ANALYSIS OF MOTIVATION AND COMMUNICATION ASPECTS IN UNIVERSITIES THROUGH ISO 21001:2018 MANAGEMENT SYSTEM STANDARD AND TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the ISO 21001:2018 Educational Organizations Management System Standard through the lens of organizational communication and employee motivation. Specifically, it investigates how the standard influences communication structures within educational institutions and contributes to their overall success.
Theoretical Framework: Grounded in the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM), the research explores the integration of communication and motivation as core components of institutional quality. While ISO 21001:2018 is based on TQM—which seeks continuous improvement across all organizational processes—this study critiques the extent to which communication and motivation are recognized within the standard.
Method: A quantitative research design was employed. Data was collected through a structured survey conducted with employees of XXX University, which has implemented the ISO 21001:2018 standard. The survey aimed to capture employees’ perceptions of the standard's influence on internal communication and motivation.
Results and Discussion: Findings indicate that ISO 21001:2018 contributes to establishing a more systematic and process-oriented educational management system. However, its indirect influence on communication and lack of explicit emphasis on motivation present potential limitations. Although the standard enhances organizational structure, it overlooks key human-centered variables such as communication flow and staff motivation, which are critical to institutional success.
Research Implications: The study highlights the need to reconsider how management system standards like ISO 21001:2018 can more holistically integrate soft factors, including communication and motivation, into quality frameworks. Institutions may benefit from adopting complementary strategies or internal guidelines that emphasize these dimensions.
Originality/Value: This research offers a novel perspective by bridging the gap between quality management standards and organizational communication theory in educational settings. It contributes to the limited body of literature assessing ISO 21001:2018’s effectiveness beyond operational efficiency—focusing instead on the human dynamics that drive educational quality
THE EFFECT OF SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC, LABOUR, AND ORGANIZATIONAL FACTORS ON EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE, INTERNAL MARKETING, JOB SATISFACTION AND LIFE SATISFACTION OF PROFESSIONALS IN PORTUGAL
Purpose: The aim is to assess whether sociodemographic, labour, and organizational characteristics present differences in the average values of emotional intelligence, internal marketing, commitment, work determinants, performance, loyalty, job satisfaction and life satisfaction of employees’ active professionals in Portugal.
Theoretical Framework: Recent literature has reported that Emotional intelligence is a topic that arouses a lot of interest, especially in organizations, as it allows individuals to manage their own emotions and, in turn, a better understanding of the emotions of others, which provides more stable interpersonal relationships both with peers and with others hierarchical superiors. Thus, there is still much to investigate and learn about organizations with human resources equipped with emotional intelligence are therefore more likely to achieve the desired productivity and success and their employees, in turn, have more satisfaction performing the functions assigned to them.
Design/Methodology/Approach: We carried out an inferential quantitative analysis on a sample of professionals working in Portugal (n=1310), to find out whether their sociodemographic, professional, and organizational characteristics present differences in the average values of emotional intelligence, internal marketing, commitment, work determinants, performance, leadership, job satisfaction and life satisfaction of active professionals in Portugal.
Findings: The results obtained reveal that professionals working in Portugal are moderately satisfied and their average levels of satisfaction present most sociodemographic, professional, and organizational characteristics, for the dimensions of internal marketing, emotional intelligence, performance, loyalty, commitment, satisfaction with life and job satisfaction, statistically significant differences in the average values of their satisfaction.
Research, Practical & Social implications: At the organizational level, in the same way that an external customer needs positive experiences to be considered by the organization, a professional has to feel valued to perform their tasks successfully. Therefore, organizations must promote their internal marketing strategies by enhancing the recognition of their professionals.
Originality/Value: The study demonstrates that Portuguese organizations must also invest in the implementation and development of internal marketing, valuing and recognizing their professionals, in order to strengthen organizational sustainability

THE IMPACT OF PMO ACTIVITIES ON INDICATORS OF TIME AND SCOPE IN FINANCIAL ORGANIZATION
Objectives: The present work investigates the PMO's monitoring role on a financial organization's projects to identify the project office's impact on them. This study stresses the performance of the scope and time on the project portfolio.
Theoretical Framework: Project offices are structures that aim to improve organizational project management in a company. Theoretically, an organizational project office is adopted to get better project results and indicators and contribute to the company's strategic objectives. However, evidence regarding these results and their drivers is rare.
Method: This research used a case study method. It characterized the company, the PMO, and the projects implemented. Data from the project portfolio were analyzed, and interviews and direct and indirect observations were carried out.
Results and Discussion: Both qualitative and quantitative analyses complemented and corroborated the same result, affirming the positive impact of the PMO's presence in the projects since all data demonstrated considerably higher achievement on the planned scopes and time frames.
Research Implications: Despite being a primary responsibility for project managers, this study evidences that PMO implementation is associated with good scope and time results. As our study has focused on a financial institution, managers in these organizations may consider using a PMO to achieve project scope and time.
Originality/Value: Some scientific literature has stated that PMOs have good results on project performance, but they do not identify which performance area is achieved on these improvements. Other articles point to good results on cost performance but a weak impact on time and no impact on scope performance. The present research identifies an effective impact of supportive and controller PMOs on project scope, which can be better investigated in future research efforts
THE ROLE OF RELATIONSHIP MARKETING IN CONSUMER PURCHASE DECISION: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY
Objective: This study seeks to investigate the function of relationship marketing in consumer purchasing decisions.
Theoretical Framework: As a result of the significant changes witnessed in the last millennium at the global level in all spheres of life, perhaps the most prominent is the shift from the planned economy to the market economy, as well as the pressures of intense competition, the emergence of globalization, the information and technology revolution, the rise in levels of foreign investment, and the enormous increase in the number and types of products, services, and brands. It significantly influenced the decisions of consumers.
Method: Our study consists of a qualitative setting; thus, we have utilized the depth method, which helped us clarify the relation between consumer purchase decisions and relationship marketing from the perspective of both the consumer and the company, using semi-structured and unstructured interviews.
Results and Discussion: The results indicate that the foundation for achieving growth and sustainability in the markets is to attract the greatest number of customers possible, to strive for their satisfaction and gain loyalty, to work on establishing permanent partnership relationships with all customers, and to treat each customer as if it were its market division.
Research Implications: From a managerial application perspective, an understanding of consumers' expectations of their relationships with sellers would assist marketers in establishing, enhancing, and maintaining these relationships. Marketers need to identify how they can use customer data to improve customer relationships. Permission from customers can provide marketers with the privilege of contacting customers; information such as customer needs makes possible the customization of products and services; and data about the initiation and growth of customer relationships help to ensure effective and timely feedback. Marketers can informally survey their customers by asking about the relevance of various services, or they can formally survey their customers to gain more in-depth customer-specific information.
Originality/Value: The findings provide insight into consumers' motivations and attitudes with regard to relationship marketing and suggest a way forward for further research. In particular, a number of ways in which mobile phone companies might seek to encourage consumers to consider value-added service propositions more seriously and become less solely price-sensitive are proposed
