; stakeholder theory, resource dependency theory, and social exchange theory.   Method: The study adopted a descriptive research design where stratified random sampling techniques was used to collect data from 58 respondents drawn from various stakeholder categories, including project managers, engineers, contractors, government officials and community members. Data was collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Inferial statistics involved multiple regression analysis that assessed the relationships between stakeholder engagement practices and project performance.   Results and Discussion: The results indicated that communication and stakeholder identification had the strongest positive influence on project performance, while feedback mechanisms, decision-making involvement, and conflict resolution also contributed but to a lesser degree. Challenges such as resource limitations, diverse stakeholder interests, and inconsistent feedback collection processes were identified as barriers to effective engagement..   Research Implications: The study concluded that structured and inclusive stakeholder engagement strategies are essential for enhancing project outcomes. The study recommended the adoption of digital tools, regular stakeholder training, and culturally adaptive engagement practices.   Originality/Value: The study helps project managers to appreciate various dynamics of stakeholder engagement and project performance in resource-constrained and conflict-affected road infrastructure projects. Equally, policy makers benefit when designing and implementing policies that enhance stakeholder engagement for effective project outcomes. Therefore, future studies can refine and expand literature on stakeholder management and project performance

EVALUATION OF GALVANIC ANODES CAPACITY AS PER NACE TM0190-98 TEST METHOD

    Get PDF
Objective: To evaluate galvanic anodes used for cathodic protection system in accordance with the industry standards established by NACE in the testing method document NACE TM 0190. The primary objective of this project is to evaluate the effectiveness, performance, and lifespan of different galvanic anodes under various environmental conditions. This includes assessing factors such as material composition, anode design, and installation parameters to optimize cathodic protection strategies.   Theoretical Framework: The test was conducted by passing a fixed direct current through test cells electrically connected in series. Testing anode castings for quality and output is an essential part of the bulk anode manufacturing process. The testing should be carried out as part of the manufacturing process control regime. Part of the qualification process is to test samples of their anodes against 17-SAMSS006 requirements including expected life time. These anodes are rated for long term life and any substandard anodes will end up affecting the integrity and safety of company assets, people and environment in addition to the installation and operations interruptions   Method: NACE TM 0190.and other international standards or recommended practices are usually selected to draft technical specifications for cathodic protection of offshore engineering projects. These technical specifications cover similar criteria to ensure the quality of sacrificial anodes for Cathodic Protection such as technical requirements, inspection, chemical composition and electrochemical performance. However, each project has its own complexity and performance requirement, due to the different operating condition (environment) of the assets and the actual usage condition of the sacrificial anode. Therefore, the quality and performance parameters of the sacrificial anode need to be stated carefully and in detail, in the specification to cover all the potential risks involved in the project. At present, the design (service) life of offshore oil engineering equipment/structure is over 25 years, similar to the design life of sacrificial anodes (25 years). Therefore, ensuring the long-term performance of sacrificial anodes is an important factor to ensure the safety/integrity of offshore assets. The test was conducted by passing a fixed direct current through test cells electrically connected in series.   Results and Discussion: The results obtained the average efficiency calculated and measuring parameters like anode potential, current output, and effective lifespan through laboratory and field tests.   Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of evaluation galvanic anodes used for cathodic protection system and identification of the most durable and cost-effective galvanic anodes for specific applications are discussed   Originality/Value: Evaluating galvanic anodes is essential for developing reliable cathodic protection systems which are essential for preventing corrosion of metal structures such as pipelines, storage tanks, and offshore platforms, thereby extending the lifespan of infrastructure such as pipelines, storage tanks, and offshore structures. This study contributes to the experiment matrix introducing quality control requirements at the casting stage, such as: anode size, weight, appearance, internal defects, chemical composition, electrochemical capacity. However, in engineering practice, we often find that the actual performance of the sacrificial anode does not meet the project's expectations
