Chapter 9 Corporate Office, Corporate Irresponsibility and the Constitutive Vicariousness of Corporate Power
This book elaborates and interrogates the idea of evil corporations from a diverse range of disciplines. There has long been awareness of systemic harms inflicted by corporations, but this awareness has rarely led to any effective legal means to prevent and/or respond adequately to them. Lawyers and legal theorists appear to be stuck asking the same questions, and giving the same ineffective answers. Part of the problem, this book maintains, is the relative lack of theoretical interrogation into the nature of corporations as responsible, moral agents. To break this stasis, this book draws upon philosophies of wickedness in order to ask whether or not corporations are, or can be, evil. With contributions from a range of different disciplines, including law, cultural theory, theology, and philosophy, it offers a novel account of how and why corporate wrongs are caused, whilst exploring the extent to which the legal system itself facilitates such wrongdoing. The book targets a broad international audience with research interests in corporate crime. This will be of particular interest to those within the legal discipline, including corporate law, criminal law, corporate crime and law and humanities scholars
The Samaritan Pentateuch
This new translation into English seeks to introduce the reader to the character of the Samaritan version of the Pentateuch, while emphasising the fundamental differences between it and the Masoretic version. The translation is based on a grammatical analysis of each and every word in the text according to its oral pronunciation, informed by examination of the Samaritan translations into Aramaic and Arabic as well as other Samaritan and non-Samaritan sources. One of the most ancient and important Samaritan manuscripts of the Pentateuch, MS Nablus 6, copied in 1204 CE, serves to represent the Samaritan version. The English translation is placed in the left-hand column of each page, while the Samaritan original is displayed in the right-hand column. For the reader’s convenience, differences between the Samaritan and Masoretic versions are marked in red. In addition to translating the Hebrew text and highlighting the differences between it and the Masoretic text, each difference is explained in a brief note in an apparatus at the bottom of the page. Where expansion is appropriate, the reader is referred to extended notes at the end of the edition

Romanian Management Theory and Practice
This open access book provides the current research on the features of Romanian management theory and practices. It explores Romania’s position in the global supply chain; Romanian firm’s contributions to the new global economy; and the processes and effect of internationalization and digitization on the Romanian economy. Romanian management practices, similar with other Eastern European nations, has a unique development. In the late 19th and early 20th century, they were an integral part of western management thinking. However, with the forced adoption of a communist political system and the nationalization of the Romanian economy, the managerial systems were recalibrated to replace profit maximizing objectives with social objectives yielding mixed results. Since the revolution of 1989 and the integration into NATO and the European Union, Romanian management systems are once again an integral part of the global economy. As the COVID-19 crisis revealed the limitations of globalization and the overreliance on Asian suppliers, Romania, along with the rest of Eastern Europe will continue to be integrated into the global economy and become a dependable alternative to Asian suppliers. Why We Worry
Something must have changed in society. We weren’t always this worried. Not always caught up in disastrous scenarios in our minds. What is this nagging voice in our head? Why won’t it stop, and why are we so fixated on it? In Why We Worry, Roland Paulsen paints a broad picture of the cultural variations and historical evolution of anxiety. Through this lens, he invites readers to explore the paradox of how material wealth has enriched our lives in every aspect except one: our mental well-being. This book offers empirically grounded insights into the sociological underpinnings of issues relating to worry. As such, it is suitable for undergraduate students in psychology, sociology, and medicine – and anyone who has ever been trapped in rumination
