    Adoption of 3D printing technology: an Innovation Diffusion Theory perspective

    While every new technology faces multiple challenges during market penetration, some technologies could be viewed by the adopters very differently than most others. The 3D Printing also called as Additive Manufacturing (AM), has been in the market for over a decade now, and is touted to be the next revolution in the industry. Technology has found wide applications in various industries, such as consumer electronics, automotive, medical devices, manufacturing and among many others. However, less is known with regards to the adoption and diffusion of 3D Printing technology, especially from the emerging economies. Using a survey method, this study aims to examine the adoption of 3D Printing technology in select industries in India. We found Relative Advantage, Ease of Use and Trialability to be significant. Whereas, Compatibility and Observability emerged as non-significant. We also explored the challenges with respect to 3D Printing Adoption. The knowledge of the major challenges along with the significant factors affecting adoption can help the manufacturers and suppliers of 3D Printing technology to focus on for increasing the rate of adoption

    Gender Effect on Cloud Computing Services Adoption by University Students: Case Study of Saudi Arabia

    Cloud computing is a state of the art technology that provides services to individuals and organizations on demand via the Internet. Implementation of cloud services in an organization will lead to improved performance and reduced cost related to computing services. A number of previous studies suggest that there is a need to further investigate the role of gender on the adoption of cloud computing, especially in developing countries. The aim of this paper is to investigate the role of gender in the adoption of cloud computing services by university students in KSA. To meet the research objective an SEM study was conducted using responses from 451 Saudi higher education students to determine the role of gender on could computing acceptance in KSA context. The findings of this research show that there is a settle difference between female and male students where trust was found to be a significant determinant of behavioural intention for female students but not for their male counterparts. On the other hand, image was found to be a significant determinant of PU for male students but not for female students

    SUSTAINABILITY OF KNOWLEDGE & TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER CENTER AT KHMELNITSKY NATIONAL UNIVERSITY (UKRAINE)

    The need of the search for new sources of funding due to the decrease in the level of state financing of higher education institutions of Ukraine testifies to the actuality and importance of the development of cooperation between academic institutions and industrial partners. The Knowledge & Technology Transfer Center (KTTC) was established at Khmelnitsky National University (KhNU) with the purpose of such cooperation. The main areas of activity of the KTTC are: organization of effective communication interface of the University; in-university consulting on implementation and commercialization of innovations; intellectual property management and research of the market requirements. The main target groups of the KTTC at KhNU are researchers, students and industrial partners.This paper highlights the ways of achieving sustainable development by the KTTC at KhNU. The tasks, which were solved to ensure sustainable development of the KTTC, are presented. Among these tasks, the main attention is paid to the analysis of the innovation branch, financial support of the KTTC and involvement of as many partners as possible in the activities of the KTTC

    REGIONAL INNOVATION SYSTEMS AND UNIVERSITY COMPETITIVENESS

    This paper is a literature review, presenting the concept of regional innovation systems (RIS) and identifying criteria and indicators for measurement of university competitiveness within these systems. A regional innovation system is defined as an interactive learning engagement among a network of various actors within an institutional framework. It is built around the core idea that innovation stems from interactions within a network of different actors. The development of RIS is fostered by the European Commission in its attempts to make Europe and the EU the world’s most competitive and dynamic economy by embracing the whole innovation chain from education to economic impact, popular as the “knowledge triangle” of education, research and innovation. Universities contribute to the creation and dissemination of new knowledge and the generation of intellectual capital. In such context, the two most frequently cited criteria used to measure the university competitiveness are knowledge transfer and regional engagement. Knowledge transfer is defined by industry income, patents, co-publications with industrial partners, and spin-offs, while regional engagement – by graduates working in the region, student internships in the region, regional joint publications and income from regional sources

    How Technology Intelligence is Applied In Different Contexts?

