A Life-on-life: l’umanesimo di fronte alle sfide dell’intelligenza artificiale
Life-on-life describes a profound transformation that is deeply restructuring human postures, categories and ways of being-in-the-world of the staggering biped we are. In the first text inaugurating the Human&Future Task Force's editorial series, Artificial Intelligence takes centre stage, in a loop in which Sapiens will either emerge as a co-protagonist actor or as a passive entity less and less able to maintain its prerogative as a syntagmatic actor on our planet. Thanks to a solid trans-disciplinary approach, the risks and opportunities, the radical transformations and new ways of being favoured by the Digital Revolution and the increasingly widespread presence of artificial entities endowed with broad functional autonomy, will be the subject of a close analysis in which heterogeneous academic figures will dialogue to try and shed light on the Phenomenon of our time from which no one can escapePublishedLife-on-life inaugura un percorso editoriale concepito per accompagnare, potenziare e integrare le attività della Task Force Human&Future dell’Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II.
Social Law 4.0: Update
Platform work continues to grow. This is also true in European countries; where it poses challenges for access to social security systems and their financing. The book “Social 4.0”; published in 2021; examines these challenges and presents innovative solutions in different countries and in European cooperation. Four years on; in which the practical difficulties have become even more apparent; the “Update” asks whether the solutions have worked and what further developments have taken place. Short reports from Belgium; Italy; the United Kingdom; France; Sweden and the Netherlands answer these questions. They are complemented by insights into EU social and tax law. In a detailed concluding chapter; the findings of both books are systematically summarised; evaluated comparatively and guidelines for future legislative responses are presented
Where Love Happens
Some decades ago, Jean-Luc Nancy asked, ‘Has not everything been said on the subject of love? … Could we perhaps be exhausted?’ The question is a pertinent one; why devote yet another book to the subject? Grounding love in the realm of the concrete by querying, where does love happen?, the essays address hitherto under-researched aspects and aesthetics of love, like the love of the child, same-sex love, love of country, love for machines, controversial relationships, love of the dead, love of the past, and networks of relationships revolving around love and intimacy. Here, leading scholars suggest that changing social practices, developed in the course of the long nineteenth century, determined new spaces and places for love to happen, to unfold, develop – and break up. Thereby, the much-debated claim that romantic love is an invention of European Romanticism is challenged, asking if romantic love might not be less and other kinds of love far more romantic than at first imagined
Hofkunst im Zeichen des Humanismus
The court of Duke Louis IX of Bavaria-Landshut (reigned 1450-1479) was one of the most influential and dazzling courts of its time. Not least because of the Landshut wedding in 1475, it is still known today. Against the backdrop of humanist discourses, this book analyses selected architecture and works of art that were created at the court of Louis IX and in his circle. The focus of the analysis is on the transfer of these discourses and their artistic realisation. Using the example of the three core themes of humanism – the discovery of the individual, landscape, and history – it is shown how humanist discourses travelled from the university towns of northern Italy to Landshut through so-called learned councils and were reflected in art there.
Advanced Manufacturing and Precision Machining
Advanced manufacturing is a core technological domain critical for modern industrial transformation and enhancing global competitiveness. By deeply integrating traditional manufacturing with technologies such as electronic information, computer science, materials engineering, and intelligent control, it significantly improves manufacturing precision, efficiency, and sustainability. Precision machining, as an essential part of this field, provides key technical support for high-tech industries such as aerospace, medical devices, and semiconductors, including the production of high-performance components such as gears, bearings, and screws. With advancements in precision machining technology, production is not only more refined but also significantly enhanced in terms of efficiency and product quality. This Special Issue, “Advanced Manufacturing and Precision Machining,” consists of ten peer-reviewed papers and explores the latest developments in the field of precision machining, with a focus on balancing high precision and high efficiency in complex manufacturing environments. As intelligent and digital technologies continue to advance, the future of advanced manufacturing will be more efficient, intelligent, and green. Interdisciplinary innovation and technological integration play an increasingly important role in driving progress. This Special Issue can provide crucial theoretical support and practical guidance for researchers and industry professionals
The Great Powers and the Survival of the Liberal International Order
This scholarly monograph examines the sustainability of the Liberal International Order (LIO) by critically examining the conduct of the Permanent Five (P5) members of the United Nations Security Council: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. As principal custodians of global peace and security under the Charter of the United Nations, the P5’s alignment, or misalignment, with the foundational principles of the LIO holds profound implications for its legitimacy and endurance. Anchored in foreign policy analysis (FPA) and enriched by scenario-building methodologies, the research offers a rigorous, empirically grounded assessment of how Great Power behaviour shapes the evolution and potential futures of international order. By foregrounding the foreign policies of the P5 as key variables in global governance trajectories, the book provides an original contribution to scholarship on international relations, multilateralism and institutional resilience. This work will appeal to scholars of international relations, global governance, peace and security studies, and those invested in the normative and structural futures of the international system in the 21st century and beyond

The Future of the Occupation of the Palestinian Territories after Gaza
This open access book outlines four scenarios for the future of Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories as a broad canvas on which the interests, roles and perspectives of the key stakeholders involved in occupation are subsequently painted. An indirect result of 58 years of Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories, the Hamas attack on Israel of 7 October 2023 and the ensuing Israeli military campaign have greatly worsened Palestinian security in the short term, and Israeli security in the long term. Durable prospects for achieving reconciliation and peace are now shrouded in uncertainty, as political forces and views on both sides are likely to polarize and radicalize even further. October 7 and its aftermath have also introduced new uncertainties about the future nature of Israeli annexation and the modalities as well as extent of Palestinian resistance. Old frames have lost much of their validity, such as the Oslo agreements or even the logic underpinning security cooperation between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli military. The book aims to improve our understanding of the post-October 7 context of occupation and the initiatives required to end it in the future. Ultimately, the book’s intention is to shake up complacent policies and debates about the occupation of the Palestinian Territories by providing a more realistic basis for both reflection and action. While short-form analysis (e.g. blogs, essays and briefs) of October 7 and the ensuing events have proliferated, there has been little to no comprehensive analysis of the significance of these events for the future of occupation. Using the method of scenario planning to develop an analytical baseline, the added value of this book is that it offers a multi-dimensional consideration of this question both through the range of stakeholders it covers and the variety of its authors with respect to their research focus and perspective
