Workplace Communication: the use of African languages by banks operating in the Free State Province, South Africa
Workplace communication plays a pivotal role in addressing the issues of language of communication in the workplace, particularly in multilingual settings. Most scholars have contributed extensively to this field of research and their focus has primarily been on issues of communication in business and legal contexts, health and academia. This article proposes workplace communication as an effective approach that can be adopted by banks to incorporate the use of African languages as languages of communication and business. The issue of language of communication in the multilingual bank settings of the Free State Province is a central one in this article. The main argument of this article is that English continues to be the main language of communication and business, particularly pertaining to the written communication in banks, while African languages such as Sesotho, Setswana, isiZulu and isiXhosa are excluded. Qualitative research methods were employed in this article, and interviews and qualitative observations were conducted to collect data. The findings of this study suggest that most banks use English in meetings and legal documents such as loan contracts, while most banking customers are speakers of African languages such as Sesotho, Setswana, isiZulu and isiXhosa, particularly in the townships and rural areas where the majority of black people reside. Therefore, banks operating in the Free State Province do not promote multilingualism in the workplace; instead, they promote monolingualism
According to findings about the quality of primary school education in Burkina Faso as in Subsaharian countries, learning to read in the two first years of primary school constitutes a remarkable accomplishment. If we assume that acquiring learning mechanism is the result of systematic teaching/learning, there is evidence that teaching and learning skill are closely linked. The objective of this study is to shed light on the constraints that complicate the acquisition of reading during the first two years of primary school. The data used in this research come from inquiries conducted in the center and the north parts of Burkina Faso, in downtown and in rural zones. The inquiries were carried out in eleven schools as well as in the offices of decision-makers in the primary education system. The findings indicate that reading instruction during the first two years does not sufficiently take into the account the difficulties pupils encounter. It is important to look at reading difficulties that learners face through the lens of cognitive, linguistic, social and cultural factors that affect them. Doing so will help make reading instruction more effective right from the first years of school

Space and Narrativity in Menna\u27s Tomb Chapel (Theban Tomb 69)
Tackling the issue of „Space and narrativity in two-dimensional images of the Egyptian New Kingdom“, the tomb of Menna (Theban Tomb 69) will serve as an example. The tomb of Menna , who held offices in the administration of temple land and royal land, is situated in the non-royal necropolis of Sheikh Abd el-Qurna on the Theban West Bank. Based on architectural and stylistical criteria as well as prosopographical data, it has been dated to the reign of Amenhotep III. (ca. 1390–1353 B.C.).The decorated tomb chapel is the part of the monument that was open to visitors and where the rituals for the deceased were performed as opposed to the burial chambers which were not intended to be re-opened after the burial except for the burial of the spouse or children of the deceased. In most cases they are undecorated

La lingua dei Rom e dei Sinti
This article focuses on Romani old settlement varieties of Italy. Emphasising the complexity of the sociological, historical and ideological stratifications of the topic (chapter 1), in chapter 2 the authors present the shared understandings on the early phases of the historical development of the Romani Linguistic Community (RLC) and deal with its first attested appearences on the Italian soil, also pointing at some problems linked to the collection of reliable demographic and demolinguistic estimates; chapter 3 provides an overview of the principal Italian old settlement Romani dialects and proposes a description of these varieties, including some conservative and innovative features of their phonetic and phonological system, along with some morphological, syntactic and lexical characteristics; in chapters 4 and 5 the language policy measures planned by the Italian State for the preservation of linguistic minorities are examined, highlighting the serious difficulties that hinder the Italian RLC from being recognised as such, but finding some recent positive interventions of Regione Calabria and Regione Abruzzo which promote a change of pace on the recognition and fostering of the RLC in Italy
Die Förderung der Kollokationskompetenz mithilfe eines Kollokationsoptimums im DaF-Unterricht
Our study focuses on one of the most important areas of language education, the development of lexical competence, including collocations. When it comes to learning a foreign language, it is inevitable to encounter collocations and fixed phrases, as their use contributes to successful communication. The goal of our research is to compile a collocation optimum that can help in the teaching of collocations and in expanding the methodological tools that can be used in the development of collocation competence. Our collocation optimum is based on the analysis of six GFL textbook families (B1, B2). In the theoretical part of our study we want to emphasize the importance of teaching collocations and in the second part we would like to describe the steps of compiling the collocation optimum and the benefits of its application in the classroom
«There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs; one step can make all the difference.»