    Technology Intelligence is one of the many ways of applying Competitive Intelligence. As CI, TI intends to detect and process weak signals in order to identify opportunities and threats and provide actionable information. There is still a gap in reported cases of companies actually applying Technology Intelligence. This article intends to answer the research question: How companies build an actionable technology intelligence project? Case Study and Action-research approaches were applied for this research. The article describes two application cases: a research institute with a petrochemical industry as a client; and a private petrochemical industry. Companies seem to not know how to deal with Technology Intelligence. When outsourcing, they are more willing to pay for an extremely comprehensive project that not necessarily needs to be so deep and complex. When doing it internally, decision makers are not willing to wait and give the TI analysts resources to conduct a project in the right deepness and complexity. It seems like a “goldilocks problem” applied to Technology Intelligence

    Extração e disponibilização on line de indicadores de relacionados à responsabilidade social, popularização e prospecção dos resultados das pesquisas em nanotecnologia no Brasil

    Scriptlattes computational tool was used for extraction of performance indicators related to social responsibility, popularization and result prospection of research in nanotechnology in Brazil using as data source Plataforma Lattes and the CNPq Research Group Directory. Besides allowing for a quantitative evaluation of the bibliographic production on the matter, which used as base the number of published papers and book chapters, amongst other productions, the extractions have also allowed for the evaluation of indicators such as technological products, processes and techniques, related to the social responsibility in research, such as magazines and newspaper articles, linked to the popularization of Scientific results. Yet, the observation of indicators such as thesis and current research projects allowed the observation of prospective future results of current research in nanotechnology. Apart from the results related to the bibliographic productions, which can be found in several data basis, the tool makes available indicators in circular basis, which on turn, permit the prospect evaluation of future research results, as well as the evaluation of social responsibility and the popularization of research on the theme. The presented results may be replicated for any subject of interest, and may be used to guide future scientific research in the country.O presente trabalho utilizou a ferramenta computacional Scriptlattes para extração de indicadores de desempenho relacionados à responsabilidade social, popularização e prospecção dos resultados das pesquisas em nanotecnologia no Brasil, utilizando como fonte de dados a Plataforma Lattes e o Diretório de Grupos de Pesquisa do CNPq. Além de permitir avaliar quantitativamente a produção bibliográfica sobre o assunto, as extrações permitiram também avaliar indicadores como produtos tecnológicos, processos e técnicas, relacionados à responsabilidade social da pesquisa, assim como artigos em jornais de notícias e revistas, vinculados à popularização dos resultados da Ciência. Ainda, a observação de indicadores como dissertações, teses, supervisões de pós-doutorado e projetos de pesquisa em vigência, possibilitaram avaliar prospectivamente os futuros resultados das atuais pesquisas em nanotecnologia. Além dos resultados relacionados às produções bibliográficas, que podem ser encontrados em diversas bases de dados, a ferramenta disponibiliza indicadores disponíveis apenas em bases curriculares, que permitem avaliar prospectivamente os futuros resultados das pesquisas em andamento, além de avaliar a responsabilidade social e a popularização das pesquisas sobre o tema. Os resultados apresentados podem ser replicados para qualquer assunto de interesse, que por sua vez poderão ser utilizados para nortear o futuro da pesquisa científica no país

    Effects of economic clusters, FDI and R&D on Innovation: Developing Countries in European Monetary Union Example

    This study investigates the impact of clusters, FDI, R&D, and GDP per capita on innovation. Using a unique panel dataset obtained from eight developing countries with similar innovation levels that are in and out of economic clusters from 2001-2014. The empirical results show that dynamic (uncountable) effects of clusters are not statistically significant on innovation, but static effects (countable) are. Therefore, clusters are effective for developing countries on trade but not innovation directly that developing country should increase trade for innovation spillover by moderation effect of being in economic unions

    Measuring Non Monetary Innovation In Software: a case study in floss firms from Argentina

