    Get PDF
This article aims to improve the understanding on how structural, relational, and cognitive dimensions of social capital influence innovation outcomes on interorganizational and intraorganizational networks. A meta-synthesis research design with eight selected qualitative case studies located in a European context were conducted. The patterns of causal relationships among the variables presented in the case studies were identified. The antecedents of social capital dimensions, the influence of the dimensions on reducing barrier or impediments for innovation and on the enhancement of enablers or facilitators of innovation outcomes, and the direct effects of social capital dimensions on innovation compose the resulting framework. Furthermore, differences between the influence of social capital dimensions on innovation and technology in interorganizational and intraorganizational setting in European companies were found. The meta-synthesis this research relies on another researcher’s insights and interpretation of data, being susceptible to their bias. Adopting qualitative case studies insights for getting to an analytical generalization reduces the deepness, richness, and contextual dependence of original authors’ findings. The findings could help organizations developing optimal conditions for the improvement of the likelihood of gathering innovation and technology and development outcomes from both interorganizational and intraorganizational networks. This article contributes for both innovation and technology development and social capital literature by proposing an integrated framework comprised of social capital antecedents and the role of social dimensions on reducing barriers or impediments, enhancing enablers or facilitators, and affecting innovation outcomes directly

Reward-based crowdfunding: a study of the entrepreneurs’ motivations when choosing the model as a venture capital alternative in Brazil

    Get PDF
The main purpose of this study is to understand why Technology-Based Companies (TBCs) resort to reward-based crowdfunding as a financing alternative in Brazil over other alternatives that are already consolidated. In order to answer this question, we conducted a multiple-case study with four TBCs operating in different sectors and a platform hosting this type of campaigns. We found evidence that TBCs choose reward-based crowdfunding as a funding model because they are still in early stages of development, because they are after funds to finance specific projects and for motivations that do not directly involve raising funds. The findings corroborate the motivations mentioned in the literature and add new items.

User Innovation as a Basis of Innovation Network Between Universities and Business

    Get PDF
The paper aims at building a conceptual framework on how user innovation concept may be employed for the idea of creating innovation network between universities and business. Such innovation network would serve different purposes that are currently qualified as barriers for innovation management in business organizations as lack of easy access to lead-user innovators; difficulties in building minimal viable products; problems in validating innovation in its pre-market phase, etc. On the other hand, such innovation network would also satisfy some identified problems in innovation management education like reducing the gap between theory and business; teaching students through real live projects, etc. The approach for designing the conceptual framework steps on the user innovation theory. A literature analysis on user innovation identifies the utility of utilizing users in innovation development. Based on these, a focus group with 15 innovation managers qualitatively validates whether the identified 26 user activities in innovation development from prior researches would be beneficial if students take the role of user innovators (educated user innovators). The conceptual framework is built as a result from the respondents’ answers by designing where students may participate in innovation development as user innovators and how beneficial it is expected to be that cooperation. The assessment aims also at define the best place where the proposed activities may take place within the innovation development process. The finding of the study may play the role of a roadmap for user utilization in innovation development

oai:ojs.periodicos.uninove.br:article/9779Entrepreneurship has become a fundamental theme in Latin America. In recent years, public and private institutions have invested in training entrepreneurs in order to contribute to economic growth, develop work and reduce poverty. In the presented research, it is compared the self-appraisal as innovators, of micro-entrepreneurs who have attended training during the last five years, with micro-entrepreneurs without training, and additionally, it is studied if the micro-entrepreneurs that self-perceive themselves as innovators are more prone to hiring workers and obtain higher profits. The methodology used is hypothesis testing with Chi2 statistic and descriptive statistics. The results exhibit that trained micro-entrepreneurs call themselves innovators in greater proportion and that this relationship is more relevant in some training topics, moreover, that innovative self-perception is linked to a greater intention of hiring and profits. The evidence obtained is considered relevant, since it allows orienting training activities in Latin American countries and improving the selection of topics and methodologies to promote their effectiveness

    Get PDF
There are several awards and models of quality and innovation applied around the world. The problem studied is that many organizations present different dimensions and scales for the evaluation of organizational innovation and analysis for the innovative recognition of companies. The article aims to present, through the exploratory and confirmatory factorial analysis, the main inducing factors of organizational innovation in a set of 19 Brazilian companies, from the public and private sectors, with nationally recognized performance. The research integrates the methodology of evaluation of awards, norms and models of innovation - APMNI. The research is characterized as mixed approach (qualitative and quantitative) through data collection with interviews and survey, submitted to content analysis and multivariate statistics. The results indicate that all factorial models (2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 factors) were consistent in light of the statistical analysis. The results indicate that all factorial models (2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 factors) were consistent with statistical analysis. It is concluded that the most adequate explanatory model was the one with four inducing innovation factors: PD&I Management Model; Top Management; Innovation Culture and Innovation Strategies

The study result showed that 3 factors: easiness & usefulness, e-mail interaction, and social presence have positive impacts on learning & transferring knowledge through the e-learning system of Bach Khoa University (BKU). Based on analysis results, some managerial implications are suggested for improving the effectiveness of e-learning system at BKU

Decision Making Support for Managers In Innovation Management: a PROMETHEE approach

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to present a decision making model as a support for selection of innovation management concept using multiple criteria decision-making methods. Defined innovation management concepts are evaluated using set of criteria, which priorities are expertly evaluated using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and then the PROMETHEE method is used for evaluating and selecting variants. Based on the specific nature of innovation management concepts a novel decision making model was conceived. The model was imported to the Visual PROMETHEE software tool. The model was applied on a medium sized manufacturing company. The innovation concepts were evaluated and ranked. For this company the concept of value analysis was selected as the best. This study is limited for decision-making processes in medium and large sized companies. The results of AHP are based on expert but subjective assessment and therefore relevant for this particular company at that particular time. In addition, it is shown that this approach can help managers to solve similar decision-making problems using combination of AHP and software Visual PROMETHEE. The logic and process of the decision making model elaboration as much as the decision model itself can be used as a framework for managers facing decision making problems with similar nature as innovation management concepts i.e.: ERP systems, information systems, technologies, business models
