A Regression model of traffic noise intensity in metropolitan city using artificial neural networks
The major contribution of the traffic noise, towards overall noise pollution scenario, is a well-known established fact. Traffic noise from roadways creates problems for surrounding areas, especially when there are high traffic volumes and high speeds. Vehicular traffic noise problem as contributed by various kinds of vehicles like heavy, medium trucks/buses, automobiles and two wheelers. Many western countries have developed different prediction models based on Leq and other characteristics. In India, the transportation sector is growing rapidly and number of vehicles on Indian roads is increasing at very fast rate. This has led to overcrowded roads and pollution. So, there is a need to develop a noise prediction model suitable for the Indian conditions. The present work discusses the fundamentals of acoustics and analysis of road traffic noise. A Regression based mathematical model is developed for a site at Mahatma Gandhi road (Ring road), Delhi. A large number of sets of data were recorded for 15 minutes’ duration at different dates/timings in a random manner in order to account for statistical temporal variations in traffic flow characteristics. The noise measurement parameter Leq is to be recorded. Sound level meter (Lutron SL -4030) was used for these measurements. In this mathematical model, this is used for predicting Leq level included Total vehicle volume/hr, Percentage of heavy vehicles and Average vehicle speed. The Noise levels Leq used in regression analysis for prediction. It was seen that value of R2 found to be within limits. The paired t-test was also carried out successfully for goodness-of-fitness
Performance of Chemical Vapor Deposited ZnO thin film as thermal interface material on optical properties of LED
Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) was used for the synthesis of ZnO thin film on Al substrates at various flow rates of O2 gas. ZnO thin film coated substrates were tested as thermal substrates on influencing the optical properties of high power LED at various operating currents. Spectrometer analysis showed that ZnO thin film prepared at 10 sccm O2 flow rate showed better performance by reducing the Color Correlated Temperature (CCT) at driving currents. CCT values were maintained with respect to driving currents by ZnO thin film interface at all driving currents than air interface (bare Al substrate). On luminous flux analysis, 5 sccm samples showed good performance on increasing the light of the give LED at all driving currents than bare Al boundary condition. The observed results were evidenced with help of particle size distribution analysis on all film surface using Nanoscope software. Overall, ZnO thin film deposited at low O2 flow rate would be an alternative to solid thin film interface material in electronic packaging applications
Robust Nonlinear Geometric Steering Tracker for an Autopilot Submarine
An Autopilot submarines is an Unmanned Underwater Vehicles(UUVs) that can perform controlled maneuvers and trajectory tracking dictated either by a pilot on ground or as a part of a preprogrammed mission. The extreme environment conditions of underwater and the resulting significant variation in the system parameters engenders a challenging control problems for these submarines. This paper presents the formulation and implementation of a robust nonlinear geometric yaw tracker for an autopilot submarine. The UUV carries its onboard Micro Elector-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) based Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) with data fusion algorithm. The yaw command reference tracking simulation is performed. The system performance is investigated under disturbances. Based on the simulation and the experimental results, this nonlinear geometric tracking approach proves to be a novel and effective technique for UUV Yaw control, disturbance rejection and robustness against parameter variations
Automatic extraction of domain specific hidden data for efficient response by search engine
As large amount of information is growing in web daily, lots of relevant data are available in the form of hypertext in web. Interested users can view publically index able pages of any web site and some information is hidden behind search forms and viewed after filling of the appropriate search interfaces. Lots of information is available behind the search interfaces known as hidden data. Right now unique web crawlers are utilizing distinctive methods for getting such profound data from the web and sent to the clients as per their problems. The purpose of fetching such deep information is to provide a large set of relevant response to the user according to their search query. In this paper a new technique suggested for automatic filling of search interfaces and then submits the form to the World Wide Web and collects the response in the form of web pages which will be send back after automatic submission of the form and then filter out relevant pages from these response pages according to the user specific query
A stable election protocol for clustering in power constrained wireless mesh networks
The Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a collection of Mesh Routers (MR) and Mesh Clients (MC) which are organized in a mesh topology. Each device is directly connected to other devices in the same network and constitute what is called mesh topology. Wireless Mesh Network is a dynamic and Infrastructure less network. Due to its dynamic nature, it has many constraints like CPU, Battery, Mobility and Bandwidth. To efficiently manage some of those constraints in wireless mesh network, we use clustering technique. Clustering makes the network fast, more efficient and reliable. We will use Stable Election Protocol for clustering and to select a cluster head on the basis of battery power, the battery power is defined by the user. Only the cluster heads are allowed to connect and communicate with other nodes, which significantly reduces the extra computation on nodes in connection

Experimental Investigation on the Effect of Using Different Types of Engine Coolant in an I.C. Engine
A cooling curve test was done to demonstrate the effect of using different types of coolant in an I.C. Engine. The types of coolant used are: 1.Water 2.Ethylene glycol based coolants 3.Glycerol based coolants. Coolant concentration of 50% in both ethylene glycol and glycerol were examined. The experiment was conducted in a vertical Ruston diesel engine. The main parameters of the experiment were brake thermal efficiency and specific fuel consumption. Coolant outlet temperature was varied, while the engine speed was kept constant. The flow rate required to achieve a particular temperature for ethylene glycol based coolants and glycerol based coolants have been determined and compared with the flow rate of water
Smart cushion system for wheelchair
Pressure ulcers or Decubitus Ulcers are a very common existing problem in case of patients with SCI or who are completely disabled. Many kind of pressure relieving cushion systems have been developed but even the diversity of existing cushions used and reported, pressure over the bony prominences still continue to be a major problem for wheelchair-bound and bed-ridden patients. This paper introduces a novel automated pressure shifting system in order to prevent pressure ulcer or decubitus ulcers. The system consists of pressure sensor, embedded microcontroller system (PIC16F877a) and an actuation system. The work combines two systems together that is an electronic system consisting of microcontroller and a mechanical system consisting of actuation unit thereby making a complete automated system which works for shifting the accumulated pressure and distributing it throughout the region and thus preventing development of pressure ulcers. The placement of sensors in the cushion will be in such a manner that inflation and deflation of the actuators will take place when required as per the pre adjusted threshold value with the help of microcontroller. It has the potential to improve the prevention of pressure ulcer and enable the user to achieve an optimal status for his or her most satisfactory comfort while using the proposed device. The proposed system is entirely based on automated pressure shifting mechanism and helping the completely disabled patients who are in frequent need of a wheelchair or a bed for changing their positions frequently and thereby preventing decubitus ulcers due to prolonged usage of cushions for their lifetime
Face Biometric Cloud Authentication Access Using Extreme Learning Class Specific Linear Discriminant Regression Classification Method
The Extreme Learning Class Specific Linear Discriminant Regression Classification used in this proposed system aims at improving the accuracy and recognition rate of the face biometric identification for secured cloud access. The accuracy is improved by maximizing and minimizing the reconstruction error. The between class reconstruction error (BCRE) and within-class reconstruction error (WCRE) are the two values simultaneously increased and decreased for every sample to provide improved accuracy. By selecting the suitable value of WCRE, the learned projection matrix for the discriminant subspace is identified. The class specific representation is implemented for the label created in feature vector to further improve the efficiency of identifying a face. Based on the classification results given by the proposed EL-CSLDRC method, an efficient access of secured data from the big data cloud system is promoted
The Effect of Extractive Industries on the Economy of Sierra Leone: A Literature Review
Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is a policy launched by an international organization, aiming to improve the living standard in countries where resources such as oil, gas, gold and other minerals can be found abundantly. In a way to avoid poor management and corruption, EITI, was initiated to promote transparency in the exploration of these natural resources. This calls for a great need of transparency in the management of the country’s resources. In a way to avoid poor management and corruption, better manage its natural resources, Sierra Leone endorsed the EITI in 2006.Revenues from the extractive industries should be an important source of economic growth and social development in developing countries. To this, an attempt is made to analyze the root causes of lack of cultural accountability, transparency, mismanagement, and poor public service delivery in the extractive industry as it affects the economy of Sierra Leone. This paper is an overview of reports to study the effect of the extractives industries on the economy of Sierra Leone since it endorsement to the EITI policy and also examines some of the main challenges and policies associated with Extractive Industries in Sierra Leone
