    Forschende Haltung von Lehramtsstudierenden

    No full text

Informal Learning of English at University

    No full text
With English increasingly moving out of the classroom and into informal settings, studies on informal second language learning (ISLL) have supplied evidence on how prolonged exposure to informal L2 input can enhance advanced receptive and productive skills in L2 learners. This book explores how Italian university students spontaneously access English, drawing on a survey to analyze their exposure to various types of informal input and motivations for engaging with the language. A longitudinal study further observed four participants' L2 spoken production over time, assessing complexity, accuracy and fluency (CAF) trajectories in relation to frequency, intensity and type of exposure. Findings reveal shifting access patterns among younger generations, highlighting the role of informal L2 input in shaping new acquisitional profiles. Frequent exposure to English is no longer exclusive to language specialists or advanced L2 speakers. Moreover, the longitudinal case studies show strong variability across participants and within individual L2 development, influenced by individual differences and specific elements such as immersion and registe

    We are a farming class'

    No full text
Notions of an arcadian farming life permeate settler-Australian understandings of themselves and their nation. Qualities of hard work, perseverance, resourcefulness, and a steady devotion to family and community—the historian John Hirst's Pioneer Legend—are idealised in this nation. But the people from whom the legend is derived have rarely been studied in depth. They are more the stuff of myth and fond imagining than of concerted examination. To what extent is the legend built on lived experience? How have farming people thought of themselves and their contribution to a wider national mythos? 'We are a farming class’ examines the lives of people in the farmlands surrounding Dubbo in the New South Wales central west between the 1870s and the 1950s, from free selection and the establishment of agriculture to the dawning of postwar prosperity and change. What emerges is a closely documented, ethnographically rich portrait of a way of life and culture at once distinctive and surprising, recognisable and unknown

    Nijmegen & Slavernij

    No full text
Nijmegen was the most important city in the most important province of the Dutch Republic. Although located far inland, the city was closely connected to cities from which ships of the trading companies departed to trade in spices, sugar and people. Which Nijmegen city administrators profited from slavery? How did mayors use their power to support slavery? How was slavery discussed in Nijmegen? And did colonial interest groups influence policy? This book sheds new light on the involvement of Nijmegen city administrators in colonial slavery from the end of the sixteenth century until 1873

    Go West!

    No full text
The “West” is a central concept in public discourse, but its meaning is often unclear and open to manifold interpretations and ascriptions of belonging and exclusion: Who is part of the “West”? When and where is it located? Who are the mediators of the “West”? This book aims to stimulate a critical reflection on ideas of the “West” in the history of education by gathering scholars from various fields of historical research

    Retroreflex Ellipsometry for Nonplanar Surfaces

    No full text
Retroreflex ellipsometry addresses the geometric restrictions of conventional ellipsometry by using a retroreflective sheet, which returns the light beam from the sample on the same beam path. Simulation and experiments of retroreflex ellipsometry in two- and three-phase systems have been demonstrated based on the proposed concepts, which have shown the capabilities of ellipsometric measurements on nonplanar surfaces

    No full text
Since the early 2010s, the concept of Nature-based Solutions has been integrated into land development projects to reconcile environmental issues with societal needs. But the concept still raises many questions. How can we preserve our environment while supporting socio-economic development? How can we adapt to climate change without sacrificing a certain level of comfort? The preservation or restoration of biodiversity is a prerequisite for the implementation of any initiative, whether it concerns natural risk mitigation, water supply security, economic and social development, food security, human health, or mitigation and adaptation to climate change. The author details the application of the Nature-based Solutions concept to these six major societal challenges, sharing initiatives as diverse as restoring wetlands to reduce flooding, reopening natural lands to control fires, installing vegetated swales to limit soil sealing and urban heat island effect, and diversifying crops to limit pesticides while preserving their economic profitability. This book is aimed at decision-makers in charge of land planning. It will also be of interest to companies, researchers, teachers and students wishing better understanding this conciliatory approach involving a plurality of actors

Youth Voice and Participatory Arts in Global Development

    No full text
Youth Voice and Participatory Arts in Global Development looks at how arts-based methods can promote youth voice and engagement in global development. This book argues that engaging young people’s diverse voices, ideas and knowledges in matters that affect them is vital in enabling young people to become – and be recognised as – active citizens, developing more inclusive societies and ensuring that development programmes remain accountable to the young people they aim to benefit. We draw on youth-led participatory research projects from across Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America, which used a range of art forms and engagement mechanisms, including participatory filmmaking, street art and the intersection of formal and non-formal education. Through this process, we develop the conceptualisation of transrational voice for epistemic justice and demonstrate the unique role that arts-based methods play in enabling this broad conceptualisation of voice that accounts for the multiple dimensions of young people's knowledges and experiences. This book will be of interest to researchers within international development, arts and youth studies, as well as to development practitioners, and anyone interested in promoting epistemic justice with and for young people

Learning and educational processes of people with Alzheimer's dementia have not yet been empirically investigated from an educational science perspective. Do learning and educational processes take place under the conditions of incipient Alzheimer's dementia and, if so, how are they organised? With the help of biographical narrative analysis, Nora Berner empirically traces the suffering, learning and educational processes of people with Alzheimer's dementia in order to understand the intertwining of illness and lifestyle. Shifts in the meaning of the learning arrangement process with the disease, efforts to maintain education and dealing with dwindling abilities are revealed

Corporate lawyers are increasingly becoming potential sources of information in combating white-collar crime. This study explores the inherent conflicts between the disclosure of privileged information to address corporate misconduct and the fundamental principles of legal confidentiality and professional independence. Therefore, the study analyses the ongoing debates and regulatory approaches regarding the role of lawyers in corporate governance, with a particular focus on the United States.