    This paper presents a critical review of the design of innovation surveys that follow the Oslo Manual standards, based on a series of case studies in Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) companies. The main objective of the paper is to contribute to identify the specificities of innovation in FLOSS firms that traditional innovation surveys usually omit, to improve current innovation measures and metrics in the software sector. We applied a qualitative analysis based on seven case studies in FLOSS firms from Argentina, mainly through semi-structured interviews to key informants. Such analysis was aimed to elucidate the nature and particularities of the innovation processes and outcomes in the firms, the characteristics of the collaboration with the community and its role in the business model and innovation strategy of the organizations

    Capacidade de Inovação do Cluster: uma pesquisa Sistemática

    Most studies on innovation capability analyze the firm level. Little efforts have been made to understand the interactions that take place in inter-organizational agglomerations and the capabilities that such arrangements retain. This study aims to develop a theoretical framework of cluster innovation capability. The academic production about innovation capability of clusters in the business field from 2005 to 2014 was analyzed and the databases consulted were: EBSCO, SCOPUS, and Web of Knowledge.311 items were cataloged, 144 were available in full text, and among those 18 papers were selected. The cluster innovation capability was structured based on a theoretical framework through qualitative content analysis. Thus, acquisition capability, diffusing capability, and knowledge management capability are the main capabilities that constitute the cluster innovation capability.A maioria dos estudos sobre capacidade de inovação analisamo nível da firma. Pouco se tem dedicado ao entendimentodas interações que ocorrem em arranjos interorganizacionais e quais capacidades tais arranjosdetêm. Sendo assim, o presente estudo objetiva analisar a produção acadêmica  sobre capacidade de inovação de clusters na área de negócios no período de 2005 a 2014. Para tanto, foram pesquisadas três bases de dados: EBSCO, SCOPUS e Webof Knowledge. Dos 311 artigos catalogados, 144 possuíam artigo completo disponível. Dentre estes, foram selecionado 18 artigos e através de análise qualitativa do conteúdo estruturou-se a capacidade de inovação do cluster e oframeworkteórico. Entendeu-se que existem três grandes capacidades que formam a capacidade de inovação de cluster, sendo elas: capacidade de aquisição, capacidade de difusão e capacidade de gestão do conhecimento

    Towards a new paradigm of “coopetitiveness” in emerging countries: Case of the Algerian Entrepreneurial Ecosystems

    The main aim of this paper is to propose thinking tracks of Entrepreneurial Ecosystems based on a “Quintuple Helix” approach that overcomes the competitive partitions by founding a paradigm of “coopetition” and “coopetitiveness” through the “intelligent specialization” with a strong societal and economic impact. Indeed, the dominant vision in most of emerging countries calls the relationship between Entrepreneurial Ecosystems and their actors, exclusively in terms of competitiveness aspects by reproducing identically the North-American models unlinked to the environmental dissimilarities, such as entrepreneurial culture. However, it is important to enquiring about the spatiotemporal adaptability of this model in the emerging countries contexts, particularly through its uninhibited relationship to the concepts of individual success and failure as well as the ecosystems running based mainly on private financing from business angels, crowdfunding and venture capital investors. While the creation of a startup is administratively facilitated, the uncertainties of the environment put its sustainability in a severe test. The causes are numerous, we cite among others, the difficulty of these startups to fit into a multidisciplinary working mode, hence the necessity to integrate them in the value chain of an ecosystem where they answer efficiently to mutualized and specific R&D needs. That's why we propose to identify the main barriers to open innovation as well as the catalysts enabling the creation of the integrative entrepreneurial ecosystems. By borrowing the paradigm of the city, we highlight the “urbanized” ecosystem made up of “useful” and “specialized” blocks, integrated in the value chain of this ecosystem. We will show the viability of the proposed tracks through many cases of economic, societal and academic actions undertaken in Algeria in order to setting up a favorable environment of integrative entrepreneurial ecosystems
